Looking at Conti dribling in the beginning of the video, he reminds me of the pizzaman. No disrespect to Bruno of course…

Actually his playing style is a lot like DPs with all the turns and ball control and shooting from outside the box.. Except Bruno is better.. I wonder if Vucinic can fill that Bruno Conti role and we can give Super Mario the Monella role.

    Stop wondering, ‘Shar.

Bru’ was voted into Italia’s all time 11. Mirko should be looking to fill DANIELE Conti’s role LOL!

He is not there but on the 10 dvd Roma historia from last year each disk includes a bandiera from that collection. One is on Giannini as well. If I knew how to put it I would.

Have there been any rumors of Roma sniffing into the Palladino Juve situation? He’s definitely going to be on the hunt for a new team and especially since Juve are going to look to fortify their strike force over the summer. I think this is a player that has been far underrated especially since he has shown his versatility out on the wings this season, his vision and ball control would weigh well for Roma’s style of play. Although I did hear rumors that he might be going to Palermo for Amauri and some sum.

    Thanks for the video.

Please nobody compare Pizzaman or Vucinic to a living legend like Bruno Conti. And even if the will themselves become legends one day (why not hope?)they are totally different players. I would say Conti is much closer to Maradona than Pizzaman to Conti.

A great video of Giannini will be very appreciated. In my opinion Bruno Conti & Giuseppe Giannini have been the only Roma players (of the last 20 years at least) that were able to express their best football in the National team, with Conti leading Italy to a world cup win in 82 and Giannini leading Italy to a semifinal in 1990 that Italy lost only after he was taken off the pitch.

Giannini has been so unlucky in his career, he could have won much more, he also concluded his career in a very sad way, you may remember the farewell party spoiled by some stupid ultras.

    aba_bab,

I can’t find any good references now, I ‘ll keep looking.
His farewell to professional football took place in the stadio olimpico in May or June 2000. The game was Italy 90 vs all time Roma and he was supposed to play one half with each team. During half time a bunch of ultras invaded the pitch to protest against Roma management and the Sensis, also frustrated by the shocking recent unbelievable Lazio merda scudetto (it was fixed we all know, significant financial interests in the year of the Jubileum). As a result of the pitch invasion the goals were damaged and the game could not continue. The party ended there with Giannini back on the pitch in tears, escorted by Bruno Conti e Francesco Totti. That moment was surreal and by far the worst moment as a Roma fan (i.e. Lazio winning the scudetto, Roma not doing well, Giannini ending his career in tears).

But I look forward to the VOTD from Chris to relive some great moments Il Principe gave us.

BTW I clearly remember during a game from Euro 1988 (Yes I’m old), the great Italy coach Azeglio Vicini caught by the RAI cameras trying to get Giannini’s attention, shouting loudly “Principeeee, Principeee!!!”.

When a great coach calls you Prince, thats how good you are.

I said it before on this blog and I’ll say it again: Bruno Conti is the greatest Romanista of all time! He is a living legend. He is why I became a Roma fan as a young boy. I wish there had been better video footage back in that day because I haven’t seen a compilation of him yet that even comes close to doing him justice. He was a combination of Maradona skills and Zidane’s playmaking all wrapped into one package with an enormous heart that bled giallo and rosso. Pure class! Grandissimo Bruno Conti, aka Mara-Zico!!!

True, this: when I am asked on questionaire or forms what is my religious leanings, I check “other” and put Bruno Conti in the allowed space.

As for Chico’s tale, yes it’s the Adio for Giannini. It was a riot and hectic and damaging, much like Bepe’s leaving of Roma … we all know the end was the rigore v Lazi …

See it all, in gross and glory, below:
