Video of the Day: Napoli Highlights

By: chris | March 9th, 2008

Since 99.9999% of people were unable to watch Roma ride Simone Perrotta’s beard to victory, here are the highlights to tease your Giallorosso-tinged appetites. An improperly proper review of some sorts at some point which is not this moment.

If we want to spend money on a full back we should get Vargas. We already have 3 RBs. Mathieu, Gomez, and some central defender (preferably not called Lucio).. That’s my wish list for the summer.

Zambro is good but I think we should focus more on younger players. We have some great young talent- DDR and Aquilani are among the best midfielders in the world and surely the staple of the Italian National team in a few years. Mexes is a rock, Doni is great and is young, and I dare you to find someone who can hold up the ball better than the 24 year old Vucinic

But we also have a fair share of older people who will need to be replaced. Panucchi isn’t going to play forever, and I feel we could use an out and out striker similar to Toni. But again, I think he’s too old to invest in. I’d go for an Italian like Giuseppe Rossi or Quags

Its why i think huntelaar is the best option. he’s clinical, he’s hungry to score and he’s a good header of the ball. he’d be the perfect finisher.

drop totti back to trequartista position and let huntelaar take his spot

Zambrotta=Milanista and he’s 99.9% going there. He already said no to Roma after Calciopoli and he’s a northern snob. The best in the world for me, but a jerk.

I like Vargas and wouldn’t complain. As long as we don’t also get Richarlyson, those 2 together and it’s a reality show in the makings. Under Spalletti’s tutelage Vargas would really grow from a defensive standpoint. Shame Marcelo never came. He looked fantastic for Madrid yesterday. We were so close there. Also linked heavily with Carletto Thiago who is an uber talent in Brazil and everyone wants him. He would be my #1 choice at LB. His talent level is off the meter. Brutality and grace at the same time.

CB … Spalletti loves fellow Tuscan Barzagli if you don’t want Lucio. (cue a rain of insults at Barzagli I’m sure).

Watching Gomez highlights yesterday I thought to myself his transfer fee will eventually be Shevaesque, which is not promising for us. Speed, power, he looks like Ivan Drago built by the German government in some labratory. Simply frightening.

I rate Barnetta highly but do we really need him? I would love to have him on the squad but he/Perrotta/Giuly would not play much.

As for Barzagli (or any other Palermo player) it’s completely out of the question.. They want Aquilani or Vucinic.. Nothing else. We gotta be stubborn on these 2 players and they will be just as stubborn.

I don’t know Barnetta other than the penalty at world cup. I only read about link to Roma in January. He plays CAM and RW then I assume.

Thiago looks a lot like iTunes in terms of playing style. He’ll cost a pretty penny because Real Madrid are interested in him also and they have a few Brazilians themselves. Not bad though. The comparisons to Roberto Carlos are very promising because we’ll have another star on the team.

Aquilani’s pass to Totti at the end of first half was MAGIC!
Glad to see him on Totti’s back after il capitano scored.

Oh, and Vuci’s shoes look sooo Roma when paired with that sock :D

(According to goal.com) crouch seems to be on the outs with Lpool… maybe it’s just me, but I think he’d dominate with Roma :p

I don’t know, if we get Carletto Thiago, we’ll have one aging left back and 2 (1, if iTunes is loaned) extremely young fullbacks. I doubt Thiago would be ready to start for Roma, especially seeing as foreign fullbacks need to work long and hard on their defense before being Serie A-ready (*cough*Cicinho*cough*).

What would be perfect is to get someone young, but talented, and physically strong - and free - like Mathieu, who could tag-team with Tonetto this year while iTunes gets some experience. Then for the next several years we’d have him and Mathieu at left-back.

Personally, I don’t like Peter Crouch, not only as a person, but as a player. His scoreline is 19 goals in 79 games. For the striker position, I would love Mario Gomez, or Giuseppe Rossi, though Rossi would be less of an out-and-out striker.

But for next year, my ideal mercato scenario:

    Mathieu - free

    Cerci - free

Rosina - 13-17 million euros plus (if need be) the loans or co-owns of some Roma players, like Brighi, Alvarez, etc.

    Pelle’ - 3-5 million euros

An experienced central defender, not unlike Lucio - 7 million euros

This way, we’d have an even stronger attacking 4, with Rosina as the future (and sometimes present) Perrotta, as well as being able to fill in as a CM, Cerci to replace (more than adequately) Esposito, and Pelle’, who I think will be great, to sub in if Totti and Vucinic are out, or to come in the game in last-minute plays like corner kicks and such, where his heading ability could determine the outcome of the game.

Sorry, for Mathieu I meant to add experienced, meaning he knows European football but is still young.

as far as defense is concerned i think someone like domenico criscito would fit your team well. rosina is talented but is wasteful, if only you could get your hands on sebastian giovinco. the striker role you need is someone like borriello, he’s easier to get hands on than amauri and it seems like he is finally blooming otherwise rafaelle palladino is looking for some gametime and a juventus exit looks imminent.

    haha oompa loompa brigade?

He’s very skilled with his feet, tall, fast, just hasn’t been given the oppotunity to play as a striker he’s been relegated to winger all season, didn’t even play today.

Please go to the IOnter board once a week and post to our good friends over there.

That blog makes me want to puke in my buddies oatmeal bowl and watch him eat it. Thinking it’s oatmeal…

    Kidding..

    But yeah… INTER DI MERDA

I think we should stop going over to the Inter blog posting comments about wrongs calls by refs. Humility dont look their strong point, not that it is ours but at least we can admit when we suck or even when we win we can credit the other team that played well…

Anyway I congratulated them on their anniversary as this seemed to be the right thing to do (sometimes it is hard to do what is right but still I value good manners)

So let’s stop trafficking their blog and rise above this petty situation that is going on around Inter in Serie A sometimes. Let’s discuss Roma! … although

I actually thought Crouch could give us another dimension in attack, however his scoring rate in the prem isn’t all that high. For England it’s good because they haven’t played anyone good in forever.
