Buona prestazione ragazzi.
Was an excellent match, but im a little worried still for the euro.. sometimes italy does good in a friendly match(would like to rember that before the euro 04 italy played against portugal as well winning over portugal 2-1), but than at the euro did very very bad..
Anyway i think that quagliarella is the future of the national team, and i would like to see boriello playing again against spain as well..and how about acquilani?
Donadoni should consier for the team also cassano, and why not palermo’s amauri?

Marco…I’m for Roma and I’d still start Gattuso over Aquilani for the Azzurri. Sure, he’s not the most skillful, but he clamps down on opposing sides best players and nearly always wins the 50/50 ball. I think DeRossi, Aquilani and Pirlo is a great offensive midfield, but leaves us a bit vulnerable on defense. Plus, Aquilani is just back injury and clearly below form at the moment. Maybe that will change by summer.

Nice to see our Romanisto Superrota with the assist!!

If Donadoni plays the 3 Milan midfield Italia are doomed. There is a reason Milan have suffered this season offensively and it is not because they’re strikers went bone dry at San Siro or the defense is old and Dida is pants. They’ve been run over in the middle of the park all season.
DDR and Aquilani bring a physical dimension that is dynamic and athletic that Ambro and Gattuso simply do not posess. Gattuso has been dire all year, Ambro not much better.

have to agree with marco about gattuso and matrix, i’d rather see a much more skillful team on the pitch and play to the azzurri strengths, i’m still excited thinking about a pirlo, de rossi, aquilani midfield. anyway, i hear buffon might not be ready for the euros, my preferred (but unlikely) team would be
amelia
zambrotta, barzagli, cannavaro, pasqual
pirlo, ddr, king alberto
fab quags, cassano
toni
and the bench would still be awesomePosted from

I found a full highlight reel and put it on my site.
Pirlo’s called-back goal was friggin’ sweet. Such presence on the ball. When he gets it within the 18, the defense should just duck and cover.

De Rossi, Aquilani, Montolivo, and Nocerino may someday play crucial roles in Azzurri midfield… not that soon though, maybe in South Africa 2010. Nowadays, Milan trio (hey, I am not a Milanista) of Pirlo – Gattuso – Ambrosini seems fine…. Remember guys, these trio have played together for quiet a long time including top level matches such as Champions League final and World Cup Club final.

Clearly I’m no expert but I’d maybe try something like:
–buffon–
—grosso–,–matz–, –canna, –zambrotta–
—- gatts —
— pirlo DDR —
quags cassano
Toni1. Matz over barzagli? If Matz is healthy, yes. He always plays big in the biggest matches. And anyone who has watched Barzagli’s Palermo this year knows there have been matches where they would have conceded 8 goals if it wasn’t for the heroics of Fontana.
2. Grosso over Oddo? Definitely. As he showed at the WC and at times when he was healthy during qualifying, Grosso is at his best in the national blues. Oddo’s crosses for milan have been limper than a dude with erecticle disfunction this year. He’s a liablity.
3.Gatts over Aquilani? I explained above. I think you do our opponents a favor by sitting an intimidating, ball-winning scrapper like Gattuso, despite Aquilani’s superior skill. That’s my two cents.

ah…the spacing fucked my formation but you get the idea, I hope…

I’d play the same formation as McItalian stated but with Gatusso and De Rossi in DMF positions and Pirlo in a more advanced role (a la Superotta.. love that nickname), and Quags/Di Natale/Iaquinta/Cassano/Rosina, etc… on either flank.
