Video of the Day: Andreolli!

By: chris | January 31st, 2008

I no longer wonder why this kid is called the next Alessandro Nesta. Even just because they could make a highlight reel for a 20 year old defender from a whole 4 games (yes, four, count em). Bit of a ways to go, but kid’s got some talent.

And Marco has just been loaned out to Vicenza, where he’ll attempt to stave off relegation to Serie C1 for the club which has 17 points. So would any physicians in the house please get on the next flight to Veneto ASAP.

Yeah Chris,I heard they’re rather expensive, along with those Barusso and Esposito and Pit jerseys…..but hey! I’ve been told there are still enough Totti ones with number 200 on the back :D

Maybe they can just scratch a “Martinez” or “Defendi” off from last year’s kit and slap on some new letters at a discount.

How many Brazilian defenders does one team need? I suppose you’d like to see this:

    ————-Doni———–
    ——Mexes-Juan-Lucio—–
    Cicinho————–Tonetto

Nothing against Brazilian defenders or anything, but ewww.

    ewww?

    ewww?

    EWW?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    Did I read that right?

I want MORE Brazilians. Certainly Roma must have a contingent in every side. That’s the way. You could argue that 4 of our best ever top 8 players were ‘Brasiliano’ …. the IMMORTAL Falcao, Aldair, Cafu and Cerezo who is still on radio every week talking about Roma … Da Costa, Zago … amongst others, it’s called HISTORIA.

Roma always want Brazilians, it’s part of the fabric of the club. Which is why the tifosi are championing our current gruppo, another cycle with Juan, Cicinho, Doni, Mancio et al.

It’s not a coincidence. We went after the LWB from Dortmund also, his name escapes me. Cracking player, him.

The club target Brazilians, specifically, and for good reason. Roma are a hugely followed club there.

Gimme Lucio, for sure. I’ll take Julio Baptista and Wagner Love also, if you’re offering. Romario still fit? We could use a finisher.

    “Mas Que Nada …”

And now I will go to You Tube and watch the selecao airport 98 nike advert 45 times in a row.

Christopher, I suggest you do the same.

Brazil, the Kings of Latin America. Italia, the Gods of Europe. Doesn’t get any better for me.

Mind you, I was in Brazil a few months ago for a torrid bachelor “week” and when I wore my Totti kit to the Botofogo match people were yelling “Tottinho” at me and trying to slap me 5.

Sorry I got so worked up! I think I broke a sweat now.

Yeah, Roma are looking more Brazilian-esque than they have ever been, add to that the likely arrival of Lucio…

Len, I’d rather support a starting 11 straight from the streets of Rome, than a team full of foreigners. But that’s just me. We often mock Inter for being anti-Italian or Argentinian, but if Roma would become the Selecao Romano, then we are no better.

No. You’re off base. We are far better. Our whole team is Italiano, Romano.

Inter should not be allowed to compete in this league.

The running joke, why Grosso was sold: they had already filled their 1 player Italian quota with Matrix.

I was asked three days ago if I was named president of FIFA what 1 rule would I install and I said, to the shock of the 15 or so at the table, “I would make Serie A an all Italian league with the exception that every team was allowed to field 5 Brazilians in their team sheets of 18 every match.”

    Preaching to the converted …

    Lads,
As long as we have a good mix of both I am fine with that. Roma will always have Italians through their youth system. That’s why they play such beautiful football.

Of course, the question in Italian football has always been: What is an Italian? Is it someone who was born in Italy? Did they have to live there too? For how long? Do their parents have to be Italian? What does that mean? And what does it matter if you are Italian in the world of the EU? It is a puzzle that the Lega Calcio has been trying to work out since its inception. Many of the so-called foreign players on Italian teams hold Italian passports - therefore they are Italian, just born somewhere else. And with the EU, I dont think other EU players can legally be banned from playing. I think we are all just going to have to get used to the global world of Calcio.

Do you guys think Andreolli is the real deal? Like in a year or two he can come off the bench and dominate? Or start in a 3 man D?
