Video of the Day Poll (aka Gettin’ Fancy)
By: chris | March 13th, 2008So I’m sitting here tonight trying to write up a post on the big man targets of the week Roma seems to be pulling at from all angles, but it’s not going well. Most of these guys I’ve remarked on once, twice, three, forty nine thousand times. I got to Mario Gomez and decided that he’s the best thing to happen to German football since Rudi Voller’s moustachio, but beyond that original content is hanging outside the window making funny faces at me. I started watching clips of Klaas Jan Huntelaar on YouTube but I just wound up trading two hours of my life for a nice big spot of drool on one of my favorite shirts. I tried to contemplate the impact of Amauri, but I couldn’t get past wondering what the hell kind of product does he use in his hair and whether or not, if you get too close, it actually bites back at you. I saw Alberto Gilardino’s name on the list and all I can think about is that 9.7 he pulled off at Celtic and whether or not maybe he should consider joining up the Italian Olympic swim team for the summer, because by then Silvio and Uncle Fester will surely have a 13 year old Brazilian who is the humanized love child of Optimus Prime and My Little Pony ready to replace him (best children money can buy - just like Jacko).
So instead? I’m leaving it up to you. You guys get to hear my schpiels all the time on this stuff. Now I’ll just put up the best YouTuber videos I can find, and you guys decide who Roma gets. And then Rosella will go out and buy them because I tell her to.
(And if anyone questions the financial particulars, this is what Champions League money buys you…)
Mario Gomez (Stuttgart)
I would swap Daniele Prade’s testicle in a minute for this kid.
So here’s a stat:
Games: 24
Goals: 23
It’s March. He’s 22. And just this last weekend, he scored a hattrick. (At leastWould’ve had a fourth but got hacked down from behind as he was coasting in. Unreal.
Price? Contract til 2012? €20m absolute minimum.
Nothin’ fancy, just straight out goal scoring ad nauseam. Kid’s as real a deal as it gets. (Some of this isn’t him, but the internet is pretty devoid of Mario Gomez compilations. Tragic.)
And for the ladies.
Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Ajax)
There will be more on him later (soon, in fact, if you’ve bee reading up on your Roma News), but for now just watch. I’ll proclaim my guilt at not following Ajax heavily this year or last, so it was complete news to me that KJH is the Dutch answer to Fab Quags. Knew he was good, didn’t know he scored those goals.
Price? €20m+
Amauri (Palermo)
A very real possibility even with Zampa at the helm. If he and The Totti have that sort of a kinship……tis possible, given Francesco’s obvious impact on the market. Salary might require some finagling, but it’s certainly workable.
Price? €25m (Firm, according to the nutbag himself.)
Alberto Gilardino (Milan)
So here’s a thought, what if Gila dropped the Alberto, went with simply the one name, and then added an h to make it Gilardinho. Yeah? You know it would work. Not only would it change his whole self-perception, but Silvio could never sell a Brazilian. The guy would be Milanista for life.
Why these players don’t hire me to advise them is well beyond my grasp.
Anywho, I don’t want him. Everybody here knows what he brings to the table. But he needs to go learn at the School of Prandelli again and reclaim some of that Gialloblu magic.
Price? €10-15m
(Had to dig deep for this one.)
And this is quite simply the reason the internet was invented:
* - Big next two days, prepare yourselves.

When did Gila score against France?

To all you saying Gila is a major talent…do you watch any calcio? He whines and complains when the ball is not put perfectly on his foot so he doesn’t have to move, meanwhile he misses at least 3 chances a game. He doesn’t have a left foot, he’s not quick, he can’t dribble past anyone, his shot is not anything great…Sure he might have had predatory instincts at one time but not anymore. He gets a ton of service from Pirlo, Kaka, Seedorf… hell even Pato passes him the ball when they play together. He’s another Ventola. A guy who is touted but just isn’t really that good.
So my question is to all the ppl who say he’s a major talent…in what area?

Gilardino isn’t even in the same category as the other three. He can’t get a start over the geriatric offsides machine. Him being Italian shouldn’t blind us from the fact he sucks. Ancelotti’s imcompetence….wow. He can’t do anything in the league because it’s a marathon, and his team is old as dirt and lacks a forward that’s worth a damn.
I worry about Huntelaar because he is so 1 dimensional. He can’t create ANYTHING, but he does put the ball in the net. Luca Toni can put the ball on the ground and take it past people, Huntelaar can’t. Amauri or Gomez would be preferrable even though I doubt we land any of them.

Gila scored against France in France in the game the Azzuri lost 3-1 in the beginning of Euro qualifying. That ball was spoon fed to him by Pirlo.

Road to the “Offside Cup” Update:
Played Real Madrid today at the Olympico in my second group phase match. The score? 2-1 Roma of course (Could it have ended any other way?)
Played with the same formation and squad as the last game and absolutely dominated. Mirko scored on a beautiful curling shot into the upper corner from just outside the 18 in the 9th minute. DDR followed that up with a nice 1v1 move around Casillas on a beautiful through ball from Jesus. RvN brought the Merengues back to life with a goal in stoppage time of the first half, but the rest of the game was utter Roman dominance. Hit the woodwork a number of times and outshot him 12-2.
With that round, Roma has clinched a birth in the knockout round.

Add Drogba to the list.. Seems Totti is having one of his strike partner fantasies again. The last one was RvN. At least now we are capable of splashing the cash on a big striker. As much as I love Drogba, I would prefer a younger player.

I would go for Huntelaar first because he has more skill and is can help in the build up. He reminds me of a young Marco van basten, not that he’s that good there’s only one Marco, but Huntelaar or Gomez would be a big step to us winning the league and champions league next year

Eric > what is the last team you’ll play in the group stages? and what other teams are involved?!
and congratulations!

If we can’t pay Mancini what he wants, what makes you guys think we can pay any of these guys what they want?

This is certainly a decisive period for roma we either can keep out main players n blow our cap away (aqualani is not renewing for a 800,000 contract, ddr needs a large raise on his renewal, vucinis is gonna be expensive to buy out, mancini’s renewal is gonna be expensive…and another striker for 20million??????
Chris you prob would have the best guess does roma have the finances to do this??
it almost makes me thing were in dream land tryin to secure a 20+ mill forward when we have serious concerns of retaining important members of our team now

Gomez and Amauri would be my choices. But if Roma can really buy drogba , buy him fast Roma would be amazing and kill Man utd.

With Roma advancing in the champions league we are going to make some bank… Def. would like to see us Secure all of the Aqui’s De Rossi’s Vuci’s and Mancini… And then we should try to sign gomez because there isnt as much competition for him and huntleear

defenetly Mario Gomez! the kid is amazing and is an all round player, HUntelaar is not as complete as him but he would be a good option… but if we do not get Gomez then I would say we go for Gilardino just because of his Serie A experience, maybe we should even buy them both! jaja

Hi Gabs,
The last group game will be against Hamburg and then I will play the second place team in Group H which looks like it will either be Sevilla or Villareal. Thanks for the support.

Well. We should be able to raise our cap really soon. We are not in a bad financial state anymore.
Resign De Rossi and Aquilani asap! Sell Mancini for lots of money(Way to inconsistant) and buy a winger + Gomez.

- Gomez - wrong name (remember the last gomez in a Roma shirt? must have played two games - disaster)
- Huntelaar - to nordic for Roma, too expensive too
- Amauri - wrong hair/wig and too expensive
- Gilardino - wrong feet - however could be good at 5-7 millionsPosted from

Chico,so just because of the name Mario Gomez wouldn’t earn a chance in Roma? Ridicolous!
I’d say Gomez. Then Gila and then Huntelaar. I really love Huntelaar, man’s a beast but Dutch defenders aren’t like the Italian. Teams like NAC,Gronigen,De Graafschap,Vitesse….can’t compare them to Fiorentina,Sampdoria or even Siena. Gomez has scored 3 times against a team like Stuttgart and has already experience in a big league and Europe.
And Gila of course he knows Serie A and somehow I still think he has a lot of goals in his feet and together with Totti,De Rossi and Spalletti he could return to his old Parma form. Either way,we need aPosted from

YOUNG player,between 20-27. No older.

I say either Gila or Gomez. I like Gila because hes italian of course, but he does have the talent hidden behind him, and I REALLY feel that TGIP can bring it out, sort of like how he revived Perrotta’s career. And Gomez is amazing, such great talent and him and Totti just makes my mouth water. Hes a better Cassano.

Jonas
I just want to clarify my comments were kind of sarcastic. However I also feel we could spend 20 millions somewhere else, e.g. vice-Taddei, vice-Perrotta, vice-Tonetto.

Soumi, it’s still there, but it’s confusing at the the moment. CSKA is hiding his contract status like it’s a recipe for a nuclear bomb.
nick, Champions League money fixes many things. It’s that simple.
Plus, they’ll probably unload a couple guys (Espo for one), and will at least have some scratch coming back.

id go with Gomez or Gila.Gomez needs no explanation while i believe Spalletti can take Gila back to his Parma days.
KJH wouldve been a gud choice but his price is 2 high plus with Van Basten as new coach it wud be tough to get him.
Amauri is gud but 2 pricey

With all due respect anyone who rates Huntelaar — Holland not even 1 of the 10 best leagues in Europe and I’d score gols for Ajax — over a pedigreed striker with Gila’s scoring CV at Parma in what is still the best and most difficult league is simply smoking hash.

Super Mario scored a hat-trick against one of the best centerback pairings in the world on saturday, and forced a red card from Mertesacker at the death.
He’s a pure center forward, something Roma simply does not have. It would make the lineup look something like this

Mancini-Totti-TaddeiPosted from

Well tuna, it’s not that we can’t pay Mancini, it’s that we don’t want to. I wouldn’t want to pay a guy who shows up once in a blue moon to play top money either. Especially when his substitute is playing like a man on fire. Mancini is complete garbage, he doesn’t give two shits, and if we’re going to have a diver on our team we might as well make it someone who can consistently offer something to the squad. Take Mancini out of that starting lineup and put in Vucinic. Oh, and add 20-25 million to our transfer budget especially if real madrid is interested because for some reason, the rest of europe has a hard on for a guy who will never again do anything like he did against Lyon.
