Yeah, way to go.
I think Aquilani goes. He’s been getting calls regardless of PT. Real Madrid was probably enough to convince Donadoni. Spal? That’s another question.

Luca Toni is just totally unbelievable. I remember when Lippi called him up the first time I was thinking.. “Who the fuck is Toni? Just got promoted from Serie B and he’s being called to the national team? Lippi better know what he’s doing.” But when I first saw him play.. WOW!!! I’m torn between who I want to see the most at Roma.. It’s a 3 way tie between Toni, Gomez and Essien.

IaquintaWhere’s the spot for Del Piero? 7 forwards? He might be in form, but he doesn’t fit into the team, and that’s before we discuss tactics.
For me, Iaquinta has to go. His versatility fits so well with the tactics and he’s shown an ability to have a serious impact off the bench this year. He fits into the team much better than ADP.

i was really into the Euros azzuri selection of strikers with ADP, Cassano and Pippo. It will be ADP (deserved based on league form irrespective of history), Cassano will not go (DD will not take tht risk, Lippi might have), Pippo should go but dont know about the no of spots. What I’m more worried abt is how the defence and mid-f will do. Buffon is the guy u know will show up big at the tourney. But really not that confident abt Matterazi and Canna at the back. Canna does well for the azzuri even when not-so-good in league, but hope tht holds. I think Materazzi is not in the top class of defenders anymore (if he ever was), and tht worries me. Pirlo is another Canna, and hopefully will do better with azzuri than with Milan this season. His FKs and corners have been quite woeful.

Yes, I agree on Matrix. Materazzi never was as good as he showed these last 15 months or so, he just happened to be in otherworldly form, the time of his life.
Iaquinta’s ability to chase, press and savagely administer violence and danger on the opponent off the ball will see him go to the euros. Whom else do we have with his characterstics?
If Aquilani doesn’t go I will have a tough time watching. The country just doesn’t have anyone like him in midfield, of that speed and athletic ability and eye for goal. To be fair, I’d start he and DDR with Pirlo, a new look Azzurri. I’ve seen the “Milan 3″ in action this year. They create fuck-all, and they’ve been run over all season. Derby was a rare case yesterday.

BTW, I refer to WC and the following 12 months, then the beginning of this campaign. He’s been awful for much of this season: see Del tearing him like a lion does an antelope carcass at San Siro recently.

just wanted to get back to the dessena/cigarini chat, how bout a trade with pizarro for cigarini, in my books cigarini is a classier, younger version, who is less likely to induce heart-attacks than pizaman. although, with the form daniele gallopa was in for siena we might not need any more cm’s.

Camoranesi is a midfielder.. There is no way Del Piero is not going.. And I’m not Del Piero’s biggest fan but he really deserves to go.. Even if he is on the bench and comes on as a sub. I don’t think they should start him though.

The 4-2-3-1 formation isn’t bad, but I think Italy is better off with a more tradition 4-4-2.
My thoughts on Borriello- Being capocannoniere is enough to get you into the national setup, but not a tournament. It’s a shame that he wasn’t picked earlier this year, but we just have no idea how he’ll do for Italy.
Iaquinta I’d love to go cause we don’t have any attacante di peso like Toni, but given his playing time this season I don’t see Donadoni calling him up. I also hope he doesn’t leave Juve after this season, because next season he’ll have a lot more opportunity to play.

unless there is a major reshuffle at the club, I have very low hopes of a GK being a high priority for the management. i think they’ll focus on other positions, and we will see doni starting next yr. i definitely do not want to see tht, but unfortunately in a way, doni sometimes puts in performances which give people who are looking for a reason to keep him. and then he flops in big games like UCL.
