I don’t want Cassano now, but I don’t think it would have hurt us to have paid him what he wanted at that point. The fact he lost it a bit wasn’t news for us, but he never gave up (something we could use in certain instances) and wore his emotions on his sleeve. He was the second coming at that point, and he wouldn’t have spiraled like he did when we didn’t pay him if we had paid him. I will repeat that I don’t want him now though.

On a separate note, I have an unhealthy man crush on Ben Arfa now. His skill and explosion could be quite useful for us.

I’d trust Cassano on the team like I’d trust Mutu to safeguard a bag of Bogota Fun Dip.

Sure, Totti went nuts at Livorno last season, but two public sobbing meltdowns in a two month period is exactly what we don’t need. Especially the one with the jersey where he started crying in the tunnel entrance because he realized what he’d done.

It’s obvious by the massive group hug in the community today that we’re all looking to find solace in mercato, whether it’s the Barca fire sale, or wooing Huntelaar with the promise of scooters and clingy t-shirts with glittery English words on them. Or yes, entertaining a man who has a term for “fuck-up” coined for him.

I’m still hanging onto the narrow fantacalcio idea that we can intercept Zambro and buy both an awesome striker and a great midfielder if the Sensis sell to the best bidder. In the meantime, I hope Zambro can help cock block Rooney, Tevez, and CRonaldo on Wednesday. My blood pressure depends on it.

Maybe there are some out there who still think that Cassano could and should have found a long-term home at one club, and that club is Roma. Maybe he would be back if he was wanted, but will he ever be welcome again in rome? To think of the future he can have and that he is only 25 is still mind-boggling.

Totti is legendary, but he is not bigger than the team as nobody is bigger than a club. We’ll be alright no matter what happens. The irony is that the only guy who can play Totti’s spot like Totti can is the guy that Roma wouldn’t pay when he wanted it and the guy that most Roma fans condemn, Cassano.

The Totti injury at this time of the season is a disaster. But just to see the positive that may come out of this– the management needs to officially start planning for the post-Totti era, however painful it is for everyone. From next season, Roma should be prepared to think of having Totti on the field as a huge bonus, not the necessary element to play well as a team. It may be better for him too to if roma are not so dependent on him, so he never feels rushed to play even when he is not 100%.
