Panucci: We Are Not Ready For The Scudetto
Christian Panucci believes that Roma still need another three to four years to grow before they are ready to win the Scudetto.

The 34-year-old was the hero for the second Saturday evening on the trot, as his 90th minute header earned Roma a priceless 1-0 win at Genoa.

The result means that the Giallorossi move up to second place in Serie A and remain just three points behind leaders Inter.

Many in Italy believe that Luciano Spalletti’s men are Inter’s most realistic challengers for the title this year, however Panucci is more cautious.

“I am realistic and this project at Roma requires another three to four years before we can expect the Scudetto,” said the defender.

“I have honoured this shirt for seven years and I want to continue to do so. To see the Giallorossi fans rejoice over a Scudetto win is something I have not experienced yet and I dream to still be here when it happens.”

Panucci joined Roma in 2001, just months after the team had won their first Scudetto in 18 years. His previous clubs include Genoa, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Inter, Chelsea and Monaco.

He has also played 51 times for Italy, scoring three goals, the most famous being the last-gasp header against Scotland 10 days ago which took the Azzurri to Euro 2008.
