What KaPaRo? All Hail VuMuTo!
By: vin | July 22nd, 2008
Dude. Adrian Mutu.
Before we get carried away with dreams of a MutuVuci partnership in front, punching holes in stripe-wearing defenses left and right courtesy of hot, fresh, perfectly-baked service from the feet of The Totti, let’s take stock of the facts things that are most likely true:
- On the morning of July 21, Fiorentina’s sports director Corvino met with Prade.
- Corvino admits that Roma has expressed a “desire to take the player,” who is currently “dissatisfied.”
- There has been, of course, an official bid; the price Roma will would pay for the Romanian is probably somewhere between 18 and 20 million euros.
- Mutu was missing in action for part, but not all of the team’s meeting at San Piero a Sieve on July 22; he returned near the end to a mix of whistles and cheers from Viola supporters, who he greeted.
OK. Screw it. Now, let’s get carried away:
- Friggin’ Wikipedia says he’s already an AS Roma player. (Anybody can edit Wikipedia, but as Pat astutely pointed out in the comments section of the last post, there was a similar assertion about Vuci before news of the official signing was released.)
- Now, check this out. (Thanks to “Joker” [We know who you really are.] for that one!)
- If I’m Wild Luciano (Nice find, Boricua!), I’m playing Il Capitano as trequartista behind Vucinic and Mutu. That’s it. What say you?
Other (comparatively unimportant) Stuff…
- First Most ancient things first: Call The History Channel. Milan may be trying to construct a defense older than Hadrian’s Wall. If this is true, surely, someone on their staff knows that it’s completely laughable. In case you’re just tuning in, we at The Roma Offside Blog have dubbed this hypothetical defense “The Grey Line.”
- Baptista’s agent has ruled out a loan, as everybody knows by now. There’s worse news for Beast fans, though: Tottenham are also after him.
- Malooooouuuuuda. (Say it loudly. Then admit that it sounds like a tugboat horn.) Rumor has it there’s a chance of a loan. Hear that, Beast? I guess SOME guys are willing to do that. A loan sounds fine by me, considering he’d supposedly cost 13-15 million euros.
- Drenthe, Podolski, Klose… is there anybody else that we can link with Roma?
- A word of encouragement: No matter what happens this mercato, just keep repeating to yourselves: “It could be worse; at least we’re not Laziale. It could be worse; at least we’re not Laziale. It could be worse; at least we’re not Laziale…“
Stay tuned, fellow tifosi; the next post will be by Chris! Thanks everyone, for *not* running for cover while I subbed in!

Alessio.. We’ve already seen it. How are Inter so strong right now? Juve were their closest rivals (arguably) so they tapped Juventus’ phone lines to pick up enough evidence for calciopoli, got Juve relegated and took their players.

Not that I don’t agree with calciopoli. I think it was about time something was done regarding that but who knows if anything has changed. ursus thinks Moggi is still pulling the strings, many think Inter are pulling the strings now. I can’t back either of those theories because there is no evidence. If any evidence absolves Juve of any wrong doing then I’ll reconsider my feelings on calciopoli.

Aftewr last season’s ref debacles it’s a wonder Inter hasn’t been tapped up for Calciopoli 2.
Call me crazy but that is my opinion.

Bashar, if you speak italian, I have about a billion pages of documents that may not clear Juventus, but it certainly shows we were targeted unfairly. Email farsopoli@hotmail.com asking for some of the documents.
I don’t think Inter cheated last year. No doubt they got help from the referees, but that doesn’t mean they were bribing/paying/whatever. Here’s what I said about that from my last posting-
A further word on possible continuing Calciopoli. A lot have accused Inter of “cheating” and “buying referees” this season. While it’s clear they received more penalties than they should have, I am not calling match-fixing here. I do not like Inter one bit and hold many in their organization accountable for Calciopoli, but I’m not buying it. As Buffon once wisely noted, sometimes referees, “give a little more kindness to all the big teams.” If Inter gets denied a penalty, or concedes one, the Gazzetta and Inter nation go up in arms. If Atalanta gets screwed over, the other Nerazzurri fans protest, but their fans are much smaller and nobody listens. Ie- the Gazzetta showed Juve and Reggina were two of the most negatively-affected teams by refereeing decisions this year. All these newspapers played out news about a conspiracy against Juve, how much we were getting bullshitted, etc. True, but did anyone see an editorial on Goal.com about how Reggina was getting screwed? No. So clearly, whether you like it or not, a ref has a lot less incentive to give Atalanta a penalty over Inter. He doesn’t want to be scalped in the press and receive death threats. So I don’t believe Inter cheated…but they certainly received help.”

I see what you mean, Bashar. I thought you meant specifically poaching. The poaching will stop once Roma becomes more financially stable, because right now refusing their bid for Mancini would have been a horrible idea.

its fiorentina ownership setup.
they want to make mutu look like the bad guy while they collect and fans still love the ownership

“mutu is a fiorentina player!” is what ownership says.
2 days later mutu says i want to leave.
which is what fiorentina ownership wants because they want the 20 million euros.
and then they look good to the fans and mutu is made into the scapegoat.

Alessio.. I agree with you regarding calciopoli. The way I think of it is like it’s Saddam Hussein’s trial. It had to be done, but it was a joke of a trial that was unfairly rushed. Even if the outcome is the same the justice system was not allowed to run it’s course. Who knows, maybe more evidence would have come up and Juve would still be in B. But maybe the whole thing was fixed.
I also agree regarding Inter, which is what my discussions with Paolo have been about. My argument has always been that Inter received help that other teams haven’t but I don’t think the refs were bribed or Inter cheated. Sure conspiracy theories have crossed my mind but in the end there is no proof. But they still didn’t deserve that help and that’s why I maintain that Roma deserved the scudetto. In the end we agreed to disagree.
Just like Juve fans are still adamant they deserve those scudetti, Inter fans are the same about this one.

I don’t know about you guys, but with all this Muntari, Quaresma, etc etc. We need to stock up and get Mutu, and then Baptista, and then Malouda.
Prade must know this.
