VotD: The Last Trip To Udine
By: chris | October 24th, 2008One of my favorites from last year. Actually, still have the entire match somewhere in here.
For giggles & shits, the 2-1 as well.
(Gut feeling on one of these. Shh.)

Samson, let’s just say I wasn’t suggesting you’re a Minoan.

No longer constrained to the team, it looks like Guily is letting the cat out of the bag, doesn’t he?

Maro, it looks like things are kind of slow here. How are you going to “rile” people up today? You usually bring something to the table that makes people suddenly comment. Your thoughts on pizza could be a start…lol!

I should have thought giuly was the cat in the bag, Pauly. And I never “rile” people up.

At the beginning Giuly had soooooo much praise for our training. He’s just bitter.

Looks like Nedved is added to Juve’s injury list.

Poor old Merdaved. Let’s hope it’s not career-ending. I mean, if he’s going to get a career-ending injury you’d hope it’d be a stake through the arse or something like that.

hahah maro, false alarm, hes back on his feet.

Caroe: I really do think that there’s an element of truth behind Guily’s words. Our players can’t seem to stay of the Injury List. And, as soon ast their back of the field, it takes a bit before they are back in the IL again.
Of course you can’t put the entyre blame on the training, but what about the trainers, the medical staff and their rehabilitation practices????

Why the hell would you start Pizzaro over Brighi? Pizzaro has not played in awhile and they need to put there best foot forward from the start. Also I would give Menez the start over Taddei, he has been awful lately.

Because Pizza and Brighi are entirely different kinds of midfielders, perhaps, mac? Because one is a true regista, with real technical and playmaking qualities and the other is a hard-worker of quite different kinds of characteristics. How’s that for a start? I wonder how many of Roma’s best performances of the past 2+ seasons have come with Pizza on the pitch? Curious coincidence, that. I suspect the game at the Bernebeu last season would be just about the only real exception, though those with rose-tinted glasses and bad memories might be inclined to claim the game at Palermo last season too.

Barcelona are in sensational form.. Beat Atletico 6-1, at Basel 5-0 around a few other good results.. now they are up 5-0 against Almeria in 35 minutes.. Eto’o with a hat-trick, Henry with a goal and Alvez just scored a blistering free kick.. amazing one.

Pep Guardiola always was one of my heroes. He was a little like Pizza at his best. What a pity that Capello refused to find a way of playing with a creative defensive midfielder during those unhappy months at Roma.

That should’ve been 6 were it not for a poor offside call.

The way they play is absolutely phenomenal.. I never liked Barcelona but they are just irresistible to watch.. stunning..

Thats because even at 36 years old, the man is a fuckin’ machine.

How can anyone who’s not a Castilian or a Basque not like Barca? Surely they’ve represented what’s very best about football for years.

For all the talk of sexy-free-flowing football, I personally find disciplined great defending just as appealing. Maybe it’s because I’m Italian and that’s in my DNA. Too many people bash it as “negative” football.

Well alessio. I also appreciate defensive football but when its needed. (1-0 up, or against an attacking and talented squad) What annoys me about it is that a lot of teams make it a habit, therfore; make the games boring.
Roma V.S Chelsea is a perfect example. Roma, who i thought were gonna get their ass chewed played yawn football but they needed to. Going up against last years finalist at home? yeah i think any coach with a brain would play defense.

The difference maker in that game was the physicality

Thanks for the reply Maro. I agree with your opinon that Pizzaro and Brighi are entirely different midfielders. My opinion in terms of Brighi starting over Pizzaro is based on current form, and that I can’t remember the last game Pizzaro played all 90′ Seems like it would make the most sense to use him as a sub until he gains match fitness. I also would start Menez and bring Taddei on later.
