Is there any sort of oversight committee on officiating? Some sort of UEFA governing policy that grades these guys-they dont seem to have much accountability to anyone, thats how it appears on the surface anyway….why should Gilardino be suspended and the official not or reprimanded in some fashion.

No i was actually saying that part of being good is cheating but nice try. I just used the example of shirt pulling, diving is another one, and Ronaldo would be nothing without his dives.

Bashar, I can’t discuss that issue for professional reasons. I hope you understand. I can tell you that suspensions of trading are much more common in Italy than they are in the US and UK.

Bren, the oversight is currently in Collina’s hands. Though the drumbeat for some kind of video appeal is getting louder every day. My personal feeling is that Collina wouldn’t oppose a trial if FIFA and UEFA were not so fiercely opposed to the concept.

No worries ursus… I didn’t know that you had professional ties to this subject.. Maybe Gabs can enlighten us with her knowledge of the banking system in Italy. Or anyone else if they read any Italian news recently.

Bash, I can tell you that there was a great article in the Wall Street Journal (US Version) about 2-3 weeks ago. It went on to say that the banking system is still relatively strong in Italy due to the fact that most* of the banks kept their money in Italy. However, UniCredit had a lot more exposure because of their actions outside of Italy, they needed to recapitalize, and pay out on their last dividend. There was a subsequent report in Gazzetta or Corriere elaborating on this to the point that the next scheduled payment that Sensi has to make will not be deferred. In other words, there will not be any ‘new deals’ and UniCredit will not be taking no this time around, should Sensi not have the funds. I imagine there is a process, but either assets could be seized, and then liquidated to offset whatever debts Sensi still owes to UniCredit. Urs, or Gabs feel free to elaborate wherever necessary . . .

Might be a positive, he’s looked worthless recently.

The fact that Collina is the referee-designator only affirms last year’s anti-Juve referee bullshit. Of all the referees in the world, he’d be the one to fuck us over. Already did one miserable day in Perugia.

Juventini never ask for sympathy…amici di nessuno.

Just saying, the man is far from the “impartial referee god” many have made him out to be.

Just a thought, but if we put on a nice performance tomorrow, plus, with Cassano’s feelings about our team and the city, maybe he will think about coming back to us……Well, that is if we manage to pick up on the standings and gain momentum around January.

the only problem with the Gilardino case, and he has a point, is that he was dragged down in the box just before his hand unintentionally hit he ball, thus even had the goal not gone in, it should have been a penalty.

one can debate whether it would have been converted (statistics say something like 92% chance against any random goalie) or not, but that removes the ‘game-changer’ status on the play. notice Spaletti never whines the way Zampa does when far worse happens.

either way, it is not about fans whining. it is about being able to watch a game and feel like your team either won or lost fairly. it is unsatisfactory when the result seems stilted in one direction or another.
