I meant to say that, if we can find someone to bring along into Totti’s position, I guess we’ll start to see an idea of post-Totti Roma, but I got caught up in the whole thought of it, and focussed on that.
I think we really need to bring that person in for
Totti’s role while he’s still here, but recognizing that it will be his role in terms of creativity for building the attack, and won’t really be ‘replacing’ Totti.
Totti brings so much that you couldn’t fit in a job description – his vision and creativity are exceptional, and we can’t expect to easily replace those at that level. Players like Totti come along so rarely that we will probably need to change style of play, accepting the fact that there is not another Totti just waiting in the wings. Something for another blog discussion I’m sure.Anyway, enough about that. Let’s think about this game on Sunday. We may not be challenging Inter for the scudetto, so it isn’t like last year, but we are fighting for that CL spot, and I feel it’s still a bit of a grudge match, considering the last 12 months or so.

Yes, Virginia, there was Roma before Totti and there will be Roma after Totti. No doubt, Totti is a genius player but we still have won but one scudetto in his time. Totti cannot be duplicated but there will be other players who with their particular talent will bring much to the table. Better yet, a
great team with a few special players who will win 3 or 4
scudetti.Posted from

There will never be another Francesco Totti. He is a legend, and champion. There will be other “Great” iconic legend players for Roma, and I think that D’Alessandro will be something special. When we do find someone like Totti, we will be able to celebrate him, but while Totti is still here, lets enjoy him.
Plus Totti’s retirement is still 3-4 years away. Plus look at Del Piero. At 33-34 he scored 20 goals. If Totti can stay fit, we can expect his best. I think people are overestimating Totti’s form, he has been injured, and has played quite well, All he is missing is goals. Don’t worry wait another week and we will see him at his best and scoring goals.Posted from

By the way, if Petrucci becomes a star at Man United (which he will), he WILL return to Roma, at his best. Once a Roma player, always a Roma player.

Continuing on the subject, I would say the closest player to Totti at present is our dear Alberto. He has a cannon shot, skills on the ball, and really can slice open a defense with through balls and flicks. I know none of us our super pleased with questo ragazzo at this time. But fully fit, and in his groove, he could be spectacular, and an automatic at the trequartista position for us. I believe this time will come, it all comes down to his health.

Aquilani won’t be the next Totti, but will replace him, in the trequartista position. Skills, cannon, and resembles a younger Totti, and has injury prone legs like him. If he can stay fit, he will be a champion.

To be perfectly honest… i knew and loved totti a good three years before i started watching roma. My infatuation with totti first came while playing with him in fifa (playing as Italy) for the ps2. That quickly turned into my youtube phase constantly looking up videos of his utter brilliance. Then that turned into maybe watching fsc for particularly his highlights. I specifically remember coming across his magnificent chip goal against inter.
Then the 2006 world cup came around, and for the first time ever I watched full games, the entire 90 minutes, with my undivided attention. After that roma games were a must for me, hoping to watch totti play as much as possible (awesome 06-07 season). With totti’s injuries in 07-08, I became more of a pure roma fan. And now in 08-09, streaming matches from my computer that aren’t shown on television is an absolute must for me, as well as waking up every day to check out this roma-offside blog.
So, for me totti is the sole reason for getting into watching roma. As a particularly young roma fan (18 yrs old), i can easily say that not being able to see totti play full games in the prime of his career, not being able to see his amazing vision with players like cassano or batistuta, and not being able to see his amazing chip goals against lazio absolutely kills me.
When I watch totti now I can only hope that totti produces that utter brilliance he is known for so I can have some real tradition to remember and in the future be able to say “i was watching that game and boy was that amazing”.
So, what does totti mean to me, a youger roma fan? He is everything to me in regards to this beautiful game. His Holliness will always be TOTTI.Posted from

i’m not holding my breath for petrucci’s return. roma were bullheaded to offer him the 16,000 euro standard fee, and manure offered what we should have done. with the injuries and inconsistency from our front line this year there’s no reason why he couldn’t have cracked at least the reserve list by now. instead he’s going to be moving his way up the ladder in the most prestigious and highly monitored youth academy in the world. even if roma wisen up and offer the guy a straight up promise that he’s our next totti, which isn’t even a good idea, he has no real reason to return without giving the red devils a chance.
unfortunately, since totti only has 2-3 solid, productive years left in him max, our next striker product will have to be someone like okaka or (more likely) come through the transfer wire. we don’t have much time left, and i don’t think any of us feel comfortable handing the reigns to anybody we have right now. i think we’d all rather develop somebody, but we’ve got to spend some money on a big namer and avoid the medium-range, mediocre names like julio and giuly and the like.

Who’s SIMONE TOVALIERI . I read a while ago about, him. I know he is a striker, and has scored 6 goals in the Primavera. Is he any good, does he have a future.

Perrotta out for up to two months, according to reports. Totti most likely won’t play. Vucinic has shaken of his injury and will most likely start. Good news that Totti, isn’t going to play, I think he really needs a rest.

Everyone says Totti is injury prone, as if that has been the case through out his whole career. Prior to 2006 I don’t recall any significant injuries that would brand him as being injury prone. Am I mistaken?

I feel so good and right about playing the gunners at home. Do wish that we had our own stadium for this match and all the other home matches, but the Olimpico will do. We were graced too many times in London not to have something special on our side, at least in this knockout round. Let’s enjoy the ride and hope that the so elusive 4th spot can be conquered.

I’m confused. Isn’t the Olimpico our stadium?

I think that Italy want to make the stadio olympico the home stadium for the Italian national team, so Roma and Lazio will have to build their own stadiums.

Just read, Totti has made an overnight miracle recovery and will definitely play against Totti. Is this the game in which we see Totti score a cracker against Julio Cesar?

Jacob – you mean Totti will definitely play against Inter, I’m sure. Totti and Inter are two names that should never be confused.
I see, from perusing the headlines, that Mexes is speaking up about this game. (saying Rosetti caused us to lose the scudetto, and that he doesn’t fear Ibra and Adri) I feel that way to about Rosetti, but I hope Mexes will keep his cool tomorrow. The more players talk before the game, the less I expect of them on the actual game day.

I think mentally this game is huge, not to mention the 4th place chase that’s on. Plus Inter is a bunch of dirty mercenary cheaters, so it’d be extra-good to beat them.

Awesome video Chris, and I would hate to lose the game tomorrow. As for Totti, he should rest if he is not fit, we need a fit Totti for the rest of the season.

How do players get hurt so much???? Seriously, I played sports all my life, I played hardocer, never stretched right, and I’ve never even pulled a muscle. On my soccer team in college one kid broke his knee and another had a nagging injury all season one year, but that’s it. How is it so hard for our players to stay healty? Is it b/c of the high level of competition??? Then what is all the offseason training for? What kills me is how many of our players pull up lame in practice!

Yes mac i agree with you, it is only since that horrible injury that he started going through this injury phase, guess due to the fact of statistically being serie A most fouled player every season.
He probably will play this weekend but a rest next week against Udine would be good and he should be close to 100% against Arsenal and that is all we will need.

Chase i believe it is the training sessions, remember Spalletti believes in everybody attacks and everybody defends so i guess they are some really rigorous training sessions.
They really need to do something about that.Posted from

Pizarro’s injured now too. Pizarro, Perrotta and Aquilani all out, although Pizarro’s on the list, as is De Rossi.
Oh, and GOMR is on the list.

Panucci on the list, well I feel lot more comfortable with a Mexes-Panu backline. Motta or Cici on RB and Riise/Tonetto on LB.
midfield: Taddei,DDR and Brighi
Baptista behind Totti and Vuci (or Menez behind Bapt and Vuci if Totti starts on bench.I’d prefer not to play francesco, arsenal is more important now, there are enough serie A games left but only one CL game

Oh, and don’t shed too many tears, but Loria is not called up for this game.
