VotD: Roma’s Not At All Bipolar. No Sir.

By: chris | September 21st, 2009

I’m back from my brief unexpected departure – both games in the queue and ready to be watched with a couple of bottles of lithium. Til then.

Just got back from Italy where I saw 6 points! I swear Rosella should fucking pay me to travel with the squad, never seen them lose.

Couple things that stuck out from the match Sunday night at Olimpico.
    - New seats at Olimpico are awesome. Those blue plastic half seats with pigeon shit all over them were horrible.
-Biggest cheers during intro’s went to Vucinic with DDR a close second. Loudest jeers and whistles went to Taddei.
-The curva Sud knows how to make an entrance, that was impressive, could have done without the bombs though.
-DDR is officially my favorite soccer player. Watching that guy throughout a match and to see his fire and love for the shirt is incredible.
-Okaka is a horse. When he puts it all together he will be a star, lets just hope its for Roma
-For a night match against a pretty big squad the olimpico was only about half full
-I think I am done sitting in Monte Mario, sat in Tevere this time and enjoyed it much more and they are cheaper seats.
-Picked up a sweet ass 753 shirt from the Roma store in Piazza Colonna. Couldn’t believe they had XXL.
-It is hard as fuck to buy tickets in Italy. No wonder the stadiums are half empty.

Hey CapoCorso, what do you mean by it being so hard to get tix in Italy?

    Thanks

Actually Goober got some minutes in Basel too, so it’s not certain. I’m sure Ranieri will inject them into the squad when he found out how to use them properly.

Keep in mind, we have games pretty much every 3 or 4 days. If they don’t play tomorrow, I expect to see at least a couple of changes on Sunday. Mainly Menez, Guberti, Brighi.

Okaka will get more playing time. His work rate is huge, passing is awesome, etc. If we are smashing Palermo expect him to come on.

    Jacob,

I will be more than happy to come away with a point at this point. Pink Pussies are wounded and sore at the moment and I expect them to put up a fight just like we did against the purple bastards.

Players like Menez and Guberti are probably not the best choices for games in Sicily.

Spalletti only changed players when we had injuries. At least Ranieri is known as the Tinkerman. Even Giovinco played 27 games for Juve last year.

I don’t know what CapoCorso is talking about either. You walk to Piazza Colonna, walk upstairs, hand over your passport, and buy a ticket. It takes literally 5-8 minutes and you can often choose the exact SEAT you want at the Olimpico.

Ranieri usually likes big black players (from a footballing point of view only I hope lol) so we should expect many Faty Okaka substitutions.

Capocorso, why don’t you sit in Curva Sud? Tix are 15 euro last I checked instead of 75 for MM seats and it’s so much better.

For example buying tickets for the match at Siena last Sunday was nearly impossible. Siena had no online outlet, and we discovered that you can not buy them day of the match. So even though the stadium was closer to quarter full than half full, hundreds of people sat outside watching (including me) because it was impossible to buy tickets. Luckily the field in Siena is set down in a valley so you can stand up above and watch the match. Still sucked ass though.
We went to Rome the next day (Monday) and thought we could go to Piazza Colonna and buy tickets for the match the next week against Fiorentina, of course tickets for the match did not go on sale until Tuesday. Since we were leaving for Napoli Monday night I figured I could just buy them on line from listicket.it which I have done before.
Of course Friday when I went online to buy the tickets the deadline had passed for buying tickets online. Luckily listicket has outlets all over rome…unluckily they are all closed on Sunday when we were due to arrive back in Rome.
We made it over from the airport to Piazza Colonna about 5:30, another 30 minutes and we would have missed out because the ticket office closed at 6 for the 8:45 match.
For the life of me I cannot figure out why in the hell they would limit ticket sales to such a short window. Contrast that with trying to buy a ticket for a sporting event here. I can buy Dodger tickets for a game in September about the same day the schedule comes out in Feb or March. In fact I can buy them the day of the game at the stadium or online the day of the game no problem. Same goes for football and basketball….Just bad business.
As for why I don’t sit in the curva…I don’t know, we thought about it, but I’m in my mid 30’s and feel like my curva days are over….kind of like sitting in the student section at USC football games, just seems sad.

Capocorso, I have only been to two games and that was last year and I agree it was a big headache to buy tickets. One game against Atalanta me and my cousin took our chance on scalpers tickets. Because we couldn’t buy any tickets from the outlet becuase of the fan ban. And considering my cousin lives in Roma they still won’t sell it to him was really stupid.

Capo, I can see understand your reasons for not sitting the the Curva. So tix don’t go on sale for a Sunday match until the Tuesday before?

I always purchased my Roma tix at the Tabacchi on the corner of Via dei Serpenti and Via Leonina. Right next to Piazza dei Zingari. It’s like 8 blocks north of il Colosseo.

Capo, I’m with you. Mid 30’s. I made the mistake of getting tickets for me and my wife in the curva sud for a derby. She was not amused by the antics. And even if I were by myself I wouldn’t do it again. I feel like I’ve ticked that off the list. Now I just want to enjoy the game from a nice vantage point. I had more fun in other sections anyway.

Capo thanks for sharing, sounds like good times all in all and witnessing firsthand the bass ackwards that is Italia. I understand if you have kids or if your wifey isn’t in tune with the madness that is La Roma, but comon’! Every Roma fan should at least one time in their lifetime watch a match at the Olimpico from the CS, and by no means can it be compared to the student body section of a SC game at LA Coliseum!!! No offense Capo but the two are not even on the same fucking planet.
