VotD: Game Face Time

Injury Updates

Sit down and grab a stiff drink. Or several.

i. Francesco – yes, Francesco Totti – left training today with a flexor injury – you know, the one he joked about to reporters yesterday – and is now in doubt.
ii. Juan’s leg apparently did detach itself and walk out of the hotel, so he’s likely a no go. Pick your poison: Loria or Diamoutene. I pick absinthe.
iii. Both Cicinho and Mirko are looking unlikely – available and far from 100% at the very best.
iv. Aquilani is ready to go, which is a nice surprise. Throw him in a game of technique and he’ll light it up.

This is awful, and it’s not even gameday yet.

NO LORIA – and trust me, every Roma fans have to say it out loud NO LORIA!! and Spal will hear it. I actually think Loria is underrated(I mean we treat him as if he is a high school footballer) but in this occasion NO, b/c his confidence is way tooooooo low and every ball that comes at him he will either dodge or kick the ball without looking. I think totti not playing is fortune in disguise b/c Wenger will know how to deal with him and plus he is about 60% fit anyways. I would rather start with Aquilani and Baptista and Vucinic. But without Vucinic I would rather see him play. My preferred formation
    -Cicinho—Mexes—Riise—Motta—
    —Taddei—De Rossi—-Brighi—–
    ———Aquiani–perrotta———
    ————Baptista—————
I think we will at least score one against Arsenal, my prediction: 2-1 ROMA!!!!!!

sorry Ben, i have to disagree (not about loria). Totti 60% fit/energized on the pitch makes the rest of the players feel 105% fit/energized. If you do the math, roma is better off with totti. All of his team-mates have talked about the psychological advantage when totti is on the pitch, so for me totti stays. My prefered formation

    Cici–Mexes–Juan–Riise
    -De Rossi-
    Taddei—— Brighi
    -Perrotta-
    Baptigol——Totti

seriously, riise at center back? i do agree with your prediction tho :) Forza Roma

    This is hilarious. . .

from the finest footballing website on the planet (goal.com)’30 Cultural Differences’ – England vs. Italy

Number 9: “In England, if SKY Sports says that Peter Crouch is the best player in the world, the whole country believes and preaches it. In Italy, if SKY Italia says that Simone Loria is the best defender on the planet, the whole nation cancels their satellite subscription.”

Totti recalls his most memorable hat trick:

    Ciao Romanisti!!!

It’s really unfortunate to see all of the injuries on both sides. This would have been a very exciting tie if both teams were at full strength.

With Juan being out of the line-up and Francesco perhaps a no-go, we really might struggle. Let’s hope Francesco’s miraculous recovery ability kicked in over the evening!!!

    Hopeful lineup:

    Doni

    Cicinho Mexes Diamoutene Riise
    DDR
    Taddei Brighi
    Aquilani
    Totti
    Vucinic

Subs: Baptista, Perrotta, Pizarro, Menez, Motta

Totti is 33, Roma are looking the best they have in years. If there every was a year to make a serious attempt for the Champions League it is this one!

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the Totti “injury” may be a Spal-tactic.

I have vicodin too Apuzzo, but that does shit all for me. Plus mixing the two is recipe to lower your blood pressure to th point where your heart over works trying to pump blood and you die.

To Jed: Juan is injured and I saw every minute of Diamoutene play last weekend against siena and he was nervy at best. I personally think with the options we have: Diamoutene, Loria, Riise, Mexes, Cicinho, Tonneto, Motta, the best four is Riise Cicinho Mexes and Motta. I think Riise can play as a center back and honestly rather see him play center back than Diamoutene. My lineup takes into account Totti reported as being injured. I would like him to start only if Vucinic is not fit, if he is I would like Vucinic and Baptista to start with Aquiliani at the Trequesta.

ben with little b: I saw nerves from Diamoutene too. I’m sure that’s what is behind the little stutter steps he takes before kicking the ball. He could get away with that against Siena, but can he against the likes of van Persie? I’m not saying he’s a disaster, but if he was nervous against Siena, how would he feel in a CL debut?

Mexes had his hands full with being a nanny to the newbies on the team, and I’m not sure that’s a recipe for a successful CL game. I think at least one of DDR and Brighi will have to hang back quite a bit (I’m looking at you, Daniele) to help out no matter who is partnering with Mexes.

Riise as CB though? Yikes. Has he *ever* played there? (has Motta, for that matter?)

That Panucci fiasco looms larger than ever over this game. :(

I don’t know how to say this but I take Loria for Juan tonight, not that Diamond guy. (God, I can’t believe my own words) At least if he mess up in this game, then Prade will surely kick his ass out in summer. Btw TGIP said he trust him and after all these years this guys has been right. Motta will play his champs league debut tonight and I hope to see all DDR Brighi Perotta KA together in the midfield tonight.

If Juan is out, we must park the bus in front of the goal and lob bombs to the beast. 0-0 in London would be just fine with this line up.
    NO LORIA EVER AGAIN!

I can’t wait to watch the match at 8 on Tuesday in the local soccer pub. I believe I am the only Roma fan in Texas? It’ll be me and a bunch of Assenal fans. Whoop! Whoop!

Kurdt – please remember the last time Gloria played. 15 seconds after he was in the game Reggina – not Arsenal- REGGINA scored right in front of him. Inexcusable, unforgivable, awful, etc…..

Johnny – I will never forget the Loria’s damages but you still remember the Siena’s game right? Of course it was an awful performance from Roma but that Diamond guy almost cost us another shame by Siena in front of our owns. I just point that if Loria mess up then Prade will surely put him on the transfer paper. If Diamond play, it will just be another excuse for us in the end.

I will be very upset if i don’t see both Totti and Vucinic in the first team.
Without these two Arsenal has no reason to be scared on the back and they will attack the entire game. I m hoping all this is just tactic that Spaletti is making!

Very very sad that Roma will have to do without JUAN!

i would like to see this formation.
    Doni
    Cicinjo Mexes Motta Rise
    DDR
    Perotta Brighi Baptista

    Totti Vucinic

Aquilani in the early second half
as well as Tadei and Pizaro.

    No LORIA pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

“Being Totti, however, he could not resist the chance to throw in a little joke. Looking down the light-blue UNICEF jersey he is forced to wear when he does his UN charity work, he asked: “It’s five years now that I’ve had to wear these colours for you. Could you not change them, please?”"

I don’t know if you guys notice but I have serious doubts about the 4-1-2-1-2 vs. Arsenal … They’re strength is their wingplay, correct? Even w/o Walcott, they have Samir Nasri and other really good attackers along the wings…

I don’t know … I haven’t seen much of Arsenal but that seems to be their strong point to me.

asem — on FSW, Bobby (who is the only one there who knows anything) mentioned that to play well against Arsenal, you have to defend the corners of the back and side of midfield well. I hope Spalletti has watched their recent games (I’m sure he has), and noticed that — that is the tactic that was used to frustrate them on the weekend. Don’t let their wingers run rampant.
