VotD: A “Matter of Hours”
By: chris | August 22nd, 2008We’ve heard this before, but….David Suazo is supposedly on the verge of a move to Rome. The Grand Imperial Poobah may be getting his long awaited wish. And frankly, so might I. More than finishing, he’s the end product. That last burst of speed, that final surge of power. Roma has never lacked cheeky creativity, so in comes the raw athleticism. Maybe.

official sheva to milan

haha its true. i think a majority of their 10 or so defenders were 70’s children (except Paolo who is 40) – it is a bit daft that at the beginning of the summer they needed to buy a centreback for the future and they ended up with Zambrotta, Flamini,Ronaldinho, Borriello, Abbiati and Sheva! but no big name centre back. Antonini?

Same story…
Panucci has to play. It’s the hierarchy in Rome unfortunately.
Totti and Panucci call the shots.

I’ll be surprised if it is Panucci. Think it’s Cassetti. Or both, actually.

hey if someone can’t play for the team then they don’t get a jersey – the cicinho thing is a no brainer; act like a spoilt brat and disrespect your teammates and your boss then go sit in the corner. end of.

I think its not nice of Spalletti to treat Cicinho like this now…coz now Cicinho cant leave (all his brasilian friends are here, and summer transfer nearly over).
Spalletti should have treated him like this earlier if he had the balls.
I like Spal, but like many people from Tuscany I have a feeling he takes things personally and sticks to his principles even when wrong.

I think it’ll be:
Doni
Panucci-Mexes-Juan-Tonetto
De Rossi-Aquilani
Cassetti-Perrotta-Vucinic
BaptistaPosted from

KJ.. Pato played with Baptista before.. he knows more than you do… So I trust his views more than mine or yours.
Stefan.. Shut up! For the love of God just shut up! All you do is insult our management instead of bringing anything constructive to this board. Spalletti has been the coach for how long? He knows the situation better than you do.
I want to know the real story behind the Cicinho thing. I heard something came up while they were handing out the shirts which is what got him dropped. It doesn’t seem like he’s sulking because he was told he’s not starting.

Cicinho for Borriello!!!
(In my dreams, that is. It would be a dream come true to dump a Brazilian and pick up an Italian in one move. Keep Roma an ITALIAN side, PLEASE. The Giallorossi are in danger of becoming almost fully de-Italianized, like the Nerazzuri.)Posted from

Could be even more conservative, in pure Spalletti’s sttyle:
————–Doni—————–
Panucci—-Juan—Mexes—–Tonetto
———–DDR—-Pizarro———-
Cassetti——–KA———-Perrotta
————–Vucinic————–Posted from

hey we should put in a euro each and guess the starting players/positions! winner takes all

Vin.. We have 15 Italians on the squad 4 of which could go out on loan.. our entire youth team with the exception of a couple players are all Italian. Most of our players that are out on loan are Italian.
We have 7 Brazilians.. 2 of which are reserve keepers. 5 more players of other nationalities. So that’s 15 Italians and 12 of everyone else. We are nowhere close to being de-Italianized.

So what’s the deal with Cicinho? Anyone know why he freaked out?

Stefan, how old are you? Calling Spalletti a fag is really rather, ahem, immature.
Spalletti calls the shots here and I give him so much respect for the sense of ‘levelheadedness’ he has brought to Roma. Not so much drama — although being Roma, there has to be some! I think I mentioned before, when I attended the Coppa Italia final last year I was very struck by the fact that Spalletti got major applause during the lineup announcements … much louder than the bench players.
Respect to Spalletti!

alessio — it seemed like it was during training he was not handed one of those shirts that show you are on the first team for the game and he reacted badly. (no more details than that) Spalletti has ‘punished’ him by not bringing him to Milan.
I hope that’s the end of it. We know he was upset about not being on the squad to face Madrid last year, but he came around, so this could be the same thing. He acts out of emotion, then gets his punishment and will be a team guy.

I don’t have a euro but my two guesses for lineup/formation for tomorrow’s game are:
———–Doni———–
Panucci–Mexes–Juan–Riise
——DDR—-Pizzaro——
-Aquilani-Perrotta-Vucinic-
———-Baptista———(maybe sub Cassetti for Panucci or Aquilani)
I wouldn’t mind the following:
———–Doni————
Panucci–Mexes–Juan–Riise
—DDR–Pizarro–Perrotta–
———Aquilani———-
—-Baptista—-Vucinic—-Posted from

Bashar, I’ve done the count, dude. It’s the starting lineup. Serie A teams should be starting at least 6 Italians, but for that to happen, you need Italians in your top flight. Now, look at the lineups posted in these comments; most have seven non-Italians on the field.

Hmmm – I’m having trouble with the formation…it did seem like 3 at the back during the awful preseason friendlies but maybe that’s just riise being useless at defending??
Doni
Panucci-Mexes-Juan-Tonetto
De Rossi-Aquilani
Cassetti-Perrotta-Vucinic
BaptistaPosted from

I guess Im one of the few who couldnt care less about the ethnic make up of any teams lineup, much less Roma. its the world we live in, as long as they win, I dont care.
Italys won four world cups, so they know how to nurture and develop talent, so i dont see the natl team suffering b/c of the percentage of foreigners in the Serie A like youre seeing with England right now, which I dont think has anything to do with the makeup of their league. If the english players are good enough, theyll play in the epl, ditto for Italy.
So 11 Italians or 1, I just want a winning team.

who cares how many italians we have?
if you wanna throw around things like that, the fact is that we have more of an italian make-up than any team other than juve. we supply usually 4 players from our squad to the team as well (DDR, Perrotta, Aqui, Cassetti/Panucci). but why does it really matter? the key is to win…Posted from

I just read the comment from Stefan, It’s not worthy of a response.

Here my euro…
and here’s my line up;)
Doni
Panucci Mexes Juan Tonetto
DDR Pizarro
Aquilani Baptista Perrotta
Vucinichad doubts about Vucinic but Baptista really said he wants that 2nd striker role so Spal may opt to use him in Perrotta’s place and Simone on left wing where he did fine in world cup,I’m sure Spal has seen that too. Could also see some Cassetti maybe on right or left wing, really don’t have a clue.
Aquilani on the wings well…that sucks yea but hey,Spal’s the man and honestly guys,
if Totti is grabbing the coppa tonight, none on us eis going to throw shit at him of not playing Cici or Totti or fucking Artur.Posted from
