He is in a team with Montolivio, who is a better passer, which is exactly the point. Aquilani can make the pass, but most often does not need to, Roma does not feed off of through passes as much as creative play from the wings or Perotta or De Rossi storming forward. If Aquilani can defend better then Pizarro (which as Chris pointed out isnt hard), then he will be enromously more valuable, because someone has to mop up before the defense. The fact is, at pizarro's price tag and age, his qualities dont justify it. I have barely seen Aquilani pass the ball as Pizarro does, he dosn't have the same vision of the game and he will never be able to dribble like Pizarro. Spalletti has said it, after Totti Pizarro is our most important player and why is that? when he gets the ball on the counter he controls it and then opnes the game up with a great long pass that any of the three men up front can run into, Aquilani might be able to do this sometimes but not with the same effect Pizarro has. I know he is not that great defensively but that just means that De Rossi has to stay back more...
