Roma 2 – Bordeaux 0

And now your Group A champions.

GAME

92′ Yadda yadda yadda. Yadda. Yadda yadda. Yadda.

90′ The pace of the game has died, as though Bordeaux is resigned to their fate. Which they should be: only 2 mins of stoppage.

And the Piza cameo as well, Perrotta off. 90 seconds plus stoppage time. That’s a solid 12 playbacks, if not more.

87′ Here comes Mirko, on for His Francesconess. And the goals keep flowing….

85′ Bellion falls over his own feet, boout describes this game. Another sloppy pass/deflection/fugly play.

83′ Bordeaux making things happen down near the box but can’t quite come up with that final move.

Cluj keeper just saved 3-1. If this scoreline holds up, though, I could care less.

81′ That was incredibly necessary. Starting to feel a Bordeaux equalizer coming on.

Jeremy just gets to the ball first, passes it to an on rushing Totti and he, what else, fires it into the back of the net. Menez comes off for Cicinho.

79′ Menez break…Tottttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLL

78′ Cicinho’s getting his instructions. Joy.

77′ Gourcuff with a hard, dipping shot, but Doni saves quite easily.

76′ Dangerous back pass from Menez to Doni, who just gets there in time to clear it well up the field where Beast turns into The Tank and mows down Jurietti.

75′ No subs yet from Spal. Not enough healthy bodies on the pine.

73′ Baptista creates his sace but the cross is weakly headed into Rame’s hands….I looked down and they now have a corner.

Chelsea 2-1. Pfffffffffffft.

72′ Bordeaux with some nice work to create a chance but Jurietti’s chip from inside the box turns into a full on boot. Yellow for Diawara, extracurriculars on His Eminence.

71′ Doni goal kick…Menez running arround like a…wait for it…menace.

The other Bordeaux sub was Jussie on for Chamakh.

70′ Panucci back on, but looking decidedly less mobile.

Panucci limping off….Menez break…foiled by the defense. Great chance there….Bordeaux back with it down the Roman end. Two Bordeaux subs: Bellion in for Wendel and someone in for someone else.

67′ Gourcuff….headed out for a corner. Panucci’s hurt. Here come the docs. This doesn’t look good.

65′ Some serious one touch passing between the lads but Menez was well offside on his run. Perrotta called for a foul down at the other end.

64′ Back at it…Panucci with a brilliant thought on a leading cross in from the far right but the Bordeaux defender was just far enough to intercept.

Matteo had to reach back for the ball too. Class work on all parts.

Simone steams after a pass from Baptista, sends the ball in the middle from the touch line annd Brighi only has to finish. Reminds of the 1-0 Cluj.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLL BRIGHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

59′ Bordeaux with it yet again. Lots of possession, Juan forced to clear out a cross for a throw.

Cicinho and Mirko warming up.

Oh good. Here comes Bordeaux’s hitman, Cavenaghi. On for….Gouffran maybe.

57′ Roma finally doing some work in the Bordeaux end. Short lived, however. Mexes looks like he just took a shot to the neck. More sloppy work in the back.

Cluj 1-1!

56′ Free kick Roma from 30 or so…DDR over it….punched out by Rame.

55′ DDR has been subpar with cross and passes today. Gorgeous over the top ball cleared by the defender. Best chance in a while…Roman throw…Bordeaux thieve it…break. Mexes with a world class tackle on Gourcuff heading in 1v1 with Doni. Welcome to the big leagues, kid.

54′ Horrid pass by DDR….Menez break….yellow card for Jurietti for a rough foul on Francesco.

53′ Bordeaux with multiple chances in the box…trying times. Chamakh’s shot eventually oes wide, but this entire team needs to step up. 60% possession Bordeaux. Awful. Perrotta bundled by Gourcuff, no call.

51′ Sloppy work in the box eventually cleared out of harm’s way.

49′ Menez tackle! Do you suppose he felt the camera on Domenech and immediately proved his versatility? I do.

Very dangerous corner but moot, as Diawara sent multiple Roman bodies flying. Domenech in the house. Isn’t tha lovely. Here for Philou, no doubt.

48′ Piss poor pass results in a Roman attack, Totti’s over-the-top ball too strong for Simone. Panucci fouls Chamakh near the edge of the box far left….free kick…..fired off Menez for a corner.

47′ More booing Bordeaux possession. Doni falls down picking up the ball. Good god. What a doofus.

SECOND HALF KICKOFF

Back out of the tunnel they come. No personnel changes, hopefully just mental changes.

Good god that was horrendous. I need a nap.

HALFTIME

One minute oof stoppage. Can’t come soon enough….scratch that. Panucci cross just cleared out for a corner by Diawara….corner…..DDR…two poor balls into the box by Daniele.

44′ Bordeaux corner….taking forever…..headed out….Bordeaux back with it. Will probably run down the clock.

43′ More of Bordeaux playing with/amongst themselves in the back. Spalletti could use some Pizaman. Whether he’s fit enough or not….

41′ Finally some work in the Bordeaux half. Panucci wide…cross….Totti bundled and Baby Huey calls a hand ball. Bizarre.

Chelsea 1-0. Kalou. To be expected.

39′ Bordeaux free kick 40 yards out…Doni spills the easy catch but it’s eventually shot wide for a goal kick. Good christ. For every brilliant save there’s a butterfingers moment.

37′ Brighi gets a yellow for a rough tackle and Menez gets a dressing down for dressing down the ref. Nay, #7 is Gouffran.

Number 7 (Chamakh?) looking for the softest penalty of all time. No dice.

35′ Bordeaux back the other end. Very much like the first half in Cluj: some decent back and forth stuff, but more the result of sloppy play than quality. Minus the goals, of course.

33′ Both squads could use an inspired half time talk. And Gourcuff needs a slap upside the head…Roma break…Brighi…Beast…pass to strong for Brighi again.

32′ Class tacckle by Riise….Menez blows by the defender by going around, shoved off the ball by Fernando. Free kick…DDR…..headed out of the box…someone’s hurt. Simone. Play continues, but it looks like he’s struggling.

30′ Menez on the run….handball in the early going stops it.

28′ Panucci cross in goes to no one. Bordeaux break…Bordeaux corner.

I see Riise went for haircut at the nearest US Marine Corps station.

27′ Whenever Bordeaux wins possession they seem to work it around the back for an hour before moving it forward. Makes for very unexciting football.

25′ Bordeaux corner dangerously cleared out….Menez is bundled again by Chalme who stop the counter with his shoulder. Easy yellow.

23′ Stream’s getting jumpy….two balls sent into the box amounting too nothing. Perhaps a bit less. DDR with a one man skillz competition down by the corner flag to save a BBordeaux corner.

22′ Bordeaux go back the other way and things get dicey before an offside call stops the attack.

21′ Piss poor ball leads to a Bordeaux attack, cleared out of the box….Roma break….Totti dribbles through the entire Bordeaux backline only to lose it in the box. More from His Eminence.

Brighi elbowed in the face, that’s nice.

19′ These French cats are annoying as all hell. I can’t quite get what they’re saying, but I think it’s something along the lines of “I like little boys”.

18′ Roma down near the box….Totti with a flick….Menez….Baptista with a fantastic looking shot but it goes high. Too much Beast there.

16′ Every time I look up Cluj is in Chelsea’s half. I expect nothing less than a Chelsea slaughtering, but still.

15′ Beautiful poke by Juan to clear the cross from the box. Roma struggling tocontrol possession here….Roman break but the pass to Menez is off and defended easily.

14′ Slow Bordeaux possession. Blah.

12′ Mexes goes for the over-the-top cross, entire team picture is offside. Menez bundled in the box, corner…taken quickly and the French guys were yelling, but the cameraman was taking a nap. Bitches. I guess something juicy happened. Make it up in your heads.

10′ Menez molested then fouled. Free kick just inside the half played quickly and yet another free kick over by the far touch line….headed out to Menez, whose cross is again headed out for a tthrow.

9′ Custerfuck in the box on the throw cleared out to DDR….Riise with a cross to thejolly green giant over by the far corner flag.

8′ Baptista’s free kick goes just high. Hasn’t struck the most wonderful of free kicks this year thus far, has he?

6′ Free kick Frenchies from 35+…headed high by Planus. Few too many Bordeaux chances for my liking here. Totti fouled in a very dangerous position. 21-22 yards.

5′ I’ve also got Cheelsea-Cluj in the background, so will give sporadic updates there.

Boirdeaux with the bulk of the possession here. Weak shot saved easily by Doni.

3′ Maneuvering streams….Menez to Totti….pushed out to Baptista who fires in for an easy save which would’ve been a goal kick anywho.

1′ Early hot from Fernando goes high.

KICKOFF

So the big deal for the French has been the return of Rame. He’d better make Sorrentino’s weekend performance look like a poor man’s Artur for it to matter.

I have to say, this stream is losing its luster quickly. I have no qualms with French as a language under normal circumstances, but “excited French” annoys the living shit out of me.

Coming out of the tunnel, Roma in home red and Bordeaux in white.

At the moment I’m rocking the TF1 Media Player stream in WMP. Seems good, we’ll see how long I can stomach the fawning over Yoann “I’m not even Bordeaux’s property” Gourcuff.

Official Lineups:

ROMA (4-3-2-1): Doni; Panucci, Mexes, Juan, Riise; Perrotta, De Rossi, Brighi; Baptista, Menez; Totti. A disp. Artur, Cicinho, Loria, Pizarro, Vucinic, Montella, Cassetti. All. Spalletti

BORDEAUX (4-2-3-1):
Ramè; Chalmè, Planus, Diawara, Jurietti; A.Diarra, Menegazzo; Gouffran, Gourcuff, Wendel; Chamakh. A disp. Valverde, Tremoulinas, Placente, Jussie, Traorè, Bellion, Cavenaghi. All. Blanc

ARBITRO: Fandel (Ger)

Holy Menez. And Pizarro makes the bench.

First of all, RIP Rodrigo Taddei: out for two months. It won’t be that terrible with this relatively easy stretch coming up, ‘Berto & Fancypants returning against Cagliari and Rodrigo being way off form, but you never want to see anyone go down for an extended spell. Particularly given Alberto’s inevitable 93rd minute hammy pull coming this weekend.

And this probably puts the kibosh on any thoughts for a return of the 4-2-3-1 in the near future.

Now let’s provide the scenarios again, but with spelling corrections this tyme:

Roma win/draw: through automatically.
Roma lose and Chelsea lose/draw*: through.
Roma lose and Chelsea win: UEFA Cup.

* – Roma have the tiebreaker with a Chelsea draw due to the goal difference advantage in games they went head-to-head (+1).

    Well, we avoid Barca.

    Winners (As of now)
    Roma
    Panathinaikos
    Liverpool
    Barca
    Man U
    Lyon
    Arsenal
    Juve

    Runners-up
    Chelsea
    Inter
    Atletico
    Sporting
    Villareal
    Bayern
    Porto
    Real Madrid

Let’s hope Real jump Juve, I’d rather avoid them for now in case they get it together, and since we played them last year. Seems like we always play the same teams in the knockout stages

Does anyone want to take a bet that Chelsea draws Panathinaikos? lol

    awesome performance

    7 uncalled fouls against Bordeaux
4 unnecessary fouls called against Roma
2 unwarranted throws given over to Bordeaux
1 unwarranted corner awarded to Bordeaux

Chalme probably should have been double yellowed.

awesome win dispite all the crap calls

    We can draw:

Sporting; Atlético; Real Madrid (providing Juve don’t lose at home to BATE); Porto or Arsewipe (they play tomorrow); Lyon or Bayern (they play tomorrow); or Villarreal (providing ManPoo win at home to AaB, which they surely will).

Brighi is so cool and collected in front of goal. Aquilani may be left on the bench now. i would say MOTM … he was all over the place. Doni also looked great. the slow-motion replays show how clinical he actually is.

Good point Chico…This is the first time we ever won a CL Group. And to think, we lost the opener to Cluj.

…the phoenix is rising from the ashes!

Sing it loud, sing it proud:

    Roma Roma Roma
    core de sta città
    unico grande amore
    de tanta e tanta gente
    che fai sospirà

    Roma Roma Roma
    lasciace cantà,
da sta voce nasce un coro
    so centomila voci
    c’hai fatto innamorà

    Roma Roma bella
    t’#### dipinta io,
    gialla come er sole
rossa come er core mio Roma

    Roma Roma Roma
    nun te fa incantà
    tu sei nata grande
    e grande hai da restà

    Roma Roma Roma
