Roma Breaks Out The New Kits
By: chris | July 26th, 2007They’re pretty simple, as we all expected. The away kit is plain white, just like the setup used for the friendly with Borussia Dortmund, except this time there is no S.P.Q.R. across the chest, much to the dismay of pretty much all the Romanisti. I believe we’re still waiting for the official unveiling of the Champions League kit, but it should be pretty much the exact same thing, just dark blue or maybe even black.
Oh, and it has been announced Chivu will complete his transfer to Inter within the next 24-48 hours.

Pretty simple jerseys there, I wouldnt give 60 euros for those( Even though I cant find Kappa Stores in Paris :(), and the jersey looks incomplete without a sponsor or SPQR. still better than having nothing than filthy RyanAir

OK. Love the Kappa sign on the sleeve. Looks dope. But I think the missing sponsorship looks funny. Probably will come to love it, but for now I’d like one. Thinking beer, Old Style would be dope.
And, I know that they won the Coppa and it needs be celebrated. But, that bullseye, especially on the roadies, looks ridiculous. They should just be done with it and have Target sponsor them.

the white jersey is pretty dissapointing since roma’s symbol isn’t there. Also if we did keep that S.P.Q.R it would be sick why did it need to be for one time , look at inter they have that stupid cross that represents milan i think why not leave the spqr that represnts Rome. Also its to bad they didnt use the old wolf symbol anywhere on the shirt would be good to have it on the sleeve and around says 1927 - 2007 just like inter will have.Hope Roma get a sponser, would be real badass if they brought back barilla.

What is with the target symbol on the jerseys? It’s surely not the insignia for Calcio?

It’s the symbol for the Coppa Italia. Holders get to wear it for the following season.

I agree it looks classy without a sponsor’s logo, but one would think it’d be worth looking slightly less classy in exchange for that nice infusion of sponsor cash. I refuse to believe no one wants to sponsor Roma — what’s the deal with that decision?

There was some speculation that the last time Rosella held sponsor negotiations, the offers she received were much lower than she wanted.
So rather than accepting a low offer and permanently devaluing the price levels for sponsoring Roma, she opted to go with clean jerseys for a relatively short time in hope that Roma would manage to up their market value in that time, hopefully enabling her to get a better deal from this season on, and hopefully recouping the loss over time.
We’ll see what happens once and if they get a sponsor this season, there’s usually someone in the Roma community able to sniff out how much we get in the shirt and sponsor deals.Posted from

Word is we’ll be wearing the logo of WIND - an italian cell phone carrier.

It looked like the white jerseys were specially made just for the night, since they had the “80 years” shield instead of the ASRoma one. Also, the red ones look better with smaller embroidered Kappa logos on the shoulders rather than the bigger printed ones on the white jerseys. Does anyone else think though that the Coppa Italia shield should be reversed with the green on the outside? I don’t think it stands out too well on the red jersey the way it is now (red outside). See this pic of this old jersey (Adidas + Barilla, those where the days…)

There’s problems with the Wind transaction. Roma and Wind have supposedly reached a deal, but Roma seems to have a few ties with Tim, another mobile phone carrier, and that’s blocking the closure of the deal.
I hope they come to terms, we need sponsor money, and the wind logo wouldn’t look bad, especially on the away jerseys.Posted from

Why not leave the spqr, bet everyone in Rome would buy it if the jersey had that.

Chris I agree with you regarding the SPQR on the jersey. It would be unique and appropriate for the club. Quite frankly, I like the fact that we don’t have a sponsor (I don’t usually mind them though). I am dissapointed in the design though. I think it’s just a bit too simple and preferred what Diadora had done for us in years past. Hopefully the CL shirts will be nicer.

I wonder if there would be problems with using SPQR on the official jersey since it’s also part of the City of Rome Municipality Shield, maybe there would be legal issues, I don’t know… Honestly, I don’t know why they didn’t do it a long time ago! I mean, we already use the she-wolf with the twins, don’t we? And the country cousins already use the Emperial Eagle (even though they are not even from Rome…)

The new kits don’t look that much different from last years. I still like them though. Also, I agree with Jamil. The jerseys should stay clean, no sponsor, or just have the SPQR on them. All I hope for though is that Kappa jerseys will be a lot easier to get then the Diadora ones.

with our marketing geniuses in charge, they’ll be expensive and tough to get. I don’t work for these guys but they seem to get their hands on everything.
http://www.subsidesports.com or subside.co.uk
cheaper rate given to North Americans given the exchange rate, or at least this was the case last year. Just click on the north american site…

Yeah Jamil I used that site to get a hold of last years jersey. Although they do sell out of their stock really quickly. Might have something to do with their low stock to begin with.

The new Kappa line is just plain too simple for a great team like Roma. Diadora has always had the best looking
Jerseys, away or home, making the team look professional and classic. Kappa makes Roma look second rate, belonging to a lower class soccer division, like Seria “C”…….TOO BAD.!!!!Posted from

I Love the fact that Kappa is returning to do the Roma kit. I thought their nice, simple retro design with the streamlined, tight fit back around 2000 and 2001 were the best since Adidas/Barilla. (And by the way, is there any way we can petition Adidas Originals to re-issue those?)
It’s funny, some people prefer the Diadora. I didn’t like those at all and didn’t buy any of them. I htought they had weird stripes and were just too busy with various swirves and curves. Meanwhile I have about 8 versions of the Kappa Roma from 2000.
That said, I almost think it is a little too plain without a sponser. I am torn becuase I’m getting a little sick of all the commerce in football, but there does to be something missing without a sponsor now. I agree with the previous thoughts on SPQR. Even ASROMA.COM would like kind of cool. (They did that once about 4 or 5 years ago here at a friendly in New York). And yes, Barilla would be the coolest.
Anyway, continue to share our thoughts. –Michael
