Roma 4-0 Parma, Romacambolesque !
By: Marco Stucazzo | March 1st, 2008Roma – Parma
This 4-0 win has to be a good moral boost for the boys before the Midweek trip to Madrid. Nice Goals scored by Aquilani, Totti and Vucinic + a Giulio Falcone gift. All of that without Juan and DDR, probably our most consistent performers all year. ( A part from the consistent crappiness of the DP)
Unfortunately for Serie A fans, this excellent display (from a Roman point view) was sandwiched between Roma’s 2 most important matches of the season so far. A very convincing display tonight by Roma.
See what happens when you start Aquilani and Cicinho from the get go Spal!?
This game couldn’t have had a better scenario if I had written it myself. No injuries, no one had to run like crazy, no fatigue issue, successful turnover, hell even the unorthodox Panucci- Ferrari partnership was stellar. This is how Roma should always fare against the smaller teams; Close it out early and then give the fringe players some room to grow. Today we had the chance to see V. – Itunes- Antunes , a solid Matteo Brighi, Panucci as a CB and Mauro –I flicked it to Totti- Esposito. All that, without a single David Pizarro spotting all day. This is exactly what should happen when Roma face the basement boys. Close it up early and play the kids.(I can’t wait to see Okaka Chuka (as Chris would say, The next Drogba) wreaking havoc in Serie A. I just hope we get to witness Totti and him together a couple of times before the Chosen one hangs up the boots)

Yellows : Gasbarroni (P), Aquilani (R), Castellini (P), Rossi (P), Dessena (P)
Disorganised thoughts :
I love how Vucinic just poached that goal at the end amidst the 5 parma players around him. Those poaching instincts are exactly what Luciano Spalletti isn’t exploiting. This goal and the one against Lazio aren’t his sexiest, but this is exactly the type of scrap goals I expect to get from Vucinic. Leave the Fanciness to Jesus and Mancini.
Aquilani ‘s looking cranky. I didn’t quite understand the pouting after his goal. Must be that missed Inter goal that’s stuck in his head. At least e demonstrated why Chris hates DP so much.
Nice flick by Esposito on the Totti. I still hope he won’t be in a Roma shirt next season.
I like Antunes but I the kid needs some more playing time. A la Alè Rosi, Cerci and Okaka. I can’t wait to see tat Famous left foot Bruno Conti has been talking about. Oh here it is
Cristiano Lucarelli should have gone back to Livorno
Molson Ex, 3 stars of the match
Everybody played well, but i don’t have the patience to rate everybody.
Cicinho : I love seeing the little man get up and down the right flank. Go hard at the net, then comeback on defence. This guy’s quick! 2 goals came off of his crosses in the box.
By far my favourite non Roman player on the Squad.
Brighi : Solid vice DDR. Matteo Brighi doesn’t get enough credit. I love the fact that you don’t see him for a couple of months and then when you do: he plays solidly like he did today. Matteo is clearly not the most talented of players, but he’s smart and knows how to play to his limitations. The only giallorosso who manages to fill a minuscule part of DDR’s gigantic shoes. .
Totti : Jesus put his black shoes on and got all 2001 on us, must have been because facing Parma re-brewed some memories form Scudetto past. Beautiful goal, great dummies, flicks , passes, aho’s and a little bit of brotherly arguing with Aquilani.
Bring on Real Madrid and Forza Napoli !!!

I hope Robben is out. He was easily the best guy on Real last time and the one that caused us the most trouble. If both him and RVN are out of the clash and we play like we did today…

Robinho is back.. scored 2 goals.. he’s our main thread wednesday!

Vucinic might not yet show his best for Roma, but his instinct from the Lecce days is clearly visible. Most of his goals this season show he’s a really good finisher.
Charles: What is ‘quel paese’?

Dolita, “mandato a quel paese” is the Italian way of saying “F*CK OFF!”. kind’ve like what Ferdinand Coly did to Parma coach Di Carlo when he was subbed off.

Much better today from our Giallorossi!!! See what happens when Totti is able to play from positions deeper in the midfield!! He’s one of the greatest trequartista’s ever, but Spalletti cannot get it through that bald skull!! No Robben or Van Nistelroy for Madrid!!
We have a shot!! LIPPI + Roma = Scudetto!!Posted from

there should be nothing to worry about with regards to totti and aqui. nothing. its the typical roman temperment – both are made of tinfoil…they heat up fast but cool down fast too.
also, did everyone notice how panucci was the first to come over and congratulate aquialani after his goal with a big bear hug? good to see. that was some great determination on aquilani’s part to thread his way up the midfield and dish off that pass before swallowing up the rebound. totti was in another world today.
let’s go conquer iberia, boys! forza roma!

Don’t be worried. Spalletti will kick Aquilani and Cicinho out of team and Roma will get throttled in Bernabeau.

Aquilani is an angry young man. I still can’t get over his reaction to scoring, a non-reaction and semi-protest.
Nice one Spalletti, way 2 nourish the brightest young talent in all of Italia.Posted from

finally we hand out a beat down.
looks like pizzaro is gettin the start against madrid. wtf is wrong with spaletti i like the guy but he doesnt’ listen to commen sence. why?

Roman Bliiss.
I Lupi were just about perfect today. I was worried how we’d respond after the Inter draw, which felt more like a loss. The team’s answer today was more than I could have imagined. The build-up, as always was there, but the finish, so crticial, finally came in waves too.
Yes, it was “only” Parma. But Parma had Inter down and should have won, and they also drew Milan. So despite their low point total they are not a pushover.
This was just the kind of confidence-building performance we needed before the trip to the Bernebeau.
FORZA ROMA!Posted from

PS: How sweet was the Totti goal? It was an absolute perfect team goal. Cicinho cutting back to Esposito, Esposito back-heeling it to Totti, and Totti launching an agrainst-the-grain 20-plus meter cracker!

Well I saw the highlights was working and couldn’t see the game, but it was good to see a consistent Roma. They need to bring this exact game to Madrid, because Real will be going all out.

Italians are football crazy. Ultimate proof of their obsession is Il Romanista, a newspaper that writes about only one thing: football club AS Roma. Niche titles like Il Romanista are prospering nicely in the country’s media landscape.
SPORTS NEWSPAPER Corriere dello Sport holds the Italian record for most copies sold in a single day. On 12 July 1982 – the day after Italy won the World Cup in Spain – no fewer than 1.8 million copies were snapped up. Proof, if any were needed, that football is the true engine of Italian journalism. Since Italians started swapping attendance at Sunday mass for standing on the terraces of the local football stadium, a cluster of media cathedrals has risen up around the sport. Top teams like Inter, AC Milan and AS Roma have their own TV channels.
For years the pink Gazzetta dello Sport has been by far the country’s best-selling newspaper, outshining mainstream dailies like La Repubblica and Corriere della Sera. Gazetta pink is the colour on the cyclists’ jerseys in the famous Giro d’Italia and the title sells more than 400,000 copies every day. Reflecting this trend, football journalism is becoming increasingly niched. Roma now has its own daily newspaper, Il Romanista, with a seven-person editorial department in central Rome – the club’s heartland.
“We have a large and very passionate mass of supporters in a well-defined geographical area, so sales are good,” says editor Riccardo Luna.
Diehard fans Il Romanista sells 7,000 to 8,000 copies on Rome’s newsstands and is read daily by more than 20,000 people around the world. All the reporters are diehard
Roma fans and the atmosphere in the editorial office reflects the team’s current form, veering from ecstasy to gloom depending on results.“Sometimes on Mondays no one wants to work if the team’s done badly at the weekend,” Luna says. “And on match days it’s impossible to sit still and write because everyone’s standing at their desks screaming and shouting.”
The greatest day in the newspaper’s two-year history was 26 October 2005, when Roma beat Inter in the Italian championship, sparking wild celebrations in the editorial office.
“When the team’s not doing so well it’s important to motivate the journalists and the readers. There’s a strong loyalty to the club and everyone knows we just have to carry on doing our job,” Luna explains.
Il Romanista also owns Tutta la Vita, a daily radio show, and broadcasts a 40-minute prime time TV programme on the Roma 1 channel every evening. This offers viewers expert analysis, replays of the latest goals and in-depth coverage of the team’s training sessions.
It might seem strange to fill an entire newspaper with team news, but Luna says there’s always plenty of material.
“We cover the players’ form and injuries, how things are going for other teams in the league and we also publish match analyses.”
Coverage of what the club’s supporters are up to is also important, and can vary from club-related parties to match-day activities and fans’ opinions. Il Romanista comes from the fans’ ranks and is not afraid to speak its mind.
Debate on a change of ownership at the club has attracted headlines.
“We’re running a campaign to show that Rosella Sensi is not a good owner,” says Luna. “Our articles reflect the criticism among the supporters. We add our analysis and stimulate the debate.”
The Sensi family has extensive business interests in the hotel and oil refining industries, as well as owning part of Rome airport. They invested heavily in new players to help Roma compete against top clubs Inter, Juventus and Milan, but after one good season the
team’s form has gone from bad to worse and the Sensis have been haemorrhaging money. The supporters know that Rosella Sensi can no longer afford to buy top players and many want her to sell the team to its more than 100,000 supporters, just as Spanish giants Real Madrid did.
“The financial backers of Il Romanista are 49 independent shareholders who all share a passion for the club. They don’t interfere in the editorial side,” Luna asserts. “We don’t censor anything. We allow different viewpoints to come together in our letters and news pages and encourage readers to make their opinions felt.”
According to its editor, Il Romanista steers clear of gossip and the celebrity culture, though interviews with players’ wives are popular in Italian football jour-
nalism.“We wrote about Totti when he got married and had children. So many people were interested in it. But that’s where we draw the line. We don’t get involved in speculating about new girlfriends.”
Instead Il Romanista covers topics like striker Shabani Nondas’ knee operation, with a report from the clinic where he’s being treated. And coach Luciano Spalletti gives his thoughts about the World Cup draw in an in-depth interview. The paper also contributes to the local community, helping to raise funds for an ambulance for the emergency organisation SOS.
Running a newspaper focused on a single issue is in tune with today’s media Society, Luna believes. He sees information being increasingly targeted directly at consumers – and in increasingly specific formats.
Other major Italian clubs Juventus and Inter may be extremely popular but their supporters are spread all over Italy, which makes distribution problematic.
Thanks to its geographical concentration of fans, Roma is the only Italian team capable of sustaining a title of its own.

I don’t know what I think of Madrid’s performance today.. They’ve been very poor lately and they needed a late, late winner to beat a team 3rd from the bottom who were playing a man down (it was 9 vs 10) when the score was at 1-1. The bad news is that Robinho seems to be playing well and Schuster will probably unleash a Robben, Raul, Robinho forward line.

Bashar.. we should fear that indeed..
Especially Robinho who scored 2 goals..Can’t he stay injured or what

Nice, whenever I miss the game they seem to go bananas. I suspect this is David Pizarro’s fault.

Robben I heard is injured and as someone else pointed out on this site RvN, Guti, Ramos, Drenthe, and possibly Sneijder are out. I’m not so sure about the Drenthe and Sneijder rumors (seeing as Drenthe played yesterday). What’s interesting is that Pepe didn’t play so he might not be ready yet. No clue about Heinze but I read he was injured too. This is all too ridiculous. I’ll bet every one of those players plays.. haha
Posted from
United States

-

My bad.. Drenthe came off and Pepe came on so Pepe might be ready and Drenthe might have gotten hurt. And Heinze played so he’s fine too.
Btw.. Robinho is good, but common.. it was a 10 man Recreativo that he drove insane. against an eleven man Roma he’ll be as effective as Robben was.. Which is still not good for us.

Robinho is world class and can tear apart any defense on his day. Regardless, if we score an early goal or two we should be alright. I’m very cautiously optimistic about this matchup. We are starting to peak, and Real is currently in a decline, hopefully this continues through at least thursday

Great to see our boys strike hard against Parma. I was checking the Parma Blog before the game and I had to keep looking at the background color because they were loading the praises on our beloved giallorossi. Gracious in defeat, class. Anyhow, seems our scudetto race is back on which means games like this Parma thrashing have meaning! I honestly wouldn’t be upset if Real didn’t come up with RVN or Robben but to paraphrase Er Pupone, We want to beat the best team Real can put on the pitch.
