Yes, to hope for 4th place is/should be the players aim. anything more would be a dream, but lets be realistic.

to tell you the truth, 4 th place would actually be pretty good for our team. Personally i’d rather be 4th than 2nd because then it forces us to get in match fitness form from the start of the season because of cl qualifiers.

Pauly I think my point and others here is that we haven’t played any low level competition b/c the fact is we were at the bottom of the table.

Pauly: You have no Cluj!

CUCS- I remind you this word (I mean cl…) is forbidden here
Do not use it, otherwise Chris is gonna slap you.BTW BAD NEWS (I know it’s goal.com)
“A number of Roma fans who travelled to Lecce to see there side win 3-0 were arrested by Police for looting after they stole a number of items* from a service station on their way to the game. The youngsters who are all between 21 and 27 years old were captured by the authorities after they were caught on camera at the Canne Della Battaglia petrol staion near Bari.”
*any guesses what that could be? Bulbs?

They stole for 20 euros?

I’m not surprised, I’m from Poland. All things get stolen here- toilet paper, cables, rails

One day my sister was travelling by train and her train was delayed 1 hour, because someone had stolen the cables.
One day I got off at my bus stop only to discover that everything (bus shelter, bus sign, only the wooden bench remained intact) was stolen- probably for scrap.Posted from

The same went in certain areas in Boston when I lived there. Some jackass ran off with my 3 year old sister’s bike. It’s pretty funny to see someone running away from a guy and his dog holding a bike as opposed to riding it.
Are these actually Roma fans or just people that Roma are held accountable for?

I have to say that almost every single word posted by maro is dead on.
Guys, often times many of us here (I am guilty of this too) go into posting frenzies with our emotions first instead of our brains. Now, in saying so, I don’t disagree with some like Bashar who dislike Riise. I do not think he is such a bad player as many say, but I would have much rather preferred the other options we could have explored for that LB spot.
In say this, I loved this line because it was so accurate and is something that I have said a few times when discussing calcio and Roma with my peers:
Menez has looked hopelessly out of his depth at times this season – his decision-making isn’t accurate and his movement is ordinary. He is not the finished product. We won yesterday in part because of what Taddei brought to the table, just as we won against Lazio to no small degree because of what Perrotta brought to the table. Spags has taken players like Doni, Mexes, De Rossi, Vucinic, Taddei, Perrotta, Cassetti, Tonetto, to a new level. If that’s your idea of talent killing you’re welcome to it.

Menez can do all the work leading up to the last little bit of the field and then he falls apart. He hesitates, looks lost and lacks the decisive confidence and mindset to kill off a run. This is why Spalletti is holding him back but giving him a taste of playing time.

Menez is also 21. A technical phenomenon, but nine times out of ten the other aspects of a complete player take many moons.

And yes, maro really knows his shit. Though whether he knows his calcio is another discussion entirely, I suppose.

Once again, those players have been taking to “the new level” through a small, step-by-step process. These players had it in them, and slowly, their qualities were developed. Nothing major for most of them, except DDR and Mexes…they are true Superstars. Vuci, he varies and he goes up and down, but still great most of the time.
I admire the opposite of that slow process, the one where you know someone has it, and you put him/her to the test right away, so that the greatness or that talent is developed faster. These players pay for their dividens right away.
You have the (1) slow moving process, and then, you have the (2) quick I’m going to give you a chance, you show-me-what you have process.
I would rather see Menez and Okaka develop like the Zerates of the world. If you guys are content with the Spal process, where you will see menez and Okaka ripe and ready in 3-4 years, than let’s keep grinding out the Taddei’s and the Doni’s and Perrotta’s of Calcio. But I wonder, outside of our little circle in Serie A, how good are these players? Are these players top-notch, world-class, well-known, desired superstars? I doubt.
That is the big argument. You guys like (1), and I like (2). Oh well, life goes on…….

“I would rather see Menez and Okaka develop like the Zerates of the world.”
Lazio doesn’t play a system like Roma, dependent on more intelligent, complete play. Apples and bananas.
Everything is relative. Taking a player and dropping him in one system won’t reap the same short nor long term rewards should you drop him in another.

Pauly my problem with (2) is: What if you choose your trial by fire procedure and the young kid can’t handle it. Yes, he may have the raw talent but mentally can’t handle the pressure or any number of other problems. Then he gets run out of town and becomes great for another club. I am not saying it would happen but rather it could happen. I don’t know much about calcio history on what works better but the one analogy I could make is in the NFL you almost never start a rookie quarterback. They need time to get used to a new faster league and the new system you are playing in. There are exceptions but I feel the slow process is safer.
But most importantly you must prove yourself in training before you are given a shot in the starting XI. And that is one area we have no Knowledge of.

That’s true Chris, very true. I would just like to see young players given more of a chance, and in the system that Spal has created, that will not happen. Its a slow grinding, hard to learn, you must take your time to adjust process……

Chris, Your comment about Maro almost made me laugh out loud in class.

Cucs: Its a different game. In the NFL you have rookie players. just like NBA, that shine immediately, from LB’s to CB’s to DE’s to OL men, etc. Yes, the quarteback position is entirely different, but it has happened where rookies have excelled right off the bat.

I didn’t say rookies couldn’t be good from the start but rather it can be a risk just inserting them into the lineup for the sake of playing time. You must earn the full 90 minutes and not just given to you b/c you are a talented 20 year old.

chris, no doubt Menez will come ways and be a great player, but I was just commenting on now. I was happier with his signing than any of the others this mercato.

Pauly, take a look at Domenico Criscito. He’s your #2 option. For all the Zarate’s in the world, there’s a thousand who didn’t cut it.

Defender v attacker makes a big difference.

We should really just start judging our mercato’s signings right now and forget all of their past games. You really can’t ask for new players to play well in a new system WHILE THE ORIGINAL PLAYERS WERE ALSO PLAYING LIKE CRAP. Now that there is actually a friendly environment around the team with some confidence, they should play more like themselves. That is the main reason why I like baptista. He played above average for a new signing who was also placed on a team that WAS playing like crap.

Only in the timeframe. A useless attacker will be benched soon enough, if there’s no improvement.

maro, sorry to say but the home jersey of this season doesn’t cut it for me. don’t like those orange stripes. I got all jerseys from last year, got the one from 2000-2001 and had the blue one plus the orange/maroon one from the champ league. black and blue or white and black i’ll never wear in my life. oh and the black one from this year i don’t like either with the kappa logo all over the sleeves. too much. ordered the gk one.
