Reopening Old Wounds.

Roma v Livorno

Oh Livorno, how we have not missed thee.

Back in the day, the last time Livorno was found clawing for its topflight life in October, ultimately failing, they were bastards. Absolute bastards. How dare they not roll over for Roma. How dare they unleash the most incredible team bus known to man and buses. How dare they injure Sir Francesco. How dare Marco Amelia act a…gasp…true professional.

How quintessentially Roma was the scene at the end of the last Roma – Livorno fixture? Marco Amelia, the Roman son shunned by management only to turn into a quality player, apologizing to the Roma fans – his fans, his brethren – for having done his job, in the process leaving Roma’s scudetto hopes in tatters. A Romanista landing the Roman deathblow. How goddamn ‘Roma’.

This is quite the downer just flipping back in the scrapbook, really. Moving on…

I lied. I cannot move on. That was arguably the most crushing blow in recent Roman history; I dare say the worst loss under the Spalletti regime – and it was a draw, for fuck’s sake. Old Trafford? Please. They left with their pride in tatters but limbs and souls intact. This life questioning, suicide inducing, soul shattering draw took away two precious, priceless points and, more importantly, it took away our Francesco Totti. It took the Roman lifeblood, the heartbeat of our fair Roma, and rendered it a spectator. Taken to task by, of all people, a player who in that previous season with the capital’s red and had been that same useless spectator, only without injury, and a Roman son, making one heroic save after another.

To this day, it haunts Roma. Livorno haunts Roma, and they shall never be forgiven.

For Francesco Totti; for Luciano Spalletti; for Ludovic Giuly; for Alberto Aquilani; for Christian Panucci; for Alessandro Faiolhe Amantino Mancini:

Off with their heads.

They removed a part of his meniscus. Shouldn’t take too long before he’s back. Not more than a month.

I predict we won’t see Totti backuntil begin december, and I’m being very optimistic right now

if he or the staff rush things, then he might as well retire for gods sake, let the man FULLY heal instead of breaking his knee in half

apparently totti has already had surgery. We r in shit. I think its time that Roma at least trys to find the next totti in the youth team. Menez, Vucinic, and Baptista can not replace him. Why must we suffer :(

Quote “They removed a part of his meniscus. Shouldn’t take too long before he’s back. Not more than a month.”

Well said ragazzo! According to Vito Scala “I tempi di recupero? E’ troppo presto per dirlo ma dipenderà molto dall’impegno del giocatore e voi conoscete bene Totti sotto questo punto di vista…”

It now depends on totti’s body and healing process to find out how much he will be out. I predict that it wont be much than what some of you might fear.

In addition, it was said that “[Totti] sta bene, stasera torna a casa e domani mattina comincerà a lavorare con fisioterapia a Trigoria. Il recupero? Verrà stabilito dallo staff medico che lo segue….mi auguro che non ci saranno altri problemi”.

Trust me, based on how Totti recuperates, it will be weeks, but not months. Let’s hope for his quick and safe recovery.

We don’t need Totti to beat Livorno we need a coach with brain.

Spalletti lost started to loose it after 2-2.5 years

    Ranieri after 1-1.5 months

    Next…

We cannto blame Ranieri for the loss, he made the right changes and his tactics created enough chances on goal but Perrotta and Vucinic could not finish them off…

Menez has the magic, he just needs more support in attack… I think that Goober as a winger and Menez as a striker supporting Vucinic on a free role would be amazing…

also, Baptista had a good game, nearly scored on an amazing freekick and showed HUNGER! he needs to start another game with Menez on the wing and Vucinic up front, he played all along the middle and played very well, he was a real threat… I hope he starts next game…

Until Roma have another hard-ass coach like Capello with extreme discipline, the laid back roman life will always effect the players that is a fact. Roma is the most beautiful place on earth for me, but its not a place where a football player can or will be respectful 100% to the club. The players are bigger than rockstars in Roma. In the North that is NOT tolerated at the big clubs. Even if the player is famous. Ancelotti could be the right fix. He has the experience in both places.

maybe this team has to start with the 4 2 3 1 again
no strange/untested things but just the way players know it and worked for a very long time, they just need to find themselves and team chemistry back
rememeber there was a time nearly everyone scored on our sheet? defenders, wingers,CM…
now Ranieri says our gunpowder is running dry, wtf!

Speaking of reopening old wounds, Totti had his knee operated on again today.

If he’s back in 30 days like they’re predicting, he’ll be back just in time for the derby on December 6.

These quick recoveries have only hindered him. I understand that Totti is the smokescreen against all that is wrong with this club, but if he rushes back (again) it will only prolong things. The man needs to rest, and management needs to have the balls to tell him to stay home. Totti hasn’t been healthy for a long time because he keeps rushing back from epic surgeries because he is restless.

Only a miniscus? Clearly you’re not familiar with how epic the removal of part of the cushion for the knee joint is. Not only is the healing process not quick, but it also means the joint is more fragile. Cortisone is not the answer to everything.

Yes, I am. Had a meniscus and cartilage operation last year. You often see players return after a meniscus operation after 2-3 weeks, so a month should be enough to recover.

Agreed that Totti must take the full time, and more, to recover. We may well be looking at next season for a fully fit player. In the meanwhile, this team is mid table or a tad better. This mean no CL and no CL money to bandage the bleeding. Montali looks like a great addition. He has performed miracles before and hopefully he will do it again despite the wretched state of Roma’s affairs. Rosie will not sell unless she is forced so the only solution is the stadium and Montali rescuing. This team is not far from being a contender so we must hope and pray that pieces such as Menez, Vucinic, Juan, Mexes and DDR play to their full potential. There is also talented youth on the team and the primavera side. All we can do is wait and see what develops. Losing Spal was a heavy blow but Ranieri might patch things up well enough that we still derive some satisfaction this season.
