Random Mercato Thought
By: chris | March 25th, 2008In the middle of writing up a mercato wrap up which is taking a bit (I suppose that’s a good thing for Roma), and I’m going to finish up in the morning. But I had a random thought which may or may not be completely wrong; or it may be halfway to somewhere which isn’t quite intelligent but at least in that direction. So I’m just going to offer up this little nugget for discussion then run behind the shed while shit starts flying:
One of the spots that Roma needs goals from is trequartista. Simone is a whole lot of wonderful things, but a finisher ain’t one of ‘em (though he’s shown some improvement as of late - if that’s what you want to call goals in back-to-back games recently). Sticking with the 4-2-3-1 formation, his is the most likely spot (with Mirko, Mancini, Lulu & Rodrigo forming a nice little foursome on the wings at least for the next year, unless Amantino is sold) to add a different look type of player; someone who adds a different angle. There’s a guy who scores goals, not to mention being a world class creative influence, way up north on the continent who has recently had a falling out with a team which is going to see a very rocky summer - including installing a revolving door at the entrance of their locker room - even if he sticks around. The smart money is that he wants out and will get out this summer. A few months back, he said this:
“However I hope to have the opportunity to play in Italy one day where the football is very famous. I follow all the Serie A teams and I particularly like Roma because they play some exciting football. They are one of the best teams in Europe.”
The team is Werder Bremen, the name is Diego.

Aimari Saviola and Cavenaghi all would be great but Im not sure we wanna destroy the brazilian flow jaja
Saviola would be my choice for next year if we don’t get Mutu, at the world cup he played brilliantly in a wide position, he is just an amazing player and I would make him our immediate starter and help grow our midget population!

ur right chris if roma got diego our system would be perfect. solid play maker and goal scorer. do u really think we stand a change financialy tho? maybe if the americans bought the team?
saviola would make our team too small for set peaces plus i feel we already got our saviola type in giuly. i dont see him as a worth while contribution.

I dunno about the finances. It would take at least 25m, which Roma could probably do, but that’d be it for the market. It really depends on CL money. The further they go, the more they get.
And I’d put his chances at coming to Rome at around 2%, but it’s fun to think about.

Naah.. He wasn’t in the squad. He is healthy though and he’s at Vicenza now.. I can’t wait till he breaks through and becomes like Nesta (except without the crappy Lazio stint)

Totti hurt his knee.. It doesn’t seem to be too bad but it’s worrying non-the-less.. We may have to play Taddei/Giuly as a striker if he can’t make the Cagliari game. Juan is also hurt. I hope nobody gets hurt on international duty.

Vieri, hah
I’d like to have him on the squad just for the hell of it

Deco is not too happy at Barca and they might be willing to let him go for like 10 million or so. If we can sign him and a striker, LB (Mathieu, Vargas) we should be fine. That will be 30-50 million depending.

Deco will ask like what Totti is earning. No way Roma gonna cough that up.

Robbie, I love the concept of Toni returning to Italy to wear giallo e rosso, but Bayern’s busy figuring out which striker to dump of their big three (Toni, Klose, Podolski), and it ain’t gonna be either of the big two they just dropped mad cash on.
We couldn’t afford Podolski, let alone Toni, especially since his current season in the Bundesliga is upping his pricetag with every goal he scores.
Gabriela, I agree about Crespo. He’s too old, and his flop was instrumental during the Inter game. Plus, he used to play for Chelsea. Tainted goods.
I’m betting on a Barcelona fire sale. These last few months will be the last time you’re going to see a lot of that squad together, and Barca’s D is probably going to get dismantled before any of the forwards will. Deco would be a wonderful addition, and Zambrotta’s probably getting out after this season.
I’ll refrain from getting any more goosebumpy and return to work.

I keep on misreading “centenary” to “cemetery” on Inter webpages … must be my subconscious mind playin silly tricks

Crespo also played for Lazio.. But rumor has it that his wife is a Romanista so she could get him to play his best for us perhaps? He is too old, but he will also be on a free (correct me if im wrong). His loan from Chelsea to Inter expires this summer (as does his contract with Chelsea) and I didn’t hear anything about him signing a contract with Inter.

Again, after that Inter game, fuck Crespo.

Diego would be prefect, he could be Roma present Falco.

Ok, going off on a tangent here– but wht is the deal with Riquelme? Why isnt his name in any of the transfer rumors in serie a?..widely accepted as the best argentinian player in a while, age 29, playing great for boca juniors on loan..what am i missing?

He’s said many times over that he doesn’t want his children growing up in a country where they don’t speak Spanish. Which I suppose begs the question why not Inter?
