Poll: Goal of the Season
By: chris | May 27th, 2008For me, it’s easy. Mirko Vucinic’s turn against Genoa was great. And I don’t mean just great. I mean all-time great. It’s a goal that may take a bit of time to sink in, but that was unbelievable. On a scale of likelihood from 1-10, that goal rates somewhere around -37. And as last year’s goal of the year was a similarly improbable left footed shot (Totti against Samp, of course), I feel a trend coming from the Romans. Next year’s goal of the year will be Daniele De Rossi with a cucchiaio from near the half on his left. You heard it here first.
But in order to properly coronate Mirko, there needs to be a poll. And it’s not as though there’s no competition. Without further ado…..
Totti v Catania
The Team Picture v Dinamo
Amantino Cucchiaio v Fiorentina
Mirko Slalom v Sporting
Totti v Parma
Mirko v Genoa
Mirko v Catania
Cassetti v Sporting
Mexes v Inter

Chris has a point, but still… why should the Super Coppa be played in Italy? unless it were a two match tie I see no reason to play it in Italy… just like the champions league, Ufe and world clup championship…

I heard about the Aquilani with Nike rumour but havent seen the ad and cannot find it

Maybe they debuted the Aquilani ad at the game then. Unfortunately I’m not great on the exact details because there were a few other things taking my attention that night! I’ve looked for it online and can’t find it.
Anyway, a few details for those interested. It’s kind of a similar idea to the one they did with Materazzi last year except it’s about the power of Aquilani’s kicks, so they have a few tasks for him. One of them is kicking the ball through a tv that’s on a table. The last one is something to do with a wedding cake and tbh I’d want to see that again as I didn’t quite ‘get it’!

Well, ordeal, all those tournaments are still played in the respective regions they represent. CL and UEFA in Europe and World Cup in, well, the world.

Without football and all business we have the EPL minus Arsenal chris, to follow up your response to my response of your post. I’m not crazy about it, don’t get me wrong, but people aren’t concerned about the quality of their football in most cases. They are worried about dollar signs.

The priorities are all fucked up when money has a hand in anything, but you appear to be sticking to ideals while I’m just stating the ways of the world.

And what’s wrong with aspiring to be better than everyone else? Roma seems to be doing it without megabucks now, aren’t they? Isn’t there a sense of satisfaction that will be lost the first time Sorass or Taccoditaco writes that big, fat check for a player who may or may not take the team to heights it could achieve anyway?
I don’t think it’s ideals when it’s happening now. It appears to simply be reality.

world cup I mean, the club wourld cup…
Supper Coppa is not that big of a deal anyways… and it could generate more press and money for Italian sides

we cannot talk about Roma without mentioning money. There is a huge debt attached to IP and it does effect the club and will do so for the foreseeable future if somehow this takeover doesnt happen. I’d rather have a fat cheque for the current Ronaldinho then selling Mexes and Vucinic because we have to pay off debts … because let’s be realistic this is what the future looks like.
If there were no debts and a competent management I would not care for a takeover or new ownership whatsoever

Chris.
My argument is this.
If it was in Buenos Aires I wouldnt give two shits.
I would get up watch it on my computer with my jersey and sing along.
But the chance to see mia Roma live.
Well I will argue to the death!!
lets drop it.
Cazz see you at the Taco rally in 2 hours?

I second with Gabs.
We let go off Samuel for the same reason.I dont want to see Mexes or Vuci or lets say things get way too tough and the board has to let go Aqui. Then we are in deep shit cause no team can afford to let go off their stars to cover those debts , then we will end up being a mid-table team while Juve, Inter , Milan and now the likes of Fiorentina end up spending big and taking the honours @ end of the season.

So jumping at Soros and his cronies – a group wholly unqualified to be running a world class football club – is the right answer?
They can do much better than Soros. Rushing into a sale isn’t the answer. Putting it on the market for awhile is.

heheheh, ahh yes the contrarian banging on his drum. Chris, aren’t you a BoSox fan???, what gives man? you should more than anyone on this board embrace this sale to Soros??? now i lupi will at least have a fighting chance to match your venerable BoSox, & not just on payroll. . . but perhaps on the pitch – maybe even spark a revival reminiscent of what your Sox have accomplished in results on the field and creating interest amongst the sport that there is another team to challenge other than the Yankees. Unfortunately we need to put down the rose colored glasses and realize that ”the game” is a business (even in Italy) and just like everything else, there are no games unless there is money. sure, the jury will be out as for long term plans, but I would not throw Soros “& his cronies” under the bus, just yet. Ciao.

And the fact that I was born in Boston has what exactly to do with anything?

>AS Roma, the world-renown soccer club of Rome, Italy.
note the article says “The” and not “a”

First of all, no, there won’t be a sense of satisfaction lost because the only scudetto they’ve won in my lifetime was the result of the spending you’re condemning. That spending also screwed us for a couple of years afterward. It’s nice to hang around with the big spenders and say we are getting more bang for our buck, but we haven’t won the prized trophy under those conditions. We are achieving more than we have in the past right now, but we still aren’t winning hardware. We brag about contention in competitions, but what is contention worth when you come up short?
I also find it hard to believe that any Bourgeoisie can relate totally to the proletariat that Roma is meant to represent. Sensi or Soros makes no difference to me. They are both not what Roma is about. We have totally meandered off the course of what this Supercoppa being played in NY is about. Globalization, it is happening, and people that don’t take advantage are left in the dust.

Chris.. the thing is.. There is nothing any of us can do regarding this.. All we can do is hope for the best and put our faith in Conti, Prade and Rosella (if she stays).
The way its looking, Tacopina wants Roma and will be making all the decisions. Soros is his sugar daddy, but I don’t see Soros getting hands on without Tacopina consulting him.

So zach, it’s win yesterday or say goodbye to the ownership? That seems a bit harsh. People are so quick to throw the blatant progression out the window.

And for the umpteenth time, I’m not against the sale of ownership. I’m just for the right ownership. This is not something you can fuck up and fix easily.

I didn’t know that you are a Boston native, my apologies
However, from reading Offside I have picked up on that you are a Red Sox fan, hence the paralell. That’s it mayn. . . your standing on a pretty weak argument as for being against this new society because it isn’t the right ‘ownership’??? pfft, this prospective owner will basically wipe Sensi’s debt clean and pay good value for the club. They should be all over themselves to do this deal. Quite frankly there aren’t too many Italian owners that can pull this off, & we both collectively could count who they are on two hands if they were to step up.

Being anti-anything to do with Soros is hardly a weak argument.

Otay. So . . . you are anti Soros because . . . he’s a capitalist? ? ?

A few thoughts: The Mirko v Genoa goal was amazing but my favorite was the Mexes vs. Inter goal, probably only because it was the most underrated central defender in the world giving us the Copa against Inter. I voted for the team goal because it definitely reflects Roma’s season and what Roma stands for. There are no divas on the team, everyone plays hard and plays to win. Nothing is taken for granted from this team.
I agree with Chris about the Soros deal somewhat. It’s definitely good to have an injection of cash, no matter what you do. The good thing about having loads and loads of capital at our disposal is to keep the players we have. We won’t be a stepping stone to other Italian (or English or Spanish clubs). I don’t think Soros is going to go out and buy the Scudetto though.
