I have to disagree. He is not a bad player and of course I agree that there are two sides of the ball and he lacks on defense, but that is what De Rossi is for and being that Roma is one of the smallest of the “Big clubs” we need depth as well. Especially with the schedule including Champions League and the Defense of Coppa Italia. Aquilaninho will definitely get his share of play time and will not hurt his development whatsoever.

Thirdly, I agree with another fan of yours who said you need to copyright “roman clusterfuck”. I use your saying all the time, though I can’t really find a good translation to use when I am speaking ITalian. I would like to propose that you add “Aquilaninho” to the copyright as well!

Last of all, on tuttosport they are reporting a new scandal “Calciopoli DUE” that Inter may have to give up the scudetto that they took from JUVE (that would then become ours…FORZA ROMA) and or they could be relegated to B. That would be Awesome.

I also disagree Pizarro’s that bad at defeinding. Sure this is not his greatest strenght, but he works a lot in defence, positions himself prety well and recovers a decent amount of balls. His small size is a problem of course, but alongside a quality DM he does a good job in helping the defence IMO.

I also don’t think Aquilani is ready to be a first team starter. Everyone is talking how great he did against Inter in the Supercoppa and against Mialn at San Siro last year, but they forget that apart from that he didn’t impress in any game last season and struggled a lot against some pretty poor Seria A teams.Aquilani is also a very different player from Pizarro, they have different qualities to offer. Aquilani is more dynamic, he’s always looking for risky vertical passes and pushing forward. Which is great sometimes, but when he’s not at his best is really hurting the team because it leads to losing possession too often. Aquilani for me is more of a Perrotta type player, he moves well off the ball, good finisher for a midfielder and have a good shot. Aquilani and Pizarro can compliment each other very well on the field, I don’t see why there should be a choise between them. We need to have more options in midfield and having both Pizarro and Aquilani in the squad gives us a lot of tactical variaty.

BTW, I am pretty sure Pizarro was bought by Inter for 10 mln. plus 50% of pandev, who by that time was already starting to make a name for himself at Lazio.

I’m not denying Pizarro can do everything you mention, the fact is the Roma goals don’t come from him. They come from the wings, and he’s about as tall as a circus midget so he’s essentially a spectator in those situations because he surely can’t head anything.

You continually mention his dribbling and passing. I’ll never say he can’t do those things. But show me something that dictates he isn’t a defensive liability and maybe I’ll think twice. The fact is his defensive shortcomings probably conceded as many goals as he created. My god have you seen the open space in midfield when he’s supposed to drop back (especially against ManU)? You could land a fucking plane with that much open grass.

Watch this video and tell where you see Pizarro ANYWHERE on these goals. Your DM isn’t even in the picture, unless he’s jogging lazily back to avoid doing any defensive duties. I’m sorry but he is horrible on defense. Just horrible. He’s small, he’s slow and he’s lazy. Luckily I think Aquilani and Barusso will bench him by the end of the season.

Btw, thanks Ant and welcome. I’m always looking for dissenting opinions. With a 20m transfer budget we can do little else but rip each other’s heads off about Pizarro and Aquilani.

Second, I had to throw more wood on all this Pizarro fire. Seems like hatred for him is inversely proportionate to love for Aquilani. I never saw it that way. I’d buy an Aquilani jersey first, but I’m still happy to see the other half of Pizarro come into Roma’s hands. It’s worth a watch just for the announcer’s “Bye, bye Milan.” I’m surprised more people don’t remember combinations like this from last season. I’ve always considered Pizarro an asset further up the field.

As for his defensive skills–here’s to hoping more were included in that Inter deal.
