I hate the Sensi family for actually thinking they can overcome this debt and still be competitors next season….we will be competitors…for A UEFA SPOT.

man, chelsea r so annoying with their profligacy..do they have to be linked to every damn player under the sun? now they r after kaka again for >40 mill euros! this is insane. milan will be crazy to sell kaka. i dont know what is going on with shevchenko and milan, but if there is the slightest chance of getting him for cheap, roma should just at it. the guy is still among the most intelligent strikers around. age is not on his side, but i am still bullish about a totti-sheva linkage upfront next season. and this surely is a deal that can be done with or without Soros daddy.

    Re: GTA4

On Xbox Live, look up AtlantAssassin (personal tag) or GSI Sterling M (work tag).
On PlayStation Network, look up GSI_Sterling_M, since my work tag is pretty much my personal tag on PS3.

I think Kirby from Inter Offside tried to add me on PSN, then he might’ve been offended when I responded to his attached pic of Totti by saying “Er Pupone e tuo papa!”

GTA Race will own your soul. I went to Rockstar 3 weeks ago to play it, and the competition was brutal.

    Regarding the team:

I’m wrapping my skull around the withdrawal of Soros’ offer. Although it’s possibly a good thing for the team in Chris’ eyes, and scrappiness goes a long way, it’s made me think a lot about the way that the game itself has globalized in the past ten years. Does it take an ultra-rich foreign buyer to finally achieve legitimacy if you’re not Barca?

Is the climate of the game such that you effectively have to sell out in order to reach that pinnacle in today’s globalized environment? As much as we trash talk the English game, the EPL has its shit together when it comes to marketing, TV rights, and many other things. People outside of the UK watch the EPL because it’s what’s marketed to them. Serie A and the Bundesliga don’t pump nearly as much marketing cash into the US market as the EPL, and that’s probably a reason why most of my friends don’t follow either of those leagues.

I suppose that’s the ultimate question: is it worth selling out to get the name out there and get great players, or to keep the faith and hope that Spaletti can beat this squad like a government mule for results?

I think I know our host’s answer. I’m pretty torn myself.

when in rome, do as the romans do— when playing in a field that has the global football powerhouses competing, do what you can to match them toe-to-toe..or be prepared for inconsistency, perennial underdog status, other teams’ left-over players, and occasional chances at glory mostly ending in so-near-yet-so-far sagas which comes with occasional overchievement. it is all about what we want from our team– no right or wrong answer here. no good vs. evil biblical stories. just expectations. To be honest, while I do not take away any credit from the way roma has played the beautiful game while winning more often than not– I do not expect such a relatively easy frontrunning beating Juve and Milan in the future. If things stay the way they r, roma’s *true* status will be a head-to-head with the Violas, anything beyond will be an overacheivement. And how long can we bank on overacheivement?

I’ll wait to jump off a bridge until we officially aren’t getting new ownership, but I’m looking forward to that derby between AS Roma and Cisco Roma in a couple of years.

We didn’t even bank on overachievement, we banked on other team’s fuck ups.

Considering Sensi’s debt is around 370 millions how can someone say they have used their own money to take Roma where it is. They have used the banks money under the cover of the ItalPetroli company. And even with 370 millions in debt they have only bought one scudetto and accepted one coppa italia in over 10 years.

Who votes for the Sensi’s to retire in Dubai with Panucci?

    Me 1 vote

Better to die with the Roman flag than to buy victories with the Stars and the Stripes!

You guys can feel as gloomy as you like. I for one am pleased I’ll be supporting a team that will be distinguished from Inter and ManU by something more than the colour of their shirt.

Out with Soros… in with Okaka and Cerci!

Maybe *buying victories* is more applicable when you are the only team spending boatloads of cash, while others are far behind in financial resources. is it buying victories when you are replenishing your troops just to logically and confidently compete?

It’s not even the money that I want the most from Soros, it’s the fact we won’t get screwed by other people, won’t be poorly run, will have better marketing, and he’ll treat it like a business, which in case you’re missing something, football is a business. If you want to cling onto the idea that anything in professional sports is pure, I’ll be waiting in reality. Football has officially evolved into a business, and the Sensis’ refusal to recognize this is and has been killing us. Not to mention our recent Scudetto was “bought” by your standards.

You got it, zack - I prefer the Roma of 2008 to that of 2001. I prefer Spalletti to Capello, De Rossi to Batigol, and Mexes to Cafu.

And if you’re going to wait for me in reality, then you should have started heading there months earlier, when the Soros rumours began. Instead, you let yourself get wrapped in Football Manager 2008 fantasies of who we could buy from where if Soros came along. Now that Soros has vanished, you’re the one who needs to come back to reality. This is the team we’ve got. These are the people we rely on. I believe in them. If you don’t, then I’m sorry you won’t be with us, but I’m not stopping at Soros’ gate and neither is this team.

I’m not pro Soros, I’m anti Sensis. Read my posts again. I’m not caught up in fantacalcio at all, I’m caught up in the nightmare that involves us possibly going bankrupt when all the creditors come for the Sensis’ heads. I just want someone who will manage the club like the business it is and make it as profitable as possible and benefit them the most in the long run, not make my club a fantasy team. I want what’s best for the club, and I have managed to put my pride and emotions aside to say that ownership and venue need to change in order for our club to flourish.

I’ve gotta say that right now I don’t take Spalletti over Cappello. what has spalletti won? A repeat in the Coppa Italia is the only bragging rights he has, that and a phenomenal knack for blowing late leads.

I have to admit that I am not completely sold on Spal either. Its all great to see progress and see the team play champagne football, all in the right direction. But he can only be called a big time coach when roma dislays the tough mental character that true champion teams have, and convert a successul season into trophies (and i dont mean coppa). No more whining about what could have been. Everytime roma takes a lead in games they seem to go into a slumber– yes, players are responsible too, but the manager has to instill that work ethic to fight for 90 mins. I might be mistaken, but I dont see anyone other than DDR fight for 90 minues consistently. Love him or hate him, Capello is a winner and builds champion teams. I am not a fan of his style, but he is ruthless and instills that grit in the players. I want that from Spaletti on a consistent basis.

I prefer Spal over Cap. If Capello was managing the current Roma squad, we wouldn’t be dreaming of making the CL final in Rome next year - instead, would be dreaming of UEFA cup! Capello has always had the best or one of the best squads no matter who he has coached (except current team, vaffa.. England). He needs the absolute best otherwise, well otherwise we don’t know because he never has had a weak squad. We needed players like Batigol to win in 2001 with Capello. As soon as money began to dry up though and players he requested were not purchased, he got the f..k out of there and done the dirty by going to Juve. Capello is one of the best coaches, just needs a mega-star team to win anything though. I’ll take Spal thanks .. imagine what he could do with a previous Capello squad. FORZA ROMA
