Milan: A Matter of Personnel.

By: chris | March 5th, 2010

SOCCER-EUROPA/

Roma v Milan

Normally, the projected XI ends the preview; today, it’s everything.

Julio Sergio
Cassetti, Burdisso, Juan, Riise
Taddei, De Rossi, Pizarro, Perrotta
Vucinic, Toni.

What they’ve done while missing bodies here and there is nothing short of incredible, particularly for a team so lacking in depth (uh huh), but to have these names – these game-changers – back is half the battle in itself. The presence in the box who leads the line and presses the defense – back; the midfield conductor who pulls the strings and sets the temp – back; the saviour between the sticks who pulls off a save or two worthy of canonization per game – back. They may not be fully fit, but the entire scope of the side – not to mention Leonardo’s ability to sleep – changes in a flash. They are that important.

On the other side of personnel, Milan will be missing Pato’o, but I’d happily allow them two Ducks for a 15 minute cameo from His Tottiness.

I’ve always quite liked Ranieri’s philosophy of worrying only about his own team – one I adopted some time during the Spalletti years – but for this game, one glaring worry sticks out like a nasty overbite: Ronaldinho. More specifically, Ronaldinho v Cassetti. Or Marco Taddei. Or Rodrigo Cassetti. Or even, given the way his defensive year has gone, Marco Motta. Which means don’t be shocked to see Ranieri go back to the early days and run out uber-fullback Nicolas Burdisso along with a set of handcuffs.

Yet with all these names back – particularly that Toni fellow, whose courting lasted a thousand times longer than the time he’s actually spent on the pitch and thus return is a bit more romanticism than the importance to the team of the other two – there’s one man I want to see on the pitch at some point tomorrow: Jeremy Menez. Twice he’s played against Milan and twice he’s looked every bit the player his astronomical ceiling suggests he can become. There are some players who simply have ‘a team’, and there’s every chance Milan is Jeremy’s team; you run those players out irrespective of form, fitness, tactics, score or
reason.

And while we’re still on the subject of personnel, it’s gotten to the point that before worrying about squad lists, starting elevens and the state of Franesco’s knee against Milanese squads, I check the refereeing designation for one name: Roberto Rosetti.

Not this time. It’s Paolo Tagliavento, and it’s back on even ground.

A week off for most means a week to simmer; simmer for Napoli, for the Europa League, and most importantly, for the last time these two danced. Which means Roma’s back for vengeance.

  • Argentina is crushing their opponents in the world cup. Argentina is in all likelihood going to take it all, I sympathize with whoever they're playing next!
  • Great articles. There’s a lot of nice information here, though I did want to let you know something, I'm running Redhat with the up-to-date beta of Firefox, and the design of your site is kind of wonky for me. I can read the articles, but the navigation doesn’t function so well.
  • Guiseppe
um he's 19. there are players that go to the world cup that don't get run. take balotelli. he'll gain experience. he'll be forced into the spotlight. he'll behave and italy will benefit. he's the future. plus he's a black italian. imagine if he scores a goal
  • CIO
couldn't agree more, nino. balotelli is the kind of player you want on your side when you're winning 3-0 to just hold the ball with his body and then fall as soon as someone breathes on him. if your team is losing he will just resort to diving and whining when the calls don't go his way. even if he had a mature character he is too inexperienced to play at WC.
  • Nino
we talked about the most hated teams, now lets talk about the player? ill give u my answer, it is MARIO BALOTELLI. I hate him. Flashy, good skills, amazing ball dribble, very talented player but he is overrated, what a joke people are asking Lippi to take him to WC2010
-he don't know what to do when he get the ball. he will be better diver than ronaldo.
-should not be in first 11, I have never seen someone dive so much in my life. All he does is fall and expect a foul, just lays on the pitch.
-he is acting like a child, he should get a call to the under 16, not the first team of italy!
-he is such a waste of possesion!...
    -Indisciplinary
-his on-pitch attitude is disruptive; at times it looks like he is not even interested!
-He should quit football and try olympic diving!
  • Tim
Cambiasso is a class act? Hasn't he twice gone into dressing rooms to try to punch opponents? vs. Valencia and then a few weeks ago. i could be wrong

i mildly like Samp, having had several ex Roma players over the last few years.
  • MJ
Hey yo, let me get in on the action

    Hate list:

    1) Juventus(jailbirds) - It used to be SS NAZIO. But overall its Juve now cos of all the cheating they have done. Alos all my friends are juve fans and all i remember is in the 90's and 00's is them winning game after game with bullshit ref calls. Capello & emerson leaving us and joining them made it even worse and with moggi locking ref's in cupboards and threating players to sign for them and what not. When calciopoli came around with them being caught and relegated I never jumped and shouted over enws like this. Who knows where we would be if it weren't have been for their and milan and inters cheating maybe we could have loads of scudetti! their shitWill always be them(they think their shit dont stink cause they are post calciopoli champs and thats all they ever will be. Plus, all these cries of conspiracy are getting really annoying)

    2) Inter - Now inter see above same reasons occuring now with cheating with refs and what not. 3) Genoa (I think they confuse calcio with rugby, fucking hackers)

    3) Lazio - When they had great players, and won the scudetto and fought with us season after season i hated them and the games were competitive now we have bigger fish to fry and i dont have that same passion to hate them all year round just around derby time.
  • Sam
    1)Inter
    2)AC Milan
    3)Napoli
    4)Fiorentina
    5)AS Roma

    The best... JUVENTUS!
  • mimmo
    sorry, * - throw a hissy fit.
  • mimmo
Used to like Zanetti until I saw him through a hissy fit like a little girl. What a pussy.
    I can't stop liking Milito.

    Materazzi has entertainment value.

Maicon is an excellent player but he is also a very good douchebag.

Otherwise, Inter is a soulless lump of douchebaggery with Mourinho taking the deserved prize of King of the douchebags.

Once again, excellent anaysis by GIO.

If we had gone into all-out attack mode, we would have let them go all attacking. Which means we are putting Vuci and Baptista up against Ronaldinho, Boriello and Huntelaar.

How many of you Ranieri-disbelievers actually think we would have come out ahead in that situation?

We did well to contain Milan. Despite their lacklustre start to the season (much like ours), they have a quality team with good players, and they are still in the CL while we couldn't manage to stay in the EL. Win would have been nice, but Ranieri played it the right way.
  • Matthew Totaro
Some long as the Laziale-merda are supported by racist, Mussolini saluting stronzi; they will always be our biggest rivals.

The remaining club rivalries depend upon the ownership, management, players, and player styles of the team at a given time.

Right now, I fuckin hate Inter.

Massimo Moratti is a arrogant figlio di puttana.

Jose Mourinho is a sanctimonious douchebag.

Marco Branca is a elitist twat.

Lucio, Maicon, Muntari, Stankovic, Eto'o, Balotelli, etc. are all thugish cheatin fucks.

The only three people I respect in that entire organization are:

    Javier Zanetti - absolute class
Esteban Cambiasso - leader and a class act
Davide Santon - classy and put up with a lot of shit

But other than that, fuck Moratti, Pirelli, the Curva Nord, etc. etc. etc.
  • Bajan Roman
I will always hate Juventus...pre/post calciopoli.
    1. Juventus (Cheating Bastards)
    2. Lazio (Dumb sheep)
    3. Inter (Soul less cheating bastards)
    4. Palermo (Zampa's involvement)
  • Bashar
Well chris.. If the fans are annoying you week in and week out you would want their team to lose so they would shut up.
  • Gollum
My best friend is a die-hard Juventus fan, so I hate them most (it makes Roma-Juve games quite the spectacle between us!)
  • Apuzzo
Wow! today is "who do you hate?" day i see! Well then, let me jump in.

The list has changed during the last few months but...

    1) Inter (they think their shit dont stink cause they are post calciopoli champs and thats all they ever will be. Plus, all these cries of conspiracy are getting really annoying)

    2) lazio (they should always be at least top 2, no matter how much they suck and cant be compared to us)

    3) Genoa (I think they confuse calcio with rugby, fucking hackers)

    4) Viola

    5) Napoli (watch them play! thats why but like most, i love Hamsik)

Milan get an honorable mention but they have done a lot for Italian football in Europe before the scandal. They are cheating bastards but oh well... Maldini is they only non Roma player that i truly admire and would never say a bad word about him.

I like Palermo. Chris, i see we share the same infatuation for Pastore. I was so fucking jealous when they signed him.
  • Dhaw
My hate for the clubs I mentioned comes because of the history we have had with the above mentioned clubs.

Tell anyone in Rome that as a Roma fan you like Napoli or Fiorentina they will spank you.

Ppl have started hating Inter off late because of what they have done and become apart from that Inter was always the Joker of Italy so as a Roma supporter Inter did not even matter as they have always lacked soul.
  • This list stuff is like a tiny little window into the mindset of a fanbase - very enlightening.

Though I've never understood the "hate the fans so hate the team" parallels - my take has always been fans are a peripheral of sports at best.

I liked Fiorentina until they got Mutu; now I hope they get fucking buried every week. Genoa are a new breed of scum. I like Milan in the vein that the enemy of my enemy is my friend and they've had a great deal of very classy, respectable players. And I like Palermo, despite the odd bad eggs which trickle into their fanbase, because anyone that can handle Zampa is okay in my book, amongst other past relationships (though the Delio Rossi appointment is making it more difficult these days, whilst trying to balance it out with my complete infatuation with Pastore).

But above all, the one non-Roma (current) Serie A club I've always wanted to do well is Cagliari. Unfortunately, it's typically against Roma. Bastards.

Inter and Lazio as clubs can die the slow, painful, irreversible deaths they so very much deserve for all I care.

a lot of catania hating because they are cocky little fuckers who says stupid things about roma.
  • DeGuilio
lupistoza - i'd have to agree. i'd also include Atalanta (although sort of a Roma rival) because i've always been a huge Critiano Doni fan. just a class player that always seems to pop up against the bigger clubs.
  • Bashar
A lot of Catania hating.. that's a surprise. Aside from the obvious teams, I would put Livorno high up on my teams that I hate. Udinese and Atalanta are up there also for reasons I don't understand yet. I just don't like them. They give me a bad feeling.
  • Bashar
99% of the teams that I hate is down to their fans being obnoxious. That's precisely why other people on the offside hate Roma.

That's the reason I hate United (prior to the 7-1), Liverpool, Arsenal (to a lesser extent), Inter, Palermo, Milan (to a lesser extent), Real Madrid, Panathinaikos, Celtic, etc...

I don't like Juve much as a Roma fan but I get on very well with most Juve fans that I meet (if not all of them). Lazio is the one club I despise regardless of how classless their fans are.

I don't really have another favourite club in serie A besides Roma but I like Samp's kit though, and the fact that they have a very Italian squad,a stable team and atmosphere and always seem to knock on the top4 door every season.

"I actually kinda sorta like Milan, they had some great players (Van Basten,Gullit,Maldini,Kaka,Sheva…) and are much respected everywhere, and have done Italy a great favour in Europe"

My FAVOURITE 3 other clubs in serie A:
    1. Fiorentina
    2. Milan
    3. Brescia (because of Baggio's final years there) and Sampdoria (it's like ex-Roma club with Delvecchio, Cassano, Guberti, etc)

yea Catania's colours are flashy but in a sort of way childish,we all know those horrible pics of Mihaljovic in that Catania scarf who Chris mentioned

I have a fun idea, why doesn't everybody post their top3 most hated teams in serie A?
    mine is:
    1 Inter
    2 Lazio
3 Palermo (mostly due to Zamparini and KJ)

I actually kinda sorta like Milan, they had some great players (Van Basten,Gullit,Maldini,Kaka,Sheva...) and are much respected everywhere, and have done Italy a great favour in Europe
  • hanif
KJ, i thought you'd jumped of a cliff after we whooped four on you. happy to know that you didn't attempt to do suicide, which shows that you are pretty much in balance. [enough for my sarcasm...]
well, if you'd ask each and everyone in this roman board, which team they hate the most and why, number one would be inter for reasons ranging from 'cheating', 'mourinho', to 'hating the combination of blue and black'. second might be juve. I fancy palermo would pop up in the middle-lower section of the list, while 'KJ's shitty talk' would be the main reason for hating palermo.
  • mimo
  • Joe
And the oscar goes to..... Ambrosini! for best actor in a sports role
  • Gollum
I'm still predicting a small crisis at Milan when Dunga snubs Ronaldinho for the final Brazil roster. Funny, Baptista's greatest contribution to this season might be his ability to get chosen over Ronaldinho for Brazil :D.
  • ked
Same here Jonas with regards to Fio. I really expected them to be in the top 6 at least but then again they have had no luck at all. Fio and not Samp are much better at representing Serie A in Europe. If Samp make it to the Europa League next season they really better improve their away form. If they played the way they played against 9 man Inter expect them not to get passed the group stages.
  • Jonas
ps: Fiorentina dissapoint me this season, such a great CL run but in serie A,they're as average as can be.
Their Artemio Franchi stadion is nowhere near a fortress: we,Milan and Juve all won there...seems Mutu was a very important key player to them

and Lazio well, pathetic all I can say really
  • Jonas
*with CL contenders,I mean top 4 contenders obviously...
  • Jonas
    indeed,next 3 games are a MUST 9 points
but can you imagine another loss of points next week?
    1 chaos on this blog
    2 title chances definelty over
3 even top4 would become in jeopardy...

these are every important weeks, which will show if we're either CL contenders, scudetto contenders or just another blackout team like last year...

I like gio's summary about Ranieri: he definetely saw the schedules of us,Inter and Milan and gambled on keeping Milan at a save distance instead of going berserk and probably losing with a 0-3 scoreline @home. Still 11 games to play, with some interesting matches like Inter-Palermo,Inter-Juve,Milan-Napoli...chances will follow,Roma grabbing those chances are the thing that keeps me up at night. Totti being almost back and Piza/Toni fully fit next weekend ease my worries though
  • ked
I still don't want to see Simplicio near Roma next season. If he can't start at Palermo, what makes him think he can start here?
  • Aquismaia
I'm wondering if roma signed gallas and simplicio, two will have to leave, its hard to think of either Juan or Mexes leaving but I think I would take the toughest decision and offload Juan, he's 31 years old now, I admit he's our best defender but mexes is still young and has a Roman heart, besides we would still have four tough center-backs in the team, and then simplicio probably means brighi or perrotta leaving, its a nice way for Roma to generate money, but I would much rather see the team stay as is
  • penpa
ya all ranneri lover have to admitt that this man does not like player with technical abilty, he like fighter who just make aimless run n did nothing but to give ball away.n m preety sure that guberti will not return to rome with ranneri as coach coz he will not get any playing time, given chance he can also prove that he can do wonder then wht about menez man he is much better then guberti.i really feel sorry for these two guy coz they r not getting time to prove themself and i feel like italian league really doesnot appreciate young n talented player.if pentenarri play for some other leauge he might have stared some game.
if this coach stay here for long then i,m affaird that we might loss all young n talented player coz they all know that they r not going to get any playing time.
    rot in heel ranerri
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Great to see Guberti playing well. Smart move to loan him out to a team like Sampdoria. He will get plenty of game time (more than he would here) and hopefully he can come back a much better player and replace Taddei on the wing.

Ranieri played the Milan game smart! In fact he played both the Milan and Napoli game intelligently. Sure, we gave up a few points, BUT, 2 points is better than none, and now we have a relatively moderate run of games before we face Inter. It'll be good to get some confidence into the boys with a few victories, BUT it will be tough as Livorno, etc will not just give us the points. Need to get 9 points out of 9 in the next 3 games.
  • Mike R
The Roma-Milan game was difficult to watch, but hindsight being 20/20 Ranieri played it right. Too many players injured/ coming back from injury, not enough faith in the back four after the Napoli/ Pana fixtures. I'm sure things will improve next week.
  • romabaha
KJ, nice to see you back in the mix....like Palermo!

Let your dreams come true this season.
  • Apuzzo
Hahaha we aren't much without Totti just like Palermo aren't much without the Stadio Renzo Barbera. Heroin travels better than that provincial club. Oh wait! they beat Juve! who hasn't?
  • gio
    KJ,

you just really don't know a thing about Roma ... or maybe football at that.

we have not lost a single game in like 17 straight (that's 5 more ahead of Inter in case you need some comparison)and most of those without Totti.

oooooh. you beat Livorno. what happens when you play a real team. i wouldn't talk too much.
  • gio
    @Augustino,

agreed. he wasn't likely to see much action, at least under Ranieri, but that was what i disagreed with. he played very well and deserved more time. there were times when he outshown Perrotta and Taddei with his passing, running, and crossing.

he was a great option to have on the pitch and i hope he does well at Samp because he would be a great addition to our lineup if he comes back.
  • Sterling
At this point in the season, can we just start calling them LOLzio? "Nazio" just doesn't feel right anymore, unless someone's gonna carve a "B" (Burini and Serie B) in Lotito's forehead.
  • @Gio
While it was good to see Guberti perform to his potential, it's hardly likely that he would have been given the opportunity to do so here, and I don't think we should regret his loan too much as he'll most likely return to us a much more confident and better player as a result of it. I will be happy to have him back, though I don't count myself amongst his doubters.
  • aj R4E
    goobers goal was awesome
  • Francesco (Giallorosso)
KJ, I hope your dislike for Roma doesn't come simply from this board. The few idiots that post at the offside should not affect anything that happens in the real world.

Hopefully Palermo can push Juve and Napoli for that 4th place spot.
  • ForzaRoma2001
"It has been proven you arent much without him."

That's amazing KJ. Totti wasn't even on the pitch when we scored three of the four goals while we destroyed you. What an awful team we are!
  • We have twice as many points as Lazio. That is something worth celebrating.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Beautiful!!!

I love to see it when the Laziale-merda struggle and in tears.

Where they are at right now is perfect for them...4th from bottom.

We wouldn't want to see them relegated because we enjoys whoopin' some Cazzo-aquile ass twice a season!!

    Nice goal by Guberti!!
  • KJ
If all you guys had perception like Richie Aprile, I don't think my hatred for Roma would be nearly as much.

That aside, I'm surprised that both of our clubs are faring this well so far. Totti is the man, I will admit. It has been proven you arent much without him.
  • Daniele
    Zarate in tears.
What a little bitch he is

Good points gio. I am happy with the tie. There were times during the game I thought for sure we would end up with a loss. I like Raineri a lot. His lack of subs is the only thing that baffle me. Taddei does not seem to have 90 min per game left in him. Due to how much defending he does/running back an forth. I noticed that quite often on Roma's corners, he defends close to mid while a defender comes forward to try and score. Which is why towards the end of game it would make sense to me for Motta to come on, or Brighi or even Faty for that matter. Or as someone else mentioned, push Cassetti up put Burdisso at RB and bring Mexes on. Using 1 sub when Ranieri stated after the game that we were "tired" is what is baffling. Anyone care to try explain the logic there?
  • gio
for the doubters: glad to see Guberti playing well as i knew he would. i knew we should have never let him go. hope some of you doubters will be happy to have him back.

for the believers: ... and once again, Samp seems to be doing fine (actually better) without wonderboy Cassano. don't keep believing.
  • gio
    oh! and mainly,

look at our schedule. now look at Milan's and Inter's. they both have much harder fixtures ahead.

Milan have Naples, Samp, Palermo, Fiore and Juve.

Inter have Palermo, Rome, Florence and Juve.

the hardest team we have is Inter and Samp (maybe Udine).

it is far better to not risk a loss to Milan, which would diminish our confidence as well as put us further behind, and let the rest of the season play itself out and do some of the work for us in leveling out the table.

    Ranieri is the fucking dude.
  • gio
why Ranieri is more of a genius than you realise

most of you are missing some crucial concepts.

    1. if we played more attacking football, we would have been decimated by Milan. if you thought they had a lot of decent opportunities to score, put us on the attack and you can triple that number. have none of you noticed that when teams try to attack Milan, regardless of whether they manage to put in goals, Milan is able score. they have a strong attack and a strong counter.

    2. one of the reasons we had difficulty scoring is because our attacking mids were doing a lot of defending. you are all right about Taddei - he sucked offensively. that is because he had to spend over 50% of his time defending, without which we would have clearly put our defense under more pressure. if he had shifted the balance and spent more energy attacking, Ronaldinho would have repeatedly burned holes into the box ... as he did when Roderigo could not make it back to defend.

    3. we did not just get one point out of this. we limited Milan to one point as well. this is crucial. seeing as we are so close in the standings, it makes more sense to limit the spread between our two teams rather take a bigger chance to win and actually wind up loosing and increasing the spread by another three points. what Ranieri did was strategic in the big picture and quite intelligent. not only that, but we still have to consider Palermo and Juve behind us. every point counts.

    4. so you don't like the fact that we didn't attack? if we had attacked and lost, half of you complainers would be fuming that we played like crap and lost. we would be five points behind Milan and ten behind Inter. as things stand, we still have a decent chance of topping Milan and even catching Inter.

Ranieri did the right thing. if we had had Totti and a fit Toni along with Pizarro and DeRossi, it might have been different. but seeing as we had to play with what we had we did well to walk out with one point.

I am more than content with direct qualification for Champions League.

If we give Inter a run for their money till the last day then good for us and the calcio world. If not then it is what it is.

For now - next 3 games we need 9 points hook or crook. No excuses.
  • Ian
While it's frustrating that we've failed to capitalize on Inter's last couple of draws (wins against Napoli and Milan and we're only 3 points back of Inter), the fact remains that we're keeping within striking distance.

We have warmups against Livorno, Udinese, and Bologna (all three sitting 13th or worse in the table) before the game against Inter at the end of the month. Meanwhile, Inter has to play Palermo, which will not be an easy match. I'm not giving up hope yet.
  • Dani
    inter 0 0 genoa
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Inter draw with Genoa. So an interesting finish to the season. Guess our result with Milan wasnt so bad after all.
  • Daniele
Inter are such a fucking joke.

    Wow.

Watching makes me hate them more and more each time. As if my hate wasn't strong enough for them
  • Brian
Well luckily we're not AC Roma and we don't have to worry about who "would" start, just who does. I'm happy with our starters. We can get and definitely do need those 9 points from the next three games before inter.
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
    100% sorry!
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Amir, DDR sometimes???? He would be a starter for them 10% of the time. Same with Vucinic. Riise would find a spot in there as well.
  • amir
Agree with Alto . The only guys who would be able to play for milans first team are Sergio, DDR sometimes! Juan for sure and Mirko sometimes.
Milans midfield and attack are way more technical than ours so no need to put fingers at Ranieri.

We were lucky to grab a point yesterday.
Roma played very defesive. No creativity up front. we didn't even make it to go close to their goal! Roma getting a 3rd place with this team should be very very happy!
I love all the guys in the first 11 because they do their best but they simply are not at the level of the champions league and these players are:
    Cassetti, Taddei, Baptista!
So i wish we can get someone strong at Cassetti's spot!
We need another Jovetic instead of Taddei
And we need Toni to stay.
  • Alto
People are acting ignorant. We robbed a point in this match.

Milan have such a higher talent level than Roma, and it's nothing to do with Ranieri's tactics. If you can't see technical superiority, you need an adreneline needle plunged into your chest to wake up. Had we opened that match up we would have been carved ALIVE. Midfield were rendered completely limp and Flamini and Pirlo ran the show. If not for De Rossi's tackling and lungs in the first half we'd have been completely rolled over.

From yesterday's sheet only De Rossi, Juan and maybe -- just maybe -- Mirko get into their team.

Ranieri still does an amazing job for us. He's our coach and he knows what he's doing. But I still cannot wrap my head around how Taddei plays for us week in and week out for 90 minutes. I can't even count how many times he gave away the ball yesterday.

I'm happy for Guberti, fantastic goal. Hopefully he can finally replace him on our right wing next season.

Anc:1 against Milan is a lot better than 0 against Milan.

See you are just assuming if we play an attacking game,we have to lose...i am sorry if I don't agree with those tactics..and I am sorry to believe that we can beat Milan at home with a mostly healthy squad...
  • rayman
point was and the 80k odd who were there for their team would also agree if they had been shown some respect by playing for a win than that disgraceful show yesterday!

i would have been happy with a loss if I knew atleast my tried...if palermo win today you still have a 6 point cushion...what holding you back ffs..

im not calling for ranieris head...he obviously needs to be given a full season to prove himself....but last night was just frustrating...

Guberti just a scored a screamer against, who else, Nazio ;)
  • Michel
We need two good creative midfielders, all our midfielders are fighters and runners except Pizarro if you haven't noticed. The only really creative players in our team is Pizarro and Totti (and Ménez) and that's terrible for a top-4 team. Especially if one of them is injured half the time.

We already got Ménez who should have a starting place already but he never gets any time so two creative midfielders is necessary. We need to get them. It would be best just to let Ménez play and take back Aquilani on loan and only let Taddei make substitution apperances instead.

I'm sick of a starting eleven consisting of fighters and players with no technique at all now when they are not as good as they used to be.
  • kistajk
When Ranieri took over, I remember a Roma legend saying something like this, "Roma simply don't have enough depth to win anything major at the moment, so if you take their beautiful football then there's nothing left."
  • Jonas
btw if Inter draw against Genoa tonight, the difference stays the same and their schedule is way harder than ours

we can only start to talk about a scudetto challenge after the Roma-Inter game, then we'll see if we can have another miracle comeback like 2008...and remember there's no Ibra to save the day for Inter this time
  • Jonas
I can think of one man who could replace Taddei on that RW: Maggio

and if we manage CL,we can try to lure him away from Napoli but it'll be though no doubt

Maggio,Pazzini,Curci and LB with selling Doni,Taddei would be a dream mercato
  • Anc
People who fail to understand that when you drop points, somebody gains them should not be allowed to follow football leagues.

1 against Milan is a lot better than 0 against Milan.
  • Armoracia
Yes rayman, alessio has all the reasons in the world to laugh his ass off, cause all they needed were a mere 50 million signings and a new coach to rule Serie A.
    NOT
  • rayman
this is really what ranieri is all about isnt he...a second rate who'll always be happy with second best..aleesio must be laughing his ass off...

i am not ungrateful..hes brought stability to the team when we were down...but ffs when the confidence is up and you started winning let them play how they used to..these are the guys who played some amazing football under spaletti...they are going agaibst their nature to play such crappy football...most imortantly this is not what AS Roma is about....how is 1 point a lot better than 0 zero points...i would have raher seen good attacking football and lost the match than being frustrated the whole match by his defensive mentality
  • elmi
really, for this season... direct qualification to the cl will satisfy me, and i dont blame ranieri... while taddei sucked last night it'll be a big risk to play menez, who a) don't help much in defence b)his attitude can be a problem .... so if we are to go to the next level, we really need to replace taddei with a better player... taddei, while hard working and all... dont really have the quality. and hopefully menez can improve, but for me that will take some time until it happen.
  • Armoracia
Richie, no-one is saying Roma played a good match. Ad injury-card: DDR, Pizarro, Toni unfit. All key players, the fact that they can stand on their legs doesn't mean they're 100% ready. Our squad lacks depth and they can't be covered by others. I wonder what coach you think would be doing better job than Ranieri since he took the job.
  • ForzaRoma
i want something like this against livorno
    JSB
    Mexes-Juan-Burdisso
    Motta-Pizarro-DDR-Riise
    Menez
    Vucinic-Toni

this is the best possible formation for Toni,Motta,Risse
with Pizarro the 5-men midfield will look compact and dangerous and Menez will provide that much needed creativity up front
but obviously Ranieri will keep at least one of Perrotta/Taddei there for just running, instead of putting a creative player there
so I am just dreaming :(
  • Richie Aprile
lol! Its abominal how some of you try to paint the latest draw as something pretty even, or good. Brain, what game where you watching, or where you watching things with your Roma beer-gogles? Those stats dont paint the honest truth of what the game was, capisce?

The game was not that even, at all. Several truths for some of you: Roma got man-handled. (1) The way Roma played was not the way a 3rd place team (mind you, playing at home) should have played. (2) We were only missing Francesco Totti, so don't try to throw the "injury card" as an excuse.

The Roma team most of us saw got totally dominated, except for a few minutes of the game, especially the start. Other than that, milan was always a threat and always had our team on its back all while our defensive players could barely cope with their offense. It was a stroke of pure luck that milan didn't put one ball behind the net and if they did it would have been a disaster that would have probably lead to other goals. I'm not even going to discuss our poor offensive threat. It was uterly poor, other than the Riise thunderbolt near the end. Let's be honest with ourselves. Again, numbers dont tell the truth, especially the 0-0 scoreline. Some of you can try to fool yourselves but Roma was an utter disappointment.
  • Brian
    Shots (on Goal) 14(3) 15(3)
    Fouls 16 19
    Corner Kicks 5 5
    Offsides 0 2
    Time of Possession 45% 56%
    Yellow Cards 3 3
    Red Cards 0 0
    Saves 3 3

    pretty even game.
  • gio
    Ranieri's explaination:

    http://www.football-italia.net/mar6u.html

i agree with most of it.

and the reffing was really good. do not discount that.
  • gio
    agree with Bashar,

Ranieri has done a lot for this team and managed to tie a CL team that is second in Serie A and in good form. Taddei sucked offensively because he was busy running back to contain Dinho and Huntelaar. DDR was also on containment duty. we had to work twice as hard to limit their attack.

our attack was lacking and that is largely due to the fact that we had limited options and Milan did a very good job cutting down the game on the ground. what we needed was a better passing game. Totti could have helped, but Menez and Cerci would have run into the same problems.

sure there were things i didn't understand: Perrotta's off-his-meds, aimless running about; some of the timing of the substitutes, but i think considering some of our key players were out, and others who were playing were still recovering fitness, and who we were playing, we did alright.

would have been happier with a win, but had we pushed for the victory we may have opened ourselves to defeat.

    IN RANIERI I TRUST.

    try it. it feels right.
  • Richie Aprile
Mi fa male la forma in che nostra rosa gioco contra il Milan. E' una vera disgrazia!
  • Richie Aprile
Credit to all of you who are angry about this latest "draw."

I am super angry and fustrated as well. I don't give a fuck if anyone now here wants to defend Ranieri because we are in "3rd place" but seriously, the fact is that the last 5 games or so have been pure bullshit, poor, gutless, and disappointing. Why do so against Milan? Why not go all out and show a fighting, winning spirit? WHY?

My list of complains is way too long to write, but my main fucking problem is and has been (1) the poor selection of players, all starting with fucking useless Taddei. The (2) poor player substitutions, or even worse, the lack of them like the game today. (3) The gutless mentality that the team should just sit back, defend and hope for a draw.

Ladies and gentleman, if this is the Ranieri that wants to show us and the rest of the world what A.S. Roma is made of, then I don't want him to coach our team next season.
  • Tottigol
wait Johonna is a girl? Damn, I woulda combed my hair or something, if I'd known.

Seriously though, thats about the only thing soccernet is good for. I find soccerstats to be handy for these kinda things as well.

Just a graphic reminder of what Ranieri has done for us this season...(look at the graph below in the link)

  • Joey
I see there is another Joey on here now - but he has the same ideas as I - so be it.

I just watched today's game on the DVR - that game sucked. 2nd and 3rd place teams, sold out stadium (and there have been LOTS of empty seats everywhere in Serie A this season) - this game should have been a Serie A showcase.

CL away game at Chelsea, when we parked the bus the entire game and lost 1-0 towards the end - ok I can kind of understand that, as we almost stole an away draw that game.

I love what Ranieri has done for Roma. But I never ever want to see my team, in front of a rare full house, playing for 2nd place, sit back and pray for a draw. I reject the "our objective is 4th place" mentality. Milan was so there for the taking today - but when the ball is crossed in the box, and nobody is there except Vuci vs 4 defenders, means 0-0 here we come (and that is the best outcome possible).

How the hell can Ranieri stand there and watch Taddei give the ball away again and again and again. I have been saying on here for over 2 years that Taddei KILLS us out there - and he did again today. He is AWFUL.

Hey Baptista, thanks for the Saturday jog today. Nice to see you get your chance to play for once - and you go right into your early morning trot around the field from the first whistle. Way to hustle out there Julio.

Baptista, Taddei, Doni - buh bye... Replace those 3 next year with Okaka, Motta, and rescue Curci from Siena before they ruin him - a few easy upgrades that have to take place. Bring back Marco D'Alessandro at least he has some pace and desire out there.

DAMMIT I hate when Roma plays so indifferently like this. But that's Roma...
  • Armoracia
Baptista looked like he got a special instruction: just shoot. And so he did and he was quite decent and liked him.
Then again, he's not a striker. Vuci was our only striker there and we all know, he's a striker just because he's really good at playing football and we have no one else fit for that position. Pizarro was unfit, DDR was unfit, Milan was good and we had our share of chances as well. I am not too disappointed, but I will never, ever understand why anyone puts Taddei on the pitch. He's either invisible, or... visible and my eyes are crying blood. I wonder what his pass completion was. I couldn't care less about his hard-work when he just gives-away fouls or passes, red card for him would serve us better.
  • siraj
  • Julian
I feel so bad for vucinic having to play with that bunch of useless players upfront. Its no wonder he tries to do everything himself
  • Julian
Such a frustrating game!!! I'm probably only repeating what's been said here but fck ranieri. By leaving on Taddei and perrotta it was clear that he was playing for the draw. And that to me is pure bullshit.

We're several points ahead of the chasing pack, we aren't in europa anymore why the fuck would he not go for the win. We dont have anything to lose.

Unbelievable the lack of ambition. I mean we had pressed forward and gotten scored on off the counter then to bad we gave it our best shot and thats that.

I like ranieri I really do but its about time we try and challenge for something more than a coppa. To quote the great one: "you miss 100% of the shots you never take"
  • Jonas
best thing for me was fuckin JSB back between the sticks, that's enough said no? We better start looking down instead of 1st place now with Juve,Palermo and Napoli breathing in our neck once again.

I feel sorry for the people who went to see it,they deserved a win, shame.

about Ranieri: yes he may have a loser's mentality,as he consistently talks away the scudetto talk,so did the players. At one point,we were 5 points behind Inter, that looks like a title contender to me no? When Ranieri took over, he had one goal: CL next season, which will work (or we had to play like this for another 2-3 games, expect a complete chaos on this blog then)
We wanted CL,we'll get it next season. With Ranieri, you get the results (and maybe a coppa),but not the real deal just yet, same as Spal actually but with more beautiful football. I started to like Ranieri, but this squad is so capable of doing much more, they don't need to sit back and wait for a counter in a FULL OLIMPICO,you know our fortess? This squad needs a winner like Mourinho,Guardiola,Capello,Ferguson,Ancelotti... or young exciting one like Mazzari,Gasperini,Allegri.

I'm NOT calling for Ranieri's head, rememeber he put us back on top and he deserves the credit, but after a while you can see his negatives (no balls, not using subs,unable/afraid to change the game ...).Let us enjoy the top 3 and laugh at Lazio and win the coppa for now.
then finally some GOOD transfers to tweak the team and taste of the CL once again.

all in all,sad and boring night, many expected more from them but in the end, nothing changes: Inter win the title,we maybe a coppa and we will play CL again with Prade/Rosella making stupid mercato moves...

ps: how would Totti feel now? Did he really mean the 'we're not scudetto contenders' line? surely,he must be sad that we didn't take that opportunity to close the gap the last few weeks no?
  • Tottigol
    wouldnt*

    Inter - Chievo

    38

Here is the fixture list for the remainder of the season... Inter definitely has the toughest schedule (@Roma, @Palermo, @Fiorentina, and Juve at home). Milan has a couple of difficult games, but most of them are played at the San Siro. We have the easiest final stretch, and only really have to worry about Inter.
  • Michel
    We need creative midfielders.
  • jed
so so so so so so frustrating...

    terrible taddei was tearrible today

pizarro needs fitness, de rossi was pretty solid. Totti or Toni need to be back asap
  • siraj
We needed Menez out there, I mean the Olimpico is maxed out, attack ffs!!!
Don't mind Ranieri, just thinking he needed to make that one sub.
  • Bren
Well im gonna have to agree with the earlier sentiment on here in regards to Taddei, other than his work rate, he really contributes little to the offense, especially in a game such as this where it was screaming for someone to create any sort of opportunity, which Taddei cannot do.

I just dont see the attraction to him, he's solid and wont lose a game for you, but we have enough of those guys already.

Menez's talent is being wasted and we're gonna lose him b/c of it
  • h2k
Ronaldinho is the reason that was no attacking play from Roma today.

Cassetti couldn't hold the fort against him so collectively, the team stayed back and had to play counterattacking football.

And yes, Ranieri has been dropping the ball on subs this past 2 weeks.
  • Bashar
Perrotta and Taddei who have been in a good run of form really let us down today. I would have pushed up Cassetti and moved Burdisso to RB. Brought Mexes on for Taddei. Perrotta should have been taken off instead of Baptista.
  • Sterling
Those of you calling for Ranieri's head and whining about Spaletti should go start the Zenit Offside, if it doesn't exist yet. The rest of us will lament the poor choices, chin up, and look to Livorno next week.
  • mac
My wife thinks I am crazy. The last 30 min of the game all she heard was "make a sub" OR "Take Taddei off Yesterday"

I'll say it again. Rainieri will go down with the most unused subs in the history of football. I would say he makes 1.5 subs per game tops.
  • Joe
I am happy JSB chalks up another clean sheet! am i right?
  • ked
In other news people in this blog should calm the hell down, I mean the draw wasn't against a relegation contender...it was MILAN!!! You know AC MILAN, who is currently SECOND in the league. Ranieri has done far more with this club than we dreamed of in the first few games of the season so we should be thankful...of course nothing is wrong with a little constructive criticism but geez some of you take it to insanely higher levels.

Our objective is Champions League football and as far I see we are on target. What about Fiorentina's fans, they again got the short end of the stick for like the millionth time this season yet they don't complain half as much as some of us do here...so before you go ranting...consider where we were earlier on and be thankful where we are now.

Only 11 more games to go people...
  • Michel
All I want is to coaches stop having their personal favourites...choose the best one.
  • Joey
As a Roma supporter, this was one to the most frustrating games I've seen all season.
    1. I understand the importance of always gaining a point, but this was horrible. In a sold out home game we could of pushed more. I never spent so much time yelling at the tv to hurry it up. I can't remember the last time where I was getting that pissed and the funny thing is we weren't losing. Of course it is important to qualify for the CL, but try to win this game and have some luck to be in striking distance for Inter. After the first 15 min you could tell the objective was not give up a goal.
    2. NO MORE TADDEI!!! He has his awful to watch. When is Roma going to learn to stop playing Brazil rejects.
    3. I love DDR. There are times though where I have to question his judgement. Horrible long balls and almost gave up the game winning goal when Pirlo took it from him.
  • ked
As much as I was disappointed with the draw, asking for Ranieri's head is ridiculous.

All I want are some substitutions. Is that too much to ask for?
  • Apuzzo
Its Milan ffs! you know, world class players especially up front that can make a team shit their pants if they dont keep defensive consistency. Reading some of the comments, im starting to think we faced Siena instead of Milan today.
  • Apuzzo
Hell! i just got here and im gonna leave. You are all insulting the man who has saved our season. Go read a book or something!

Thats why i dont blame people from other blogs dissing Roma fans. Some of you are just pathetic. Sorry for insulting but you guys need to wake the fuck up.
  • MJ
Thats too overboard spal reached his time to leave everything he was doing stopped working. Ranieri started out well but is now making too many mistkes with the line-up of certain players who shouldn't be playing and defensive tactics witha hint of catenaccio football. Also this no subs pisses me off but dont fire him all he has to do is CHANGE his ways
  • Hondo
  • Dhaw
Time for me to leave as well. Some of you are just fickle fans who PMS the moment nothing goes right for the team.

    Sad.
  • Rahul
No one is calling for Raneiri's head Bashar. The call is for change - he has done some good things so far. Now is the time for him to do better things and not bottle up.

its waste to watch match under this dickhead ranerri...so boring all time defending....go to hell ranerri if someone else might come in place of him we could have reach same position we r ritenow coz we got good squad n i,m fucking sure this coach will ruin roma
  • Matthew Totaro
    I think your right Kamran.

The air came out of our sails when JSB went off against Panathinaikos.

We haven't recovered that same swagger we had during the 20 match run.
  • mimo
inspite of the disappointment i dont buy the "Milan deserved 3 points". you dont deserve 3 points if u miss chances. they would have deserved it if say it ended 0-0 but they did not get a legit PK call.
  • mimo
now please let's not get carried away and cry for Spaletti. this would have been a 3-4 or even 0-3 with him with everyone pouring forward and Milan scoring on the counter.
  • Hondo
I want Alex Ferguson to defend a lead!
  • Matthew Totaro
Very defensive play, misuse of the subs.

    Leonardo outwitted Claudio today.

    Milan simply couldn't finish.
  • Hondo
"Basically you guys want Spalletti to attack and Ranieri to hold the lead."

Ranieri hasn't done too good job defending a lead. He's pretty good defending a draw and maybe get a late winner..
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Pettinari should play. I really think that the desire to win has died in a few players in the last few weeks. Bring some youth in, so at least that hunger is there, and at least we know they will give 100%
  • Julio Sergio's injury started a chain reaction and ended up costing the fighting mentality.
  • Matthew Totaro
With Spalletti, this would have been a 3-0 loss.

I love what Claudio has done with this team.

I just think today he got his tactics wrong.
  • Hondo
-Ranieri has NO BALLS: We are defending and hoping for a miracle. I'm not used to watch that kind of football.. and I don't want to be.
-We have no world class options for attack. (Should we try primavera?)
    -We need Totti back
    -Ambrosini is a disgusting bitch.
-Why don't we have attacking wingers like any other team? Rodrigo "Free Willy" Taddei is no Jesus Navas!
    -Ranieri: No Balls!
  • mimo
asking for Ranieri's head is obviously over-dramatic. I didnt criticize him even after the Europa league exit. but cant help feeling let down that he did not have more ambition today @ home as the coach of a form team vs their main contender. I dont care about the 0-0 scoreline as much as the in-your-face confession that Roma did not come out to win.
  • Matthew Totaro
The idea is you play to win the fuckin game.

Your at home with 50,000 supporters, it's a second place battle.

What the fuck do you play for? You play to win.
  • Gollum
This is not Spalletti football, get used to it.
  • MJ
So is that 5 SCUDETTI to INTER NOW, How does it go:

1st One: Won in the COURTROOM

2nd One: Won with No competition

3rd One: Won on the last day and in the last 30 mins of a game thanks to IBRA with 2 goals.

4th One: Won by cheating Calcipoli Style.

5th One: Won by half cheating and half competition fucking themselves by being Inconsistent.
  • Bren
Did Menez shit in Ranieri's office or something?
  • penpa
i fucking heat this coach...why he is always playing this shithead taddie and perrota all time n they contribute nothing for team apart from running here n there......if ranerri really want runner why dont he take olympic runner instead of footballer.. he will have team full of runner...this fucking coach gonna ruin the carrier of menez.
  • Dhaw
MILAN did not deserve the 3 points and neither did Roma.

Both teams sucked balls and them sharing the spoil is just about right.
  • RomaRomaRoma
when are we getting totti back anyway
  • Dhaw
    Wow pauly easy there.

what did Milan do to "DESERVE" 3 points. ????
  • kistajk
"Playing on the counter at the Olimpico is sad"

    +1
  • Bashar
I'm out. After everything Ranieri has done for us I'm reading absolute crap from you ungrateful people. When things are going well you guys weren't saying anything and now you want him fired? Nonsense. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
  • Dhaw
    NO TOTTI NO PARTY !!!
  • Pauly WalNuts (ASR)
One word applies to this result and overall Roma play:

    EMBARRASING!
  • Dhaw
Play like this against Inter and they will treat u with some serious disdain.
  • h2k
Basically you guys want Spalletti to attack and Ranieri to hold the lead.

Let's hire Spalletti back as the offensive coordinator.
  • adam
Why does Ranieri have to answer for a 0-0 draw against the 2nd placed side in Serie A ? Come on guys, perspective, get some...

you could say we are lucky to get a 0-0, but from those two injury time half chances, milan can count themselves lucky themselves...just a matter of perspective....
  • Joe
remember that one time we played sampdoria and subs weren't exactly employed strategically?... that one ended 0-0 too
  • Matthew Totaro
Pato would have had a hat-trick today.

    MOTM...Milan's finishing.
  • mimo
if only the 0-0 was due to great attack but even better defending. it was more like sucky defending, even more sucky attack.
  • kurdt
Abbiati is simply the JS of Milan.
  • Rahul
And there it is. Nothing expected - any team in the upper half of the table - we try and go for draw first - sometimes we get lucky and score a lot (Palermo) - sometimes we put out a performance like we did today. Team in the lower half of the table - we try to score a goal and then go to sleep.
  • Bashar
Yeah.. Credit to Milan who were far better than us. They deserved the win here while we deserved the draw there. Overall they got a deserved 4 points off of us.

Good point for us. I figure scudetto is over for both teams unless Genoa pull off a miracle, but this point could be huge in the CL race. Plus we have a much easier schedule now.
  • ForzaRoma
fuck ranieri.if we are going to battle for scudetto next year then we must fire him at summer
  • Matthew Totaro
Were we the away team at San Siro????

    Oh, we were at home.

    Surely didn't look like it.

    0-0 draw was a miracle.
  • Arfaestnes
And Ranieri drops another two points for us. I guess that's what they mean when they say he has a losing mentality.
  • MJ
i said it months ago i'll say it again ranieri has NO BALLS
  • h2k
    A draw was fair

Playing on the counter at the Olimpico is sad
  • mimo
last header by Juan over the bar. really disappointing game. I love what Ranieri has done, but just cant get my head around what they set out to do today.

    Congrats, Inter.
  • Lucian
    Ciao ragazzi, Forza Roma
  • Rahul
Holy Fuck. Riise almost got that.
  • Gollum
    oooooh Riiiiise...
  • MJ
well then mr "defensive" ranieri u got ur boring catenaccio 0-0! grazie NOTHING
  • Joe
wow. that is NOT the scoreline i was expecting
  • Matthew Totaro
    Juan!!!!!!
  • totti iz legend
pato's absence today was a blessing IMO
  • Dhaw
    what a rocket
  • Bashar
Not a good advert for Italian football at all. WHAT A SHOT BY RIISE!!
  • Matthew Totaro
    OMG!!!!!!

    We almost got the miracle!!!
  • mimo
i am done wondering about subs. makes no sense in a game where Roma is not controlling most parts of the pitch.
  • Bashar
I think the people who watched this game deserve bouquets too. haha
  • Matthew Totaro
Galliani lookin like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now.

    Scary.
  • Gollum
    god I hate ambrosini
  • Dhaw
Ranieri has to be answerable. Can't just keep on nuthugging him.
  • mimo
Moratti will send bouquets to Ranieri & Leo today.
  • MJ
so no subs again well mr "denfensive" got wot he wanted a denfensive game! 0-0 was ur wish
  • Matthew Totaro
Absolutely fuckin up with the subs.

    We're walking around the pitch.
  • Dhaw
Wokay. Inter it is for the 5th time eh
  • Joe
allright, this is either ending sampdoria or fiorentina
  • Matthew Totaro
Burdisso with a wonderful head kick.

    MMA defending. Great stuff.
  • Bashar
I don't have much against Ranieri but using only 1 sub per game is just ludicrous.
  • Tomanista
    Fucking hell De Rossi.
  • Dhaw
Burdisso with some Jackie Chan moves.
  • totti iz legend
oh thank you huntelaar, hated u against the friendly vs. the US, love u now
  • MJ
Thank god whats this calm bullshit at the back fucking quick passes
  • Dhaw
What a miss by Hunter. What a fucking miss.
  • Ranieri's dropping the ball on subs - there are some seriously tired legs here.
  • Bashar
That's why we need 2 players back there.. Taddei plus our right back.
  • mimo
My goodness. immense stop by Burdisso.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Huntelaar!!!!!!!!

    Unbeliavable!!!!!!!!
  • h2k
    Leonardo's got our cards right.

Pressing the midfielders, leaving only counters for Roma.

Roma giving too much space to Milan
  • totti iz legend
why no sub for vuci or perrotta?
  • Bashar
Gollum. NEVER!! My love for Roma is more than my hatred for Inter. Let them win the scudetto. I'll take a point today.
  • Gollum
fuck, another BS call and taddei was in the clear
  • Joe
Where is tonetto? let's bring him back from the dead for some crosses to the left side of toni's forehead
  • Rahul
Hmm, true Bashar. But if we have to use Cassetti as a measure of excellence, then we really are lost.
  • Dhaw
Can't believe with another 2 subs wasted.
  • adl
agreed, joe, there's been more hugs than shots on goal!
  • mimo
Milan have looked good only relatively. they still havent scored and do not look like they genuinely believe they can chase down Inter.
  • Gollum
I'd almost be willing to give milan a goal at this point... better than seeing inter win the scudetto; a draw is useless.
  • Matthew Totaro
I'm arguing against the tactics and the mentality that we have.

At home in a second place battle you have to play to win.

If Milan had one ounce of finishing quality today, we would be down 3-0.
  • Bashar
Rahul.. Imagine Taddei wasn't there then. Yes he gave away the free kick but Cassetti was nowhere to be found. We need more on the right.
  • Dhaw
The ref has been MASSIVE !!!
  • forzaroma44
    We still have 2 subs?
  • ethan
What a chunk free kick from Donkey
  • Bashar
HAHAHA.. What a good free kick position given Roma's vulnerabilites from set pieces. Wasted terribly.
  • Rahul
There, we see the wonderful man marking of Taddei.
  • h2k
Rolandinho is all I hear from the FSC feed
  • Joe
waaay too much hugging going on the pitch
  • Matthew Totaro
Worst free kick I've ever seen!!!!!!!!
  • Gollum
balls-to-the-wall time... a draw helps no one.
  • MJ
wow best thing taddei did all nite a foul on dinho
  • Dhaw
    Totaro,

Let's not forget we are playing a team who can offensively tear us a brand new hole on their given day.

It's better to be safe that sorry in games like this.
  • Bashar
terrible tackle by taddei and a Milan free kick in a dangerous area. This game will be settled by 1 goal I think.
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
geez zampa is pissed at milan!
  • adam
Nothings as dramatic as throwing ones gloves away,

just because we arent playing well doesnt meant that the players or Ranieri arent trying...ppl seem to forget that
  • Rahul
What the fuck was that from Ambro? Stupid Dive. Should be booked and cooked.
  • totti iz legend
    second dive for ambrosinni
  • Matthew Totaro
    Ambrosini you cheatin fucker.

I hate that fuck. That should be a yellow card.
  • mimo
Ambro really desrves a yellow. dive inside the box now.
  • Ambrosini the diving machine.
  • Gollum
wtf what that? he elbows taddei and the call goes against us?
  • Bashar
Not really a dive because Taddei did collide with him.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Roma is not Barca, correct.

But it's the way you play the game.

Do you go out to win, or do you sit back and pray that you win.

It's the attitude that makes a difference.
  • Joe
ambrosini is a cockmuncher. the biggest on that team
  • totti iz legend
he pulled the wrong shoulder there!
  • ethan
    Ambro should be ashamed
  • Gollum
    close.
  • mimo
    wow...nice dive Ambro.
  • Dhaw
    Totaro,

Roma is not Barca. Let's not start an comparisons here.
  • Rahul
I see people skipping past Taddei - I really don't see him marking Ronaldinho.
  • Dhaw
Only reason Buckteeth has been poor is because Taddei has been on his ass all day
  • Bashar
I love how everyone is saying Rolandinho now.
  • Matthew Totaro
You have to play to win.

Look at what Barca has done over the last two years.

You play the game to win and try to score goals and play somewhat balanced football.

Playing to earn a draw is a sure way to lose.
  • Dhaw
    I agree wholeheartedly.

Taddei has done shit offensively. But defensively he has helped so much that those who calling for his head need to watch the game again and with some calmness
  • ForzaRoma
    WHERE IS MENEZ?
  • Gollum
    should be 1 - 0
  • Rodrigo's one of two people keeping Rolandinho from doing jack shit. He absolutely cannot come off.
  • MJ
lol dhaw yh ranieri will use all his subs up in the 90th min if were LUCKY
  • mimo
@ adam- "Whats with all the ranieri hate though? we’re 0-0 with our direct rivals, and have had dangerous chances as well…lets not lose perspective here guys"

it may have been fine if they did not need huge doses of luck to have kept it at 0-0.
  • Bashar
Menez on for Perrotta who hasn't done anything. At least we see Taddei on both the offensive and defensive ends.
  • Rahul
And that SOB, MF, Taddei does nothing again. Oh, how I abhor him.
  • Matthew Totaro
    OMG!!!!!!!!!!

    Ronaldinho, with a miss.
  • Tottigol
    chris...theres this guy Rodrigo something..
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Look, Ranieri doesn't care about the title. He doesn't want it. All he wants is champions league, and as such, will take the draw. I want the win, but Ranieri thinks differently.
  • Rahul
Umm, adam, it is with the lack of trying. He is not trying to go for the win. He is too defensive. And you take points off your direct rivals by beating them, not by sharing the spoils with them.
  • Bashar
Tinkerman is gonna bring Menez on for a maximum of 10 minutes which won't be enough for him to do anything.
  • Gollum
need to hit the net from there :\
  • Tottigol
More than Ranieri, I think it's our players who've been dragging their feet.
  • mimo
is Menez injured? how can Taddei still be on?
  • Menez really, really needs a run here - just not sure who to bring off.
  • Lucian
what's up with our shooting tonight
  • totti iz legend
    um... taddei sub... now.
  • Bashar
Terrible shot from Taddei. He had too much room there.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Nice job, Rodrigo.

Tons of space, not even close to goal
  • MJ
    FUCK off taddei
  • Dhaw
I think Ranieri waited for Leo to make all his subs.

Now watch the Tinkerman do something out of the box. Just fucking watch it
  • adam
Whats with all the ranieri hate though? we're 0-0 with our direct rivals, and have had dangerous chances as well...lets not lose perspective here guys
  • Gollum
    uhoh... worried about mr offside
  • mimo
sorry but Leo has out-thought Ranieri so far. only difference is that Leo's players have not been clinical enough.
  • DeGuilio
at the 80th if still no sub, i give up
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
    Inzaghi on, bori off.
  • Bashar
Inzaghi against tiring legs with service from Beckham, Pirlo or Ronaldinho. Worrisome perhaps.
  • MJ
Fuck me the goal machine is on expect 100 offsides
  • Matthew Totaro
    Fuckin Inzaghi.

This game is tailor-made for him.

Watch him nick a fuckin late goal
  • Dhaw
    Ohh that was so Aquilani'sh
  • mimo
    pippo scares me.
  • DeGuilio
first time in a while we've had to say this. No Totti No Party
  • Bashar
Flamini was good today I thought.
  • Matthew Totaro
I don't know what the fuck Claudio is waiting for with Taddei.
  • adam
Leonardo has made a rookie mistake taking off Flamini for Beckham though. watch us punish him for this
  • mimo
feel sorry for the home fans filling the stadium.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Look at DDR.

    He created that whole move.
  • Bashar
If Whittle says Rolandinho one more time I'm gonna lose it.
  • Rahul
Sub ... Sub ... where are the damned subs?
  • Lucian
At least we are playing further up the finish. A couple of inspired changes, and we could still win this one
  • Dhaw
Both teams are poor. Milan is just having the ball a lot more and hence looking good. That's all.
  • Matthew Totaro
Ranieri doesn't allow anyone to get forward.

We willing to not have any possession and give up the wings for some defensive solidity, but it's difficult to watch.
  • mimo
Roma looking like the team that has to play ManU in a few days. sad.
  • DeGuilio
    ugh
  • MJ
ranieri is getting beyond annoying. Defensive approaches, defensive line-ups, choosing the wrong players and NEVER EVER making SUBS!
  • adam
Remember when Ranieri first came to rome, and he said that totti needed to shake things up with his movements, and that even the blades of grass knew where he was going next...

well thats the way i feel about ranieri's roma at the moment...

our movements are very very predictable at the moment..toni adds a new dimension though
  • Lucian
F*@K I thought that was in
  • Bashar
Should have done better with his free header. But at least we are creating chances now... err.. chance.
  • Gollum
    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh vuci
  • mimo
oooohh..that may be the closest they get to scorning.
  • Rahul
Never thought I would say this, but it is in matches like this that I begin to see sense in Juventus' decision to sack Ranieri. The guy is too happy with a draw to take a team to any honours.
  • Tomanista
How the hell is this team 3rd?
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
    Vucinic!!!!!!!!! ahhhhh!!!!!!!!
  • totti iz legend
DAMN! so close! i love this announcer though!
  • MJ
so close but didn't expect it
  • Bashar
So close from Vucinic!! What a nice chance.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Vucinic!!!!!!!
  • Bashar
Our players are lacking energy. They aren't running on to the balls with the aggression that Milan are.
  • mimo
@ dhaw- touche. lol @ "Even some english babies cry"
  • forzaroma44
    This is a complete joke!!!
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
    beckham on will be interesting.
  • Rahul
We are not playing like a time which aspires to play in the Champions League. We are playing like a team battling relegation.
  • Dhaw
I think this where Ranieri begins to get annoying when he wastes his subs on games like this
  • MJ
we're at home yet the visitors are using 3 attacking subs. Well down ranieri!
  • ethan
Truly Milan should be killing us. That we're 20 minutes from a point is a miracle.
  • Tottigol
lmao that was pathetic!!!! Riise just gave up.. Fucking JS saved our asses yet again
  • Matthew Totaro
Claudio's tactic: give Milan total possession, look like a fuckin Serie C team in defense, and score a Luca Toni extra time winner.

Greatest tactical gameplan in the history of Calcio.
  • Bashar
i'm all for Brighi on for one of Taddei or Perrotta.
  • Rahul
Subs Subs Subs .... what's the apathy towards the bench, Raneiri? Why not take a bloody risk? Why not?
  • DeGuilio
this is a formation and tactic of a team whose objective is CL football and CL football only. no chance this team thinks it can challenge Inter, and sadly, they're right.

    Pathetic display
  • Dhaw
    Even some english babies cry
  • Bashar
Bad decision making from Perrotta and Taddei today. He had plenty of support. 2-3 players around him and at least one in a good position.

Julio Sergio with 2 good stops. haha..
  • Rahul
What the hell is this supposed to be? A must win? F* this S%
  • mimo
1 million Roman babies cry when Perotta tries a long range shot.
  • MJ
fucking greedy fucks ppl like perrotta fucked us up 2day awful line-up
  • Matthew Totaro
    Oh, Perrotta.

    He had Vuci out wide.
  • Dhaw
I feel awful for the ones who have paid to watch this game.
  • mimo
inviting Pirlo to dictate the game. nice.
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
game is crying out for Menez.
  • Rahul
We are not even trying. :(
  • Dhaw
I can't take Riise anymore now.
  • DeGuilio
Taddei is tricky, somehow he's tricked legit coaches that he's an asset
  • Rahul
I am going to go down to Rome and finish off Taddei once and for all.
  • Matthew Totaro
We are walking around out there.
  • Dhaw
I feel awful when big players like Toni work so hard and fight for the ball and the players who r supposed to be doing just chill
  • totti iz legend
i think thats the first time ive seen perrotta this half.
  • Bashar
That was funny from Luca. Fighting to keep possession but doing nothing useful with it. I think it was Taddei who waste the possession there.
  • MJ
Fucking taddei again any taddei fans watching never talk about him again he is a capital S-H-I-T!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • mimo
could Taddei be any more useless?
  • Bashar
It's weird to see Milan with so many young players out there. Bonera, Antonini, Huntelaar, Boriello, Flamini and Silva are all 28 or under.

They've got quite a lot of pace and are using it to good effect.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Oh, Luca.
  • Rahul
Taddei is shit. He needs to be subbed.
  • Gollum
    nice work vuci!
  • adam
I think its a simple matter of Milan doing their homework, they know our movements on and off the ball, and they are anticipating and intercepting our passes well...
  • mimo
Vuci showing Taddei how to tackle. shame on you Rodrigo.
  • MJ
ha silva ran past taddei like he was a fucking GHOST
  • Matthew Totaro
Taddei has got to come off.
  • mimo
Morinho must be chuffed to see the scoreline in Roma-Milan so far.
  • Matthew Totaro
Luca is the greatest framer of a free kick foul ever.
  • ethan
    Get a handle, Boriello
  • Gollum
ooo close... just clipped the heel
  • Bashar
Deflected shot.. too high for an offside Burdisso.
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
    wasted!!!!!!!
  • Gollum
    Time for a Riise canon!
  • Armoracia
How can anyone be so useless, Rodrigo? Terrible joke of a player
  • mimo
a set piece goal may be Roma's only hope today.
  • Bashar
Toni got his arm pulled. It's a fair free kick.
  • Tomanista
On a positive side, defending can't possibly get any worse.
  • Rahul
Take off Taddei as well please.
  • MJ
    RISSSSSSSSSSSE
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
riise has to make up for a shit game right here
  • Dhaw
Okay who will take this ???

    I think DDR
  • Bashar
Free kick in a great position. Too bad Baptista isn't there for it. It's his kind of range.
  • Matthew Totaro
Nice work by Taddei, give up posession one on one.

    Luca thank you, some skill.
  • MJ
THATS HOW U FALL DOWN GRAZIE TONI
  • adam
Ranieri bawling out exactly what we need to do, Calm the cuss down
  • Bashar
Taddei easily loses possession after trying to be too fancy. Just find some space and cross it. No need to beat him.
  • totti iz legend
was that a failed attempt at the aurielo?
  • MJ
go back to SIENA taddei ur SHIT
  • Joe
Are they warming up the wrong Me*ez? we don't need another defender!
  • mimo
Ranieri's plan looks good when the defence is solid. (like the Viola & Juve games). but when it is so shaky- they look like a team that has no winning game plan.
  • Dhaw
Ranieri saying Calm Down Calm Down
  • Bashar
disastrous defending!!! Pizarro with the worst giveaway on the edge of our box. oof..
  • Rahul
Mexes would come in for Cassetti and Burdisso will probably slide in at RB.
  • totti iz legend
i'll take menez or cerci at this point!
  • Matthew Totaro
Claudio's tactic is to let Milan have all the possession, control the midfield and the wings, and pray that Luca can head in a miracle.

A draw would be a miracle.
  • Dhaw
    mexes ?? lollll
  • mimo
mexes to come in soon for Burdisso?
  • Rahul
Take off Perrotta - put Menez on the left.
  • Bashar
desperate defending and definitely plenty of luck for us.
  • Dhaw
    There goes my 50 bucks.
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Toni has got to be pumped by the crowd. Do it for us!
  • Tottigol
    damn Pirlo almost dictated!!!
  • ethan
    Luca. Avanti!
  • Rahul
    Toni is coming on..
  • Bashar
lUCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA TONI!! on for Baptista. 4-4-2 formation. Perrotta on the left.
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
    LUCA!!!!!!!!!!
  • Matthew Totaro
    Thank god Luca.
  • Dhaw
    aaah vuci
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
I reckon goal against the run of play for us.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Where is Burdisso?????????

    This is unbelievable.
  • Gollum
cmon ref, call it both ways
  • Dhaw
    Cassetti on the left

    Motta in for Riise.
  • Bashar
Not sure how we've survived so far.
  • MJ
@dhaw 3 subs? r u crazy this is RANIERI be happy with 1 at the 60th!
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Riise needs to come off. He is fucking up. Even if we have to bring Motta on for him. Toni is coming on I think.
  • Rahul
Wow, that was lucky. A draw, at this rate, would be a miracle.
  • adam
Boriello is a fool, lets us off, Huntelaar was free
  • mimo
Boriello clearly seeing a free teammate and goes for the angled shot instead.
  • Matthew Totaro
Thank God the rest of Milan sux.

If Pato were in here, we'd be down 4-0.
  • gigi
Its like roma has 9 men and is the away team .. wtf?
  • Gollum
    JSB!!!!!!
  • mimo
okay. this is looking like impending disaster.
  • Dhaw
    greeeeeeedy !!! what a tart !!
  • gigi
How lucky roma are that Boriello is a pile of shit lol
  • Matthew Totaro
    OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Riise, how did Boriello not score?????????
  • MJ
THANK god boriello is fucking up!
  • Dhaw
Cerci needs to come in for Taddei.

    Menez for Baptista.

    Toni for Perrotta.
  • MJ
Ranieri never makes changes and never shouts. HE WILL NEVER MAKE A SUB at the right time
  • Gollum
faaaaack, no way that was a foul!
  • mimo
i agree. that did not look like a foul by Vuci.
  • Rahul
    This is getting shameful.
  • Matthew Totaro
Bullshit, that was no foul on Bonera.
  • mimo
what is going on with Riise? they r just shooting the ball into space for no reason.
  • Rahul
Did Ranieri scold the boys for attacking too much in the first half or something. Or did they all smoke pot in the half time break?
  • Dhaw
Nah. We preparing ourselves for a goal against the Run of Play.

Watch us scoring the first and watch Milan score the equalizer right away.
  • Matthew Totaro
We have to pick up the tempo and hold the ball in midfield.

This is embarassing on the offensive end.
  • Rahul
We are preparing ourselves for a royal Milan fest.
  • totti iz legend
    My God we need changes!
  • Dhaw
    Riise is AWFUL !!!!
  • Gollum
wow, we are sitting so far back
  • Bashar
Riise has really been very poor today. He let that go and gave Flamini a decent chance (albeit from a tight angle).
  • mimo
someone scoring is a matter of time now. and i suspect it will not be a Roma goal. trying to stay positive but looks like they have no cohesion in attack.
  • Dhaw
Arggh !! Riise is so fucked up
  • Matthew Totaro
If Pato was in this game, we'd be down 2-0.
  • Joe
could it be? the jolly red giant is coming on soon?
  • Rahul
Retribution from the first round Dhaw, nothing else.
  • Gollum
    uh oh... vuci :s
  • Matthew Totaro
Luca please get your culo in there.
  • Dhaw
How did Boriello miss that ?
  • Matthew Totaro
    Goddamn.

Still tons of room on the wings.
  • mimo
    oh dear..not a good start.
  • MJ
Ranieri wont make a sub and will keep defending like our lives depend on it. He will make 1 change toni for baps at 60 min and another at 75 maybe vuci for menez and he will be happy with a 0-0. But will only try for a SNEAKY 1-0!
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
We will pick up in this half. Bring Menez on!
  • Dhaw
    No Changes. Good man Ranieri
  • Bashar
When Roma are doing well KJ disappears from this blog and goes to others.. But watch him come back if Roma lose. And he will probably bring gianfranco with him too. At least alessio keeps coming by here regardless of our or their form and contributes something positive.
  • gigi
I lost £150 betting on roma to beat panathanaikos .. im gonna lose the same again tonight .. why do I have faith in you damn wolves .. making me poor.
  • Matthew Totaro
    I agree Dhaw.

    Without him we'd be fucked.

He's covered Riise's ass at least twice and Burdisso as well.

    Here we go.
  • Dhaw
Another thing that has helped is by DDR doing everything so far - it has allowed Pizzaro to settle in after coming off an injury.

He managed to get some yards in his stride and felt good to be back on the pitch. Now watch him in the 2nd half.
  • Dhaw
    Totaro,

As I said - If DDR brings his A game. The backline survives and that is exactly what has happened so far.
  • Matthew Totaro
    DDR was amazing.

He did everything. Coverage, distribution, etc.

Juan is simply to coolest MOFO ever to travail a back line. He's awesome.
  • J
I thought that half was very positive. Baptista's touches were looking better than I've ever seen which has produced something of a game through the middle of the field. The work and passing on the right side of the field: pizarro/cassetti/taddei has looked smoother than usual producing some nice offensive thrusts. Riise has let me down, i think this would be a great game for Brighi 08/09 to come on for perrotta on that left flank, because Vucinic is scared of Nesta and he is staying too far wide to do anything productive.
  • Matthew Totaro
The only highlight from the first half was Baptista being muscled off the ball by Pirlo.

The beast is more like a pussy.
  • Dhaw
    LMAOOOOOOOOO

I just went to the Milan Offside and read KJ saying F*CK Roma.

Aww how civil of him to use the *

    Douchebag.
  • Sterling
I'm worried about Burdisso becoming a liability in 2nd half.

Toni for Craptista, Menez for Perotta.

DDR's been a gladiator, and Juan's been amazing. If Ronnie can stay contained and Roma gets one in, it's golden.
  • Bashar
One shot on goal from both teams combined? haha.
  • Lucian
    Dhaw, I hope you're right!
  • Matthew Totaro
    for the second half...I mean.
  • Matthew Totaro
It'll be interesting to see what Claudio has up his sleeve for the first half.

Leonardo was pretty astute by starting Huntelaar. Both him and Bonera have opened up our right flank.
  • Dhaw
Only reason i still have no white hair is because I have worked hard on accepting this "we-give-a-fuck" attitude by our players.

It's all good. The day they play brilliant football from the start I begin to worry.
  • Lucian
We aren't pressing Milan back, and we are resorting to play counter attack, and a few too many long balls. We need to get the midfield back on top, and force them into mistakes. Not a good first half. We gotta believe we are better than them.
  • Gollum
It's natural that both teams would start a bit apprehensively... 2nd half will have some fireworks.
  • Matthew Totaro
Toni on for Baptista, Menez on for Perrotta, then Brighi on for Taddei.
  • kurdt
All Roma need are some magical words from Claudio in locker room.
  • ForzaRoma
we need to fully control the midfield
i say brighi over perrotta or toni over perrotta + baptista moving to treq position
  • Joe
I think ranieri wants to smash and grab this bitch. late toni goal.... or something else entirely. in any case i think 2nd half will be more interesting
  • Dhaw
Jeez. You guys get nervous very easily. This is Roma ladies and gents. Stop behaving as if you have never seen Roma do the exact thing for years.

You should have been used to all of this by now. This is normal when it comes to Roma.

See how different this team is going to be in the 2nd half and then watch how they going to run like headless chicken from the 80th minute onwards.
  • mimo
expecting a substantial change in attitude & tactics from Roma in the 2nd half. so far it has not been un-Ranierilike...
  • Dhaw
I don't think any coach can go with that plan in a home game against a opponent who we need to beat.

Ranieri went in with the right idea its just the players are too slow off the ball which is forcing us to loose the ball easily.
  • Tomanista
    This is boring...
  • Matthew Totaro
We're sitting back in defense and giving Milan tons of space in the midfield and in the wide positions.

Offensively we have to do something, and defensively I'd like for us to pressure Milan in the midfield.

Please bring on Toni and Menez.
  • Gollum
Good news is that we kept Ronaldinho out of the game
  • mimo
looks like Ranieri's plan was to defend after the first 20 mins in the first half.
  • Bashar
Best chance of the game was Baptista's shot that was tipped over the bar.
  • Rahul
Like I said, "safety first", that is the approach.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Thank god. First half over.

    That half sucked.
  • Dhaw
For me Taddei is ruining a lot of things.

Cassetti has been asked to stay back so the only attack thats happening at the right is from Taddei and he is sleeping today.
  • Bashar
Roma looked good for 20 minutes and Milan have looked good for 5. During the rest of the half, both these teams have been wasteful in possession.. Very scrappy.
  • Dhaw
We are just too slow off the ball. That's the problem today. We are allowing them enough time to close us down.
  • Matthew Totaro
DDR is doing everything for this team.

Cleanup, midfield distribution, runs into the box.

Him and Juan are only players in the fuckin game.
  • Dhaw
Just having the ball and shooting from distance doesn't make anti-inter look any good u know.
  • Bashar
I agree that we need to get some more possession.
  • Dhaw
Both teams have been poor. It's not just us. Even this Anti-Inter folks have done nothing till now
  • gigi
Is roma even gonna attempt to attack tonight? Deep deep deep .. Milans gonna win the battle of the dull.
  • Tottigol
Is Riise our Mexes for the day?
  • Matthew Totaro
We have to hold onto the ball in the midfield.

    Milan have all the possession.

Luca has to come in and hold the fuckin ball up.
  • mimo
looks like Roma is playing for a 0-0 at HT.
  • Dhaw
I so want to have a go @ Riise.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Perrotta has sucked.

    Taddei has done nothing.
  • Dhaw
Come on. Someone tell te ref Burdisso is not playing for Inter.

    Please.
  • Rahul
Perrotta is having a horrible game IMO.
  • Dhaw
wow that was a dive. fuck this
  • Matthew Totaro
Riise overrun his challenges and overcommitted.

He's given up a lot of space on that right side.
  • Gollum
    Pizza man a little rusty
  • totti iz legend
yes, whispering luca toni indeed, he still wants to prove himself i think, and probly wants to show he is fit again.
  • Dhaw
hahaha some of u need to stop smoking some bad stuff.
  • Matthew Totaro
What the fuck is Perrotta doing???
  • mimo
wth is going on with Roma's passes? they have been shocking in last 10 mins.
  • Rahul
De Rossi is a legend. He has saved a lot of asses today.
  • Bashar
Toni, Menez AND Vucinic? Too much attack right there. That should only be necessary if we're chasing the game and I pray to God we don't get into that situation.
  • DeGuilio
Simone is garbage without Totti. pure shit. Perrotta and Taddei have to seen the door next year.
  • Bashar
Riise has been poor today.. I must admit that.

Pizarro has disappeared which gave Milan the midfield. We will start ticking again when he gets into the game. But Milan have not really troubled us yet, but we aren't creating chances either.
  • adam
De Rossi has been a machine, Perrotta has been everywhere and nowhere at the same time, he cant seem to hold a proper position on the field...
  • Rahul
The first touch from Baptista is still legendary.
  • Matthew Totaro
    DDR covering for everybody.

Fuckin Perrotta has got to come off.
  • Dhaw
Simone might have not done anything offensively but defensively he has closed down well
  • Daniele has been an absolute monster today.
  • mimo
2 potentially costly mistakes by Riise already.
  • mimo
the players look like they have lost motivation already. wierd.
  • Joe
I know menez would be lovely, but i think this game is whispering "luuuuuca toooooooni"
  • Dhaw
Oh man Burdisso took a knock there to save us
  • Matthew Totaro
Baptista and Perrotta have to come off.

    We need Toni and Menez.
  • Rahul
And now the usual question: Has Taddei done anything of note today?
  • totti iz legend
i would really like to see Menez for perrotta
  • adam
Pizarro has been present, its perrotta whos gone off the boil a bit
  • Dhaw
    They are slow and lazy.

    Just toooo fucking slow.
  • Matthew Totaro
How the fuck can Baptista be muscled off the ball by Pirlo???
  • Matthew Totaro
How the fuck can Baptista be muscled off the ball by Pirlo???
  • Dhaw
They are playing crosses in to nobody.

How many times ppl have to remind this team that they are good when they play the ball to feet.
  • Dhaw
Pizzaro is invisible. Baptista gone to sleep. Taddei thinks its his bday and he has earned his day off.
  • mimo
not liking what i'm seeing in the last few mins.
  • Lucian
TottiIsLegens, great stream thanks. We are giving Milan too much respect. They press right up to our box, we hover behind the halfway line. We need to get at them, push them back.
  • Rahul
We need Menez! We really do.
  • Rahul
@mimo Good. ;) The Rolandinho does not stop though. Damn the FSC.
  • Dhaw
    MENEZ MENEZ MENEZ !!!!
  • Tottigol
    Cassetti got burned...How surprising!!!!!
  • Gollum
yikes... keep Ronaldinho away from the ball!
  • Sause
rise looks like junk today. this is not giving me warm fuzzy feelings...
  • mimo
ronnie touches the ball once. and creates a good chance for Bori. scary.
  • Bashar
This is what Rolandinho can do if he gets a yard or two.. We need to take charge of the game again.
  • MJ
Fuck better watch out for 'dinho's passes. Risse is being TARGETED!
  • mimo
@rahul. that is the highest praise the brit pundits are getting from me ever. :)
  • Dhaw
    Fucking Riise just fucked up
  • Bashar
I think it's been many of them. Not the usual muppets from sky or whatever. Even these FSC commentators (Whittle/Visca) have said it a couple of times.
  • Rahul
Nah mimo, you give them far too much credit there. They ain't that smart.
  • Dhaw
It's shocking how poor Pirlo has become when it comes to corners and FK
  • totti iz legend
  • Dhaw
Okay Corners is what i dont like
  • mimo
wud the pundits be brit? maybe a subtle slight at Calcio to indicate that unknown names from Brazil play in italy. :)
  • Dhaw
I don't know why we playing the ball wide to the over lapping FB when we don't have Toni on the pitch.
  • Bashar
A lot of pundits have been calling him Rolandinho this year.. Which is weird because he's not really an unknown.
  • Rahul
Who the hell is Rolandinho :P (at least that is what I am hearing on my stream)
  • spencer
    any good streams
  • Dhaw
Our version of Capt. Jack Sparrow is just too nerdy
  • Dhaw
Milan beginning to look like anti-Inter.

    Sure.
  • mimo
milan beginning to get into the game now.
  • Bashar
Milan are getting into the game now. We need a goal to be a little more comfortable.
  • adam
our counterattack isnt what you would call razor sharp
  • Dhaw
Sigh @ Riise. He is so bad at defending
  • mimo
    nice challenge Cassetti on Pirlo.
  • mimo
@dhaw. Beckham did not start, right?
  • Matthew Totaro
Beckham is not in the game.

We're giving away a bunch of space out wide.
  • Dhaw
    Ah sorry. Beckham didn't start
  • mimo
@bashar- its cassetti's attempt to get a stuntman role for JOhnny depp after his Roma days (which may soon be over).
  • Bashar
Is Beckham on the field/ I don't think so.
  • Dhaw
Did beckham put in a ball yet ?
  • Matthew Totaro
Fuckin Pizarro is so important for this team.

Look at how he conducts that midfield.
  • Bashar
What's with Cassetti's combover or whatever that silly haircut is.
  • mimo
    Ambro yellow card soon?
  • Bashar
Juan has been absolute quality so far today.
  • Bashar
That was funny.. Pizarro is useless in the air.

Pirlo and Ronaldinho have done nothing so far. I fear that it's only a matter of time before they get into the game which is a scary proposition. So far Milan have been playing long balls up to Boriello and Huntelaar.
  • Dhaw
Vucinic is having a bad game already @ passing. Expect a wonder goal
  • mimo
Oh God. WHY IS PIZARRO MARKING BORIELLO??!! lol.
  • Dhaw
    I so love Boriello.
  • Dhaw
Has buckteeth touched the ball yet ?
  • mimo
@adam. second that. Vuci shitty for 99% of the game = Vuci scoring out of nowhere.
  • mimo
Nesta had a terrible game in CL- wish he had saved that blackout for today.
  • Dhaw
DDR has his A game on. You can say so when he distributes the ball the way he already has done in 11 minutes.
  • adam
Vucinic has been horrible so far, which probably means hes gonna score soon
  • Matthew Totaro
    Come on Mirko????
  • Dhaw
    LOLL @ VUCI
  • Matthew Totaro
Sandro Nesta defending is a goddamn thing of beauty.

The most technically gifted defender ever.
  • MJ
shit passing by vuci so far
  • Dhaw
    JUAN !!!! SMOOOOTH
  • Dhaw
This is going to be some spalletti style slick passing game.
  • Matthew Totaro
Look at DDR's distribution in the midfield.

    He's amazing.
  • mimo
Baps may be a player who has a better shot from outside the box than for tap-ins.
  • Dhaw
Holy fuck. Cassetti looks like a younger version og Johnny Depp.
  • Joe
holy shit! did baptista just get a shot on goal from outside the box! YESSSSS
  • Dhaw
50 bucks on Baps. He better be worth every penny
  • Matthew Totaro
    Fuckin Burdisso better wake up.
  • mimo
    nice try by the Beast.
  • Bashar
    Great shot from Baptista..
  • Matthew Totaro
    Baptista!!!!!
  • MJ
    ARGHHH BAPTISTA
  • mimo
riise is quite a sight w/ the red shorts + shirst + head.
  • Bashar
Not sure what the deal with these passes in the final 3rd is.. straight to Abbiatti.. every one.
  • A week off has done wonders for Perrotta and Taddei.
  • Bashar
Julio Sergio would have sent us into a frenzy if he was in goal.. and look at this season. Best sight of the year.
  • mimo
    hating these stabbed long balls.
  • Dhaw
Vucinic is being made play deep. Joy.
  • mimo
have to say that last season I wudn't have believed the sense of relief I felt on seeing Pizarro on the pitch.
  • Dhaw
Just look at the space Milan has already started to give us.

This is going to be fun
  • Rahul
    Arrghh, De Rossi!!!!!!!!!!!!1
  • Bashar
Not sure why DDR just wasted possession there.
  • Matthew Totaro
What skill from a holding midfielder.

Not another in world with that skill set.
  • mimo
oohhh...DDR. what a goal that could have been.
  • Dhaw
    Mamma Mia Daniele
  • Bashar
oooh.. nice try by De Rossi..
  • Matthew Totaro
    DDR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Bashar
    Perrotta's shin.. not shoulder.. typo
  • Bashar
Flamini was lucky not to get a yellow
  • Bashar
karate kick from Flamini. studs straight at Perrotta's shoulder with no interest to play the ball
  • mimo
wow..nasty challenge by Flamini in the first seconds.
  • Joe
When was that game when cassetti scored the only goal? Maybe this will be one of those games when cassetti reminds us he's still worth being on the payroll.... to some degree anyways
  • Matthew Totaro
    Here we go!!!
  • Rahul
    Good job Dhaw! :P
  • Dhaw
    BRILLIANT ATMOSPHERE !!!

    Mamma Mia. Beautiful
  • Matthew Totaro
    Rosella!!!!!!!!
  • mimo
stop Pirlo + Dinho = no feed in balls to attackers for Milan. Cant remember much about Pirlo's assists this season= he's been quiet.
  • Bashar
    What's wrong with Mexes?
  • Dhaw
I got me some beer in a coke cup @ work.
  • Lucian
The beers are chilled, but no live stream... any pointers?

I think Vuci will do well, and Menez will come on and do some magic.
  • mimo
hope cassetti is not left to defend vs Dinho alone- that could be a nightmare.
  • Dhaw
Stop Pirlo and 40% of the job is done.
  • Joe
I think we can expect 2 goals to slip by w/ the Milan line-up... though it seems like Klaas has been more of a supersub for AC. We'll hope defense is on lockdown
  • Anna
  • Bashar
Let's go.. I have a good feeling about this game.. Not sure about Cassetti on the right against Ronaldinho but whatever. The rest of the lineup looks good. Baptista on the left is fine.
  • Matthew Totaro
I have a feeling Ranieri will try to absorb Milan pressure and then open it up a little in second half, like he did against Napoli.

I'd like for us to hold onto the ball a little bit in the midfield with Pizarro back in the lineup, but we'll see.

I think we'll be patient and be playing for the counterattack in the first half.
  • Dhaw
I love with what Ranieri is trying to do here. He for sure doesn't want to get carried away by this whole anti-Inter nonsense and in the process field players who are not upto the mark.

he is reading the game well and yes there will be times he will be making blunders but hey lets appreciate the fact that we have a coach who has a plan b.
  • mimo
I think Ranieri will try to keep it tight for the first 20-30 mins so they settle into the game. and then we will see more attacking. The dream would be a sneaky Vuci goal before Milan even know what hit them!
  • Gollum
hmmmmm.... I really dont like the Huntelaar vs. Burdisso match up... in the past (at inter), Burdisso gave away too many PKs against quick forwards
  • MJ
FUCK ME CASSETTI AND BAPS WTF
  • Tottigol
I was being figurative in my rhetoric there when I said "backpass to Pato" . Oh well, I've never been good with high quality humor anyway.
  • Gollum
    Almost kick off time!!!!! WOOOOOOO

    I LOVE THIS TEAM :D:D:D
  • Rahul
We are not going to go for a win in this match. Ranieri is a "don't lose" sort of coach (yes, I still think he is) and I am sure he would be happy to pocket a point from this match. However, with a full Olimpico, true Romans like De Rossi might get crazy ... :)
  • Dhaw
I hope they telecasting this game in Brazil.
  • Dhaw
This is going to be a battle of Brazilians.
  • Matthew Totaro
A 4-3-1-2 with Buckteeth behind Huntelaar and Boriello.

Put Juan on Boriello, Burdisso on Huntelaar, and DDR on Buckteeth.

    Clamp that shit down.
  • Dhaw
Not to forget Milan has Bonera and Antonini as the full backs - they can be eaten for dinner as well.
  • Dhaw
Milan is running a 4-3-1-2 today
  • Matthew Totaro
    Huntelaar is starting for Milan...hmmm.

    What formation will Milan run???
  • Dhaw
    Hunter starts.
  • Dhaw
    Tottigol - No Pato
  • Matthew Totaro
    Tottigol you're right.

Cassetti does some dumb-ass shit at times.

Motta is a bit reckless, but I like his energy and ability to move forward.
  • Matthew Totaro
I'd rather see Burdisso in the center than Mexes. Putting him on the right would be a waste.

Philou hasn't looked good at all.

It's a tough decision, but if I were Ranieri I would go with Motta.
  • Tottigol
    Marco 'Backpass to Pato' Cassetti?
  • Matthew Totaro
The Cassetti/Motta debate is pretty tough.

Motta certainly takes risks defensively, but he would give us a crossing ability that Toni could potentially use in the first half.

With Cassetti you never know what your going to get, a great performance or a debacle.
  • jed
i can't see baptista playing well... but oh well. if he's playing i hope he does well. happy b-day taddei and forza roma
  • Dhaw
I am pissed off @ Marco Cassetti but today he had to start instead of Motta.

Burdisso on the right is a waste so it had to be Cassetti
  • Dhaw
Tottigol - I would rather see Cassetti there who would stay behind with Buckteeth rather see Motta who is never behind when the team needs him.
  • Tottigol
MArco Fuckin Cassetti??? Goodbye 2nd place.
  • Dhaw
I have again put 50 bucks on Baptista today.
I don't know why he keeps making me believe in him.

Promise this is the last time I am putting money on him
  • Matthew Totaro
Baptista starting in front of Toni..hmm.

I hope he has a big game as well.

Maybe earn us a penalty and take it. That is the only thing he's good for.
  • Matthew Totaro
This match will surely be a decider for the second spot.

In all likelihood Milan will continue to bulldoze weaker opponents, so we'll have to continue to win against everyone except Inter.
  • Dhaw
A disp.: Doni, Mexes, Motta, Toni, Menez, Brighi, Cerci.

    I like the bench.
  • Dhaw
I just have this feeling that today Baptista is going to have a BIG BIG role to play in getting us the 3 points.
  • DB
    LE FORMAZIONI UFFICIALI
ROMA (4-2-3-1): Julio Sergio; Cassetti, Burdisso, Juan, Riise; De Rossi, Pizarro; Taddei, Perrotta, Baptista; Vucinic.
  • Matthew Totaro
For some reason, Menez always has a good game against Milan.

He's shit against everybody else; but brings his A-game against Milan.

I'd like to see Toni start as well. Get him some minutes, then if he sux, bring in Baptista in the second half.

If Perrotta is healthy, I'd like to see him out there in the first half, and then us Menez in the second.
  • Dhaw
Even if we don't get all 3 points today , we still will be fine @ the 3rd spot and then the next few weeks we will have some games which we will be able to do just fine and get all the bodies back for the big game of the season vs Inter.
  • Matthew Totaro
We will definately need a solid perfomance from DDR.

Buckteeth is so dangerous from those trequartista positions.

Stick DDR on him a try to rub him out.

I'd like to see Pizarro use Toni's aerial ability in the box and see Vucinic's skill on the offensive side.
  • Dhaw
    I hope he starts TONI.

Give Toni 45 mins and throw Menez in for the remaining 45 mins. Toni won't be effective if he is thrown in the 2nd half.
  • Matthew Totaro
    That is certainly possible.
  • Dhaw
Defense is only going to remain in shape if DDR is planning on bringing his A game today.

He plays good and the ppl behind him will be at their very best as well.

DDR has a bad game or a decent game - just watch the backline in tatters
  • Dhaw
I think he might surprise many by throwing Pippo in
  • Matthew Totaro
If we can contain Buckteeth, and no Pato to worry about; defensively we should be okay.

Do you think Leonardo will start Huntelaar or will he be coming off the bench???
  • Dhaw
I am sure cassetti will start on the right and his job would be to stay back at all times.

Lot of action for us is going to happen from the left.
  • Matthew Totaro
Boriello is certainly a threat, and is in form.

Ranieri should stick Juan on Boriello and stick DDR and Burdisso on Buckteeth.
  • Dhaw
I hope Ranieri doesn't get obsessed with Buckteeth and let Boriello free.

For me Boriello is much more important to keep in control than Buckteeth.
  • Dhaw
Now only if our players don't disappoint the one's who have come to the stadium like they did against Pana.
  • Matthew Totaro
The Olimpico is going to be booming.

Over 70,000 in attendance. Curva Sud 2x.

It should be an incredible atmosphere.
  • Dani
how was that not a penalty for fiorentina?
  • elmi
wish i could be at olimpico... and for those who are lucky enough to be there i wish you a fantastic time! and yeah for roma to win, forza roma!
  • Matthew Totaro
    Beautiful flick by Grosso.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Goal Grosso
  • Matthew Totaro
It'll be interesting to see how rusty JSB, Pizarro, and Toni are.

Glad to know that we have someone reliable in between the sticks, our little engine in the midfield, and someone who can hold the ball up and have a physical presence in the box.
  • Matthew Totaro
    Ciao Romanisti!!!

Any word as to what the lineup will be???

Is JSB, Pizarro, and Toni all ready to go????

Here's what I would like to see...

    JSB
    Motta Mexes Juan Riise

    DDR Pizarro

    Taddei Perrotta Vucininc

    Toni
  • Tim
  • Tottigol
I've tried and tried to hate the Ladri less, but it just isn't happening. It just sucks that they have some players everyone likes, like ADP,Buffon,Giovinco, Chiellini et al.
  • adl
when i went to rome 2 months ago literally the first thing i ate was a kebab. :) definitely good food "da portare via". i will be watching this in the library, trying not to make too much noise, and jealously wishing i was in rome/any location with more than 5 romanisti around.
what became of the roma flag link? i'm going to try to win a cheap one on ebay today.
  • Hondo
Juve with a classic offside goal..
  • ash3
    milan here we come
  • Stefano
Brento (asr)I am so jealous, have good time. Hopefully Roma will win.
  • romanord
Where is everyone watching the game? I wouldn't want to end up in a bar "di Milanisti"
  • gio
the concern for right back is serious, but i am also worried about Dinho vs. Burdisso. despite his skill and athleticism, Dinho can also be quite a dirty player. if he goes all capoeira on Burdi, the little Argie could get cuckoo for cocoa puffs and we will be seeing more red than a bloodhound with a weed problem. other biggest concern is the reffing. as seen in the video the last game was really such bullshit ... hopefully Tagliavento will be a fair arbiter.
  • Jonas
wow I wish Roma would tear Milan apart tonight just like our primavera are doing now against Gallipoli: 5-0 already,Pettarini and Scardina shows
  • adam
    awesome, AWESOME pic ked...
  • mac
    Happy B-Day Rodrigo!
  • mac
    AS Roma Primavera: half-time 4-0 Roma-Gallipoli
  • Jonas
lets not forget it's Taddei's birthday today!
I hope he will give Roma,Ranieri and us fans a nice present!
  • mac
Yeah I posted that earlier Brento, It appears that there is a difference in opinion between the trainers and the coaches when it comes to what "fit" means.
  • brento (asr)
romagiallorosa is now saying that it's a 4-2-3-1 with Baptista as the prima punta. I really hope this is not the case.
  • hanif
should be great to watch it at the olimpico! enjoy it guys!
hope we can get back to winning, the way the europa oddysey ended and the draw against napoli makes me quite worried.
    forza roma!
  • brento (asr)
    Alex,

It's quite difficult to eat un piatto di penne arrabbiata while you're walking to the stadio. Unless of course you want dinner at 18:00. Why not pizza? It's just a kebab kind of day.

I would like to see menez get on the field also, especially if Toni is not yet 100% fit.
  • Donut
Durs...I'll be there for at least game time. I'll be the one with the Roma scarf ;-)
  • ked
Let's hope ddr has Milan on the back foot again...

    http://i689.photobucket.com/albums/vv254/ked18_2009/ddr_milan.jpg

    classic photo!!
  • alex
your in rome and you want to eat a kebab??? seriously?
  • Jonas
Burdisso isn't a real Roma player for now,he's only on loan and has not been here for ages like a Mexes,DDR,Taddei,or even JSB for that matter.

but the way he shows his grinta, his passion when he scores or celebrates with others,I have the feeling he quite loves this team and city, much more then at Inter.

I like the lineup, but hopes Ranieri keeps the 4 2 3 1 with Vuci as LW and Toni up front.
  • brento (asr)
Ticket prices did drop! Mine was 11 euro plus 1 euro for a fee. I'm in the Curva Nord because the Sud sold out in a few hours and I wasn't even in italy when the tickets went on sale.

I can't believe the timing, I arrived in Rome on Monday and the first home game is against Milan and it sells out, first since scudetto year in 2001, and I have a ticket.

Think I'll grab a kebab around six and head out. Non vedo l'ora!!!
  • Brian
@ alessio: you're damn right he does. shows what a real team can do for a man who has spent a good deal of his professional career at a soulless money machine.
  • David
DURS!!! I live in NYC and would love to head to Stout (on 33rd?) but I have class tomorrow (DVRing the game...). If you wanna shoot me an email when the Romanistas meet for a game I'll definitely be there, or wherever...davidpodhaskie@gmail.com
  • kistajk
Got a dream last night of J. Sergio completely beaten by a curling kick from our right side of the pitch, probably Ronaldinho (like that goal he scored a few weeks ago).

Or maybe nightmare from Ninis' kick still ingers around.
  • Jacob (Forza Roma)
Eagerly awaiting this match. Toni-Vucinic combo should be very effective. Burdisso should play RB simply because Motta attacks way to much, and can get caught out quite alot.

    Roma 2 - 1 Milan

    Vucinic, Toni
  • agiamba
I envision problems at the next family reunion.

Yes, 6 months at Roma (after being at Inter for ages) mean Burdisso prays to the Pantheon on a daily basis.
  • Caroe
Damn, I'll miss the first full house since... May 2001???

Hoping for a huge game, though.
  • Sause
Durs, I'm in SJ and have to work tomorrow but I'd be game in the future. email me at sause @ inbox dot come
  • jed
doesn't surprise me about burdisso's brother... there are a lot of argentines on that team. but should make the derby that much better
  • ked
  • Luca Toni .... you must be killer oke
  • I almost feel like Guillermo was just saying that to bug Nico - they definitely have an advantage, especially in CB/RB. Eh, eh?
  • The only people who regard Rosetti as Italy's best are the ones that don't watch Serie A on a regular basis.

I genuinely don't know a single decent calcio fan who thinks he's anything but an insult to his profession.
  • Bashar
Rosetti is a dsigrace of a referee.. and the fact that he's widely regarded as Italy's best and one of Europe's finest is a travesty.
  • Outside of game mode for a second...holy feckin' shit:

According to his agent, Rosario Central defender Guillermo Burdisso is ready to make the jump to Serie A and has chosen Lazio as his ideal destination.

“He loves Lazio,” said agent Ulysses Savini. “Lazio definitely have an advantage over the other clubs.”

That would be Guillermo Burdisso, brother of Nicolas Burdisso and Roma target.

I envision problems at the next family reunion.
  • Milan is Vuci's prey
  • Soul
Milan typically plays thru Ronnie & Pato & are predictable. In the La Liga, Ronaldinho's influence in the team diminished when opponents started to clip his movement & makes him play with his back to the opposing team or pushed sideways. Whoever has the longest legs & loves body contact should do the trick!!
  • Michel
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvCYy71ISpk&feature=related

Seriously, isn't that the most genius headline ever?

    lol
  • amir
It will be an interesting game! As both sides have something to prove here!
Milan needs to show that they are scudeto contenders + they want the believe for their CL game against Manchester.
Where as Roma needs to show that 16 unbeaten wasnt just luck but hard work and if they win Milan everyone will think of Roma as favorites after Inter!

Cant wait to see who Ranieri will put in but i m very very afraid of our right back Cassetti or Motta who will have to deal with Ronaldino.
Thatsf our weakest spot and thats where most dangerous Milan is!!!
I m not afraid of our midfield or attack or our Centerbacks!
Glad to see sergio back. I hope Mirko can do one of his 2008 games against milan and if he does we ll be fine. Welcome Toni but i don't know if should start. I agree with Chris against MIlan we should go with Menez who has speed. And than in second half throw in Toni!
    Good luck Roma!
  • Durs
To anyone in the NYC / NJ area, were assembling a group of Romanista’s to Stout a bar in NYC for the Roma v Milan match to get drunk and out of control.
Anyone who is interested come on by.
  • siraj
Would rather Motta or Burdisso at RB because of Ronaldinho, they are more physical.I agree with you chris on Menez, get him out to run at these guys.
  • Tottigol
Damn that was ugly the last time around, wasn't it? I think Burdisso is going to need a sniper gun maybe to take down Dinho.
  • mac
Picking the RB would keep me up all night, if I was Ranieri.
  • Michel
I think Toni will head a goal in from a corner.
