Maldini On Roma
By: chris | March 12th, 2008
I’ll put something proper up a little later, but I just wanted to get this out there. Paolo Maldini has put forth his thoughts on Roma and the legend himself is one of the very few people that I will listen to intently and heed his words blindly. One who has earned such respect from the masses and a man who, quite frankly, knows what the hell he is talking about. He talks, you listen:
“We are expecting a real struggle against the Giallorossi,” the legend conceded.
“They play the best football in Italy and have managed to find some consistency, even after a few delicate moments recently.
“They progressed in the Champions League where we didn’t and showed that they have a stronger character than Real Madrid.
“We will be up against a strong unit with big players such as Francesco Totti, Mirko Vucinic and Amantino Mancini and we will need to chase everything down.”
To hear that Roma plays the “best” football and not the “prettiest” or most “beautiful” is something we’ve been waiting to hear for quite some time. It speaks volumes that Roma is the only Italian team left in the Champions League and have earned every last drop of praise they’ve acquired over these last few weeks. With Inter stumbling (losing 3 of 6 and winning only 1 of 6) and Roma attacking the scudetto mountain with vigor, it’s high time to get excited again. Especially when an iconic man of such class bestows that label upon your squad.
Stronger character than Real Madrid? I believe so:
“I won things with that shirt and I know what it means. In no other city does a victory mean as much as in Rome.”
Quite simply, Roma has more to win than Real Madrid. Real just wants another trophy, Roma wants oh so much more.
And last, but not least, how far has Mirko Vucinic come to be lumped in with Francesco Totti and Amantino Mancini as an attacker who we assumed (stupidiotically) was playing out of position? An absolute European monster for Roma this season, and if I recall correctly, a man who scored a pretty meaningful goal against Milan the last time around. Here’s to a repeat performance.
(After the 70th minute or so, of course.)

DeGuilio.. Totti did play in the tie against Man Utd. He had just come back from injury. And without Totti we are still undefeated.. You also forgot the 2-2 draw with Fiorentina. I’m pretty sure there are a couple more matches we played without him.

Thought I would let everyone know that I am representing Roma in the “Offside Cup.” Played my first game today and dispatched of Barca 1-0. Hopefully I can make a nice run with our beloved giallorossi.

Hahah, so true. My apologies Chris. I played a sweeper against Barca because they are easily the best team in the game. So my formation looked like this (not realistic, but definitely the most effective way to play with Roma in my opinion in Fifa):
Doni
Mexes
Cicinho-Juan-OMR
Perrotta-DDR
Mancini-Totti-Giuly
Vucinic
Vuci scored off a corner kick in injury time (obviously he wouldn’t score early in the game) and Mancini was a handful on the wing for Abidal (I’d give him a GAS of 8 since he seemed to lose steam in the second half, but that could be blamed on TGIP for overusing his turbo button). In the post-game press conference, Amantino said his contract would be finalized within the week.Posted from

Oh, and Doni was the MOTM according to the powers that be.

I couldn’t stand mancini on the sidelines yesterday, every foul against liverpool he was waving his hand for a card. Then again, he was desperate for anything.

In lieu of this article below, what kind of purse are we pulling in with CL advancements at this point? By that I mean gates+telly rights+etc … the total net.
Chris you have anything on this score?

Come on guys, Mancini is a gentle soul. Can you imagine the pressure of having whoever player you want, or dealing with the constant nightmares of knowing that the Serie A is already dicided. He is the actual victim of all those dubious penalties given to his beloved Inter!!!
Give the guy a desrved break (refs are taking care of things anyway)and a helping hand.
He might look very midiocre on the outside but deep down….he can make a woman cry ….and a Roma fan laugh.Posted from

What is the frontpage of Il Romanista saying today about Mexes? And Gomes? We are good with Doni and Curci.
