Italy Soccer Serie A

Catania 1 – Roma 1, 64′

I’m going to throw a fit: this is stupid. Because, and if only because, teasing us with 30 minutes of Roma just isn’t cool. How am I supposed to go on and enjoy the rest of my evening when I can’t see Gabriel Heinze finally get his 432nd touch for the day? Or when I can’t internally groan at the inevitable midfield substitute while championing his presence, especially if it’s Glazed Sprinkles? Or what about my inevitable Bojan cameo? Is he going to get a proportional substitution? Will we see him for 97 seconds or something?

How am I supposed to go on? How?

I want ninety minutes, and I want it to make sense. And I want it as close to the original game as possible, so clearly everyone should be wearing floaties.

Yeah.

Roma has one sub, Catania has three – assuming none will be used unless the event of injury – while Potenza, Bergessio and Simplicio each have a yellow from the first go ’round. 25+ minutes of gametime. I think that just about covers it.

Also, the game starts just as it ended – with a Catania throw and Tagliavento being a twat.

Streams.

XI

Stekelenburg
Rosi, Juan, Heinze, Taddei
Greco, Gago, Pjanic
Lamela, Borini, Piscitella

Francesco and Daniele were substituted, which leaves Aleandro Rosi to carry the Roman torch.

Heaven help us.

Just watched this on the Roma website, thought it was worth sharing, just look at Lamela

  • iosanguinaregiallerosso

    I see a Gucci man purse !
Also who is the guy 3rd in line ?

  • masonio

     Curci it appears to be.

  • iosanguinaregiallerosso

Edit: It could be Luis Vutton.

  • masonio
  • Benattore

Cool! Was that on the site too?

  • masonio

Yeah, if you look into the page source you can grab all the pictures (sometimes much larger) without the other stuff that overlaps it.

  • ForzaTotti

That hoody looks awesome....I want one.

  • Benattore

Me too, but it's too expensive for me, exchange rates and all that

  • Gollum_ASR

If that's the same hoody I saw in the shop here, it doesn't have pockets... I mean c'mon! A man needs pockets!

Also, it was like $80.  I'm not spending $80 on a sweater without pockets.

  • Benattore

Well, I don't see any pockets so, yeah. Still looks very nice though

  • Gollum_ASR

Oh, I was definitely tempted.  But it's the principle of the thing!

  • iosanguinaregiallerosso

Just watched the Daniele interview with English subtitles.

I know now why he wears a sleave on one arm and not the other, I now know why he left his contract talks so late.

His whole arm that is being covered is going to be dedicated to ROMA ! To me it's the only reasonable conclusion I could come up with. How amazing would it be if he presented it on derby day against the goat fuckers and scored the winner !

    One can only dream...

  • Hondo

Do you have a link?? I would love to watch it with english subs..

  • iosanguinaregiallerosso
  • masonio

lol, I posted about that before. I had a dream that he told me he had to cover it up or he would lose negotiating power in the contract talks. Watch it be true.

  • michele97

i remembering you mentioning that, you have wicked dreams lol

    http://www.stylebistro.com/loo...

i think if he's covering it up it must be nearing completion as that foto was from may 2010.

doesn't look like it's completely dedicated to Roma but i see some giallorosso and some latin?

    in any case, DDDAAAJJJJEEEE DDAAANNNIIIEEELLLIIINNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • masonio

    Yeah, I'm a dreamer.

  • Bren

    Anybody know anything about this
     Filip Jankovic we supposedly signed?

  • ForzaTotti

Young Serbian attacking midfielder, won't be making any sort of impact for us until at least two years as he will remain at his current club for that time. One for the future.

  • Benattore

Yes, he's a young and inexperienced player, just like the rest of the kindergarden we're linked with. Also, DON'T LOOK IMAGES OF HIM ON GOOGLE!!

  • davidk8

God damn, why did you tell us not to look? That's counter productive...

  • masonio
  • michele97

    HEED HIS ADVICE!! ^^

‎"This is all their [FA's] fault, Capello will be a huge loss to England." "It is the same story as always: English people believe they are the masters of football, and this is the result."
    -Stefano Nava

  • ForzaTotti

No offense to anyone from there but English football is a mess from top to bottom.

  • masonio

Viareggio Cup update: We lost 2-0 today to Santos Laguna (Mexico). Both goals by Parra. We'll need to win our last one to advance to the knock-out round.

Also, about Nego - yeah, he is beasting it up in Primavera. Keep in mind Primavera = U19. And Nego is 21, older than Borini. The difference in physical maturity at that age is much bigger. I'm not saying Nego is crap, but he himself is a project. I am sure he will be loaned out next year, unless he makes huge strides.

  • Benattore

How could they lose to Santos? I'm mexican and I can tell you their youth teams have never stand out. Weird things happen, I guess

  • Jonas

aren't both Nego and Borini from 91?

  • masonio

Yes, but Borini is still 20. I used him as an example because you can just imagine the damage he would be doing in the Primavera as well.

  • ramm23

    If only Lamela played..

  • Hondo

    I'm pissed off!!

  • and we love SIENA!

  • Cesena do not want Serie A.. wtf are they doing..

  • ForzaTotti

They simply do not have the spending power/players to compete in Serie A.

  • DeGuilio

Nazio looking more likely to score a 4th than Cesana it's 3rd

  • DeGuilio

    a joke of a side

  • Hondo

Lazio-Cesena 0-2 and Konko sent off.. Nice!

  • Hondo

Unfortunately Lazio have two great players in Hernanes and Klose.. They are beginning to take apart Cesena's defence.

  • Hondo

Cesena fuck things up on purpose.. Jesus Christ they suck!

  • Hondo

And Antonioli joins the rest of the team.. Poor Cesena.

  • Hondo

It took 15 mins for Lazio to score 3 goals after the break.. I'm speechless.

  • davidk8

    Wait, what just happened?

  • Hondo

Yeah, I know I jinxed this but Lazio was so crappy in the first half and a man down..

  • davidk8

Good times.. as usual, Lazio crumble after the first half of the season.

  • MagicaRoma

    GRANDE!!!!!!

  • Jonas

I like it that we have soooo much young fresh attacking talent coming on (Lamela, Borini, Bojan, Pjanic, Caprari, Piscitella...)

but it bothers me that in defense, we don't at all, not even a single primavera who is coming through. Kjaer is the youngest and he could probably be send back to Wolfsburg in june cauz of his so so performances up until now. It would be a waste to give 8-9m for him if that money can be used for another one or to make a push for Isla or Subotic who won't come cheap. Rosi/Angel are decent backs ok but Isla/Tonetto/Riise/Panucci they are not

  • Jonas

    25min is too little?
we scored 3 against Cesena in 10min time, puhlease...

and we were coming of a major 4-0 destruction of INTER
the objective was simple this time: go for the win cauz there were already 65min wasted and we knew all the lineups and tactics in advance, I have the feeling LE and the players acted like this was more of a 'training game' than an actual 'hey we can get in a fuckin EL place and 4 points from CL place' game

shame, we hand a game in hand and with a win, things would be more or less relaxed, now we are still 6th and still trailing Inter and Lazio. We didn't lose but it's definitelyanother chance blown after the Bologna one

  • howwillthewolfsurvive

Did you forget the way Catania has played against us at home since that 7-0? If they would play like that every game they'd be in CL contention. We didn't have Totti or DeRossi. We could have won but we could easily have lost also. I'll take this point to keep the momentum. The 3 points blown against Bologna was much worse than not being able to score in 25 minutes against a super determined team.

Any chance you guys can check out my article on Roma, tell me what you think? It's post Inter, and whether Roma are turning a corner, or well...not. Please let me know your opinions, I'd love to hear them. Thank you :)

  • MagicaRoma

Does anyone knows how much truth there is in the rumours that we have lockd up Isla for next season already and we will announce it coming March?

WOuld be the BEST DR we could gt for our system. The fcat we were so quite in January market made me think Sab was already planning ahead for the summer. Better safe some cash for REAL buys in July than some panic ones in January that would only be short term. I believe we were playing smart, hence the inactivity in January.

ps: And 1 of Subotic, Garay, Rolando please. All solid central defenders in their mid 20s with potential to grow even better that should be available or 10-15mil, that is not that bad, is it? (better than a 19yr old ARgentinian imo, in attack that is fine, but in defence we need more experience)

  • Rudy_Roma

No I haven't read/heard anything about this possible Isla buy. would be a great deal though!! Also, I think we should give Nego a proper chance in Serie A. Maybe loan him to the likes of lecce/cesena? He seems to be shredding up the primavera.

On CB: Subotic, Garay, Rolando are all good, but I'd like to see some Italians. Ogbonna, Criscito, Cresczenzi, Antei etc.

  • MagicaRoma

Hehe, some Italians: some ROMANS you mean ;) Only Ogbonna &Cricito are not ours & indeed they could be a good buy, in fact I think we need TWO DC's (I think Heinze will leave in the summer & Kjaer is well..... not very sure to be staying either), so Ogbonna & another one would be great.

Criscito I see as a drwam, wont happen, he earns the world in Russia I think.... Antei is too young, give hime 2 moe years. Crescenzi? Hope he will be our futire DL, GREAT potential. Anyone knows how he is doing in his loan spel?

  • Chase

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/n...

Been linked with him in the past, would have been a good fit for our system, but there ya go...

  • AJroma4eva

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/foot...

    Good riddance I say!

  • ASR_Martino

It sounds like jail to me... No worries, he will end-up in jail anyway so he should be used to it.

    Yep. Good riddance.

  • Benattore

In an unrelated note, this week in FIFA Ultimate Team we got two Roma players, Borini and Pjanic. Here's a pic of Borini, I'll upload one from Pjanic later, right now the EA servers are down (as usual). I haven't use Borini but looks pretty solid and Pjanic has been good, but need to play some more to tell.

  • Benattore

And here's Pjanic. He's normally a CAM but I'm using him as a CDM in a 4-2-3-1. To those who care about this game.

  • whill4

I wonder what the deal is with Nego. I've only seen highlights but he looks like he is tearing shit up in the primavera. Would be nice to see him get some minutes this season. Especially with how awful our wing backs have been... we can't get any worse there can we?

  • Arfaestnes

Our wingbacks haven't been perfect, but they're hardly awful.  Taddei and Rosi have been quite good in most games, in fact, and Nego would definitely be a big step down.

  • whill4

Besides Taddeii who is 34 years our wingbacks haven't been great at all. Rosi has had a few decent runs but he forgets he's supposed to come back to help defend. Jose Angel still hasn't come back from that red card, and our other option is Cassetti...

I'm not saying Nego should be a starter or anything. But I hope he gets a little time at the end of a game or two that we've already basically won. Like I said he's looked great in the Primavera.

  • Brento Altman

    Still no highlights!?

  •  Was there any higlights? No.. Borini-chance only worth mentioning.

  • yeah, I have no clue how the game looked liked.

  • Brento Altman

Catching a 10 hours bus ride to the Peru / Chile border in 1/2 an hours.  Must see highlights before!

  • Brento Altman

    http://www.dailymotion.com/vid...

better than nothing.  What a chance for borini...

  • whill4

Get ready to be linked with Cappello immediately after LE loses his next game.....

  • whill4

    And every single loss after

  • davidk8

Airport in Catania closed due to Etna eruption. Another day wasted... First the stupid trip, now overnight in hotel and god knows when they can go back by plane.

  • Jacob

Piscitella is our best young talent in a long time. Enrique clearly likes him, and he had another good game today. Osvaldo will love those crosses coming in from the left. If he keeps progressing, I can see him becoming smarter, switching between flanks between the game, cutting into the centre, etc. I actually want to see him start the next game as well.

    Maybe...

    -----------------Borini-----------------
    ---Pisci----------Totti---------Lamela----

  • JulianJ

I thot he was pretty ineffective actually

  • Can't believe ESPN UK showed both games and I missed them. Ugh

  • Bren

    yeah, really good stream too

  • Daniello

Approved results. Otherwise've been thinking a lot Fabio Cappello is finished in England ... Oh well.

  • Giallorossi56

...well that was a waste of time.

  • DB

Capello resigned. I wonder how long it will be until the rumors start to replace Ranieri.

  • McGill

WHOA the English are NUTTY ! How can you do that leading into the Euro's when he was defending his teams Captain? I smell a France like incident for England (Which I will enjoy thoroughly now that Capello is gone!)

  • Giallorossi56

...and the English wonder why nobody takes their national team serious. Full of buffoons.

  • Johnny

Tbh Capello in his rein at england has made many boneheaded decisions, and overall was a failure as a coach their

  • masonio

Only the second highest win percentage in history for England.

  • Gollum_ASR

As an England fan and a Roma fan, I have to say that I liked Capello.

He never promised to make English football entertaining or beautiful or stylish... but he made it relatively effective.  I was OK with that.

Actually, I saw an England that played very deliberately and very tactically (dare I say, very "Italian"?).  The only thing missing was the mentality... which he was working on.

I understand why a lot of England fans didn't appreciate that; being so used to the quickness of the EPL... but I think it's nothing but short-sighted.

Capello is a winner.  And even though I'm an England fan, I back him 100% for stepping down.  The FA had no right to strip JT of the captaincy if Capello wanted him to have it.

That's the thing about winners: they don't play politics, they don't mess around... they only care about winning.  Capello wanted the team to be united, to rally behind their captain.  But the FA is playing a totally different ball-game.

    They made a huge mistake.

And now, these Euros... who knows?

  • ForzaTotti

If Inter lose again this weekend expect the rumours to start swirling.

  • McGill

Don't think Baldini isn't whispering in the ears of one DiBen.

  • davidk8

That would go against everything we're doing at the moment. Cappello, in my opinion, is finished as a coach.

  • Kilo15

Oh jesus, I almost got the record for quickest heart attack in 25 minutes!

  • XAlecX

Honestly, from how bad we were being counter-attacked in the first 65', this really wasn't the worst result. No one deserved 3 pts. here.

  • as roma fan

    total waste of time

  • Zzzzurzolo

Only 5 minutes of extra time??? Really? After all those stoppages in the first game...

This is a travesty on the part of the Italian FA. I understand that their are already rules in place, so there couldn't be a restart of the whole game or half, but they should have taken the stoppages into account in given at minimum 10 minutes of extra time..

Also, Borini had his chance to be a hero and blew it. To be fair, great save by the Catania keeper.

  • Bren

well there should be a point at which a game can be called official, in case it cannot be completed in the full 90...maybe like in the 70th minute

  • Hondo

6 points from champions league.. Matches against the top teams will be huge sixpointers!!

  • MagicaRoma

Scabdalous, waht did we expect.... 25min is way oo short, they should have abandoned the game at HT previous time or play it al over now.... Hardly anything you can do in 25min.

    And why 5min injury time??????!!!!??

Last time around out of 20min at least 10 were the ref figuring out if the ball not rolling meant anything, what a joke that man.....

    Anyway: DAJE MAGICA!!!

  • romaromaroma

Wow, what a fucking waste of time. But more than a draw would be above the realistic expectations. Gago's form has dropped a lot recently...

  • Bren

to think they waste time, fuel and money making the trip down there for 30 minutes of a game, absurd.

  • Rudy_Roma

Well, can't really say I'm displeased about the scoreline. At least Piscitella seems promising.

  • dk

The whole second half should of been played. So stupid this shit.

  • That was pretty awesome, though. They should play belting, all-out 30 minute matches more often.

  • Ahh well, we knew it was going to finish 1-1.

  • Hondo

Well, at least we got the chances to finish it..

  • Sigre

    This was rather odd.
