I remember reading (only in the Italian media) that after the Euros (2004), Cassano strutted around Roma like he was the king. So his attitude was part of his exit.
Oh, and after he left, when Totti was injured many people called (including Thierry Henry ffs), but did il capitano hear from Cassano? Nope.
The guy has a world of talent but he’s hopeless brainwise.

i really believe (rightly or wrongly, dunno) that cassano is crazy, unstable, immature, short-tempered, but i dont believe he is a bad person and let’s face it, totti has absolute power in rome– cassano is in his league talentwise and thought he was equal/almost-equal to totti. the saddest part in all of this is that i continue to believe tht cassano wud have soared to new heights only at roma– i dont think he can do it at any other club. but he still only 25, so many years yet.

Cassano is from Bari. What more is there to say?
…calm down Puglians I’m just kidding…

and while i was for donadoni taking ADP to euros based on league form, i am also inclined to think tht cassano can be the spark the azzuri may need in games where the other team is solid in mid-f and defence. i just dont see anyone else being able to provide the same spark of genius among the strikers. pirlo’s creativity is great when in form, but azzuri cud do with a genius upfront at least to come off the bench. and i am beginning to think tht cassano can pull it together mentally for 3-4 weeks.:)

SGM: There are people who would shoot you for suggesting it! I’m not one of them. But it’s such a risk. Not but a handful of weeks back he was suspended for how many games because of a temper tantrum? If it was talent and passion alone, he’d start for the Azzurri. But his bat-shit nuts factor makes him a liability probably not worth risking — especially in the ridiculous “group of death” were in where one tantrum where one ejection could see us sent home before the knockout stage.

mctalian, what u said is exactly how i’ve felt for the last few months in the buildup to Euros. but i’m wavering a bit now, since i really want the azzuri to win the euros and dont want lack of creativity to end up being fatal in any game. i just dont know wht to think abt cassano, since if he stays cool for 3-4 weeks he cud be a major factor in the azzuri charge this summer. but with him, u never know do you? he will either be a hero or a villain– no low profile, adult, humdrum professional performances for him.

as it stands id rather pippo in the euros than cassano. my family is from apulia, and i love bari, but he’s too instable to go. imagine, 2nd game, he gets a yellow unjustly, flies off the handle, sent off, and 2 game match ban.

Daniele: Whoa, Whoa, Holy Shit. I’m all for respecting Totti for everything he has done which is a lot, but the symbol of the club thing is more than a little strong. He’s one player that is already a legend, the best player Roma has produced thus far in all likelihood (although Conti was about as good as a winger/attacking mid gets) but in no way a symbol. I realize you probably didn’t mean it the way I took it, but that is a soft spot for me.
Personally, I would take Cassano for the Euros. If Di Natale goes down we have nobody to play his spot.

christmas boy is fast, and a great shot, but i dont think hes irreplaceable. inzaghi and del piero could both fill in, not necessarily his specific role, but could cover it well. im more worried about toni, who else would play for him?
im predicting camoranesi to be the star man of the tournament.

on roma though i watched the game today, cause i just got home from university (my brothers a roma fan, we switched games) and some respect for doni. i dont think he gets enough.

alessio, the reason why ppl slam doni is coz he is inconsistent- a very costly quality for a GK. for any other position it doesnt cost as many games, for a gk it often does. doni has messed up some big games for roma– yes, all gks make mistakes, but he does just seems to do it a tad too often.

Zack,
Ask anyone in and around my age, and many elders in Rome, and Italia and they will say Totti = Roma.
Conti, Totti, Giannini… etc…
These are simboli di Roma.
Listen to when Zampa calls his name…
Cazzano shat on Totti, Roma, and our direttore.
So in turn ciao cazzano.

whatever cassano did or did not do, bottomline is tht there are players at certain clubs who r the center of power (usually justifiably so). and anyone who rightly or wrongly challenges them (including coaches sometimes) have to leave. totti is that player for roma- i dont see another prodigious talent/star who doesnt really get along with totti managing to stay at roma for any decent length of time- for better or for worse. raul is prob tht person for madrid, gerrard for lvpool, henry used to be for arsenal, maldini used to be for milan but i’m assuming he’s retiring, del piero prob for juve.

ok……u guyz seem to be saying tht the scudetto wud be decided on goal difference if we end equal on pts with Argies…..tht wud nt be gud fr us…But i quite as well remember tht there used to be playoffs(abt 5-6 yrs ago)fr important positions if the teams land up on same pts. I hope tht still continues.

Ok, you don’t mean it the way I took it then. I was past the Cassano thing once I thought we were equating one person with a club that is 80 years old and has a history much greater than one person can contribute over a span of at most 20 years.
I don’t think elders in rome would say Roma=Totti literally. Totti represents Roma better than the rest, but if I said Totti=Roma in a literal sense I would be backhanded by the elders of my family.

I’m worried a lot more about our creativity than who is scoring the goals because if we’ve got nobody to cause trouble we end up with a result similar to the match against France in the san siro. A match suitable for insomniacs seeking sleep. Di natale is our most creative forward by far unless ADP can translate his recent form into national team magic. I dread the idea that we would have to rely on Inzaghi and Toni for creation because we will be looking at struggling to score goals. Of course, not having Ambrosini and Gattuso in the lineup kicks your offensive prowess up by the boatload.

Goal difference isn’t the tie breaker, head-to-head record is
Which means Inter has to not win both of their remaining matches

Fact, few can touch Cassano in terms of technical ability. Not even Totti. Unfortunately w. Totti out and also not playing for gli azzurri, the nazionale have no creative tour de force, that is where Cassano could be the man behind the curtains; but for all the reasons mentioned above, I would be very surprised, shocked in fact, if he got the call from donadoni.

this may be my irreprissible optimism, but i’ve somehow managed to convince myself that Inter will draw the last 2 games. this is the beauty of being a sports fan– think with ur heart and the impossibles seem possible.

If we end up tied with Inter… Inter win because of the two games we played against them ยด(one win and one draw in their favour)!

I was at the Milan derby yesterday, Forza Milan and Forza Roma for the Scudetto!!!! Italy was buzzing yesterday at the loss, a LOT of people believe there’s still a chance for Roma.
