SOCCER-ITALY/

Milan 2 – Roma 1

There may have been a bit of controversy about last night’s loss. Maybe.

  • “I hope that there was a penalty there for Milan, because for us there was definitely one in the first half. It’s strange that the referee was fooled when the ball was in Milan’s penalty area, but not when we had it in there ourselves.

“I don’t know where the referee was positioned for our penalty; maybe Thiago Silva made a smart challenge by fouling my player out of the referee’s sight.

“The whole world has seen what happened, so I must not say anything. Now the game is over and seeing the replays will only make things worse. We have to accept the decision, but hopefully next time the referee gets it right.” – Claudio Ranieri

  • “What can we say about the referee? It’s always the same story. We don’t know what to think any more.

“It’s a scandal – without that incident, we could have won the game.” – Mirko Vucinic.

  • “I got fouled in the first half and it should have been a penalty. How can you not give that? We are literally quiet fed up of taking it up the a***.”

“It already happened in the first game of the season against Genoa when one of their players should have been sent off for a foul on me, but the ref did nothing. We can’t take it any more.” – Jeremy Menez.

  • “I think there was a lack of respect for our fans who came here. To deny Menez that penalty… and we are not okay with the one Milan got. We had prepared well and had a great first half. That penalty was glaring, even though Menez shot and it went wide.

“The bad thing was that Rosetti was completely out of form…” – Bruno Conti.

  • “Tonight with Rosetti, we were unlucky, but with him we already lost a Scudetto for an episode which occurred in the past.”

“He did not give us a clear penalty on [Jeremy] Menez which would have closed the game, then he gave an non-existent one to Milan.” – Daniele Prade.

  • “I am very upset about what occurred, as my players deserved to win. At San Siro with Rosetti, we have already lost a Scudetto before.” – Rosella Sensi.
  • “Then there are the episodes that don’t depend on us but on the people who make decisions and should therefore be competent.” – Philippe Mexes.
  • “The penalty? There was nothing, everyone saw it on the television – I took the ball, it was clear. Even Nesta told me that it wasn’t a penalty.” – Nicolas Burdisso.

More than yesterday, more than Roma, more than anything: Roberto Rosetti is an abysmal referee – has been for some time. Serie A is less of a league with him in the fold.

Of course it’s not to say Milan posed no problem in the loss of result – it’s precisely that the Rossoneri posed none at all which was the problem. The red and yellow foot came of the pedal, yet again. It was always too easy, they’d hit them too hard off the start. Three to nil at the end of the first quarter hour wouldn’t have been unjust (or four, as it were), but their compassionate souls wouldn’t allow such a clinical absence of emotion. The hitman with the shaky trigger finger.

Rosetti then ushered Milan back in the game and the rest is history. Never had the killer instinct under Spalletti; never going to have it in six weeks under Ranieri. I think we’ve likened the perfect assassin to a great white shark and Roma to the playful dolphin, always wanting to fuck around for the sake of fun, not the result. In time they will evolve beyond their playful bottlenosed selves, but not just yet it would seem.

Milan got the dolphin, Roma got Rosetti and that’s that. Sometimes, it’s just that simple, just that unfortunate.

I sold Vuci in FM2010 for 20m to Man.U(his finishings are horrible) and get RVN for just 50k, I think it’s good business.

geez stop trying to find a someone to bash all the times

Our attack needs Vuci, we saw how horrible our attack was before viola game, Vuci puts the speed and danger of our attack and makes it more fluid. He is just off-form right now, give him time.

Agree on Vucinic. He was able to score often at Lecce and there is no reason he cannot score here if he was set up as the trigger man more often. As it is, he brings the ball in from the side and that’s where it all too often ends. Potential is clear but seems unrealized because either there’ s no one to take the pass or he is too angled to take a good shot. He does not seem to get too many passes that can be converted into goals. At any rate, he should have some scores this year and he does not. Ranieri must find a solution because if he is sold the money will be used as usual and there will be no replacement.

The problem with bitching endlessly about and to the refs is that it gets you nowhere. Have we benefited from calls since we started complaining, or does it just help us sleep at night?

I wouldn’t have given Menez that penalty: he has no moral authority. And for once I agree with KJ, he is the new Nedved in Serie A.

Yeah glad that Rossetti is gone. Screw him and I hope he realises that you cant just give dodgy decisions and get away with it. Gollum it was a pnealty. Who cares if Menez is a diver, it was penalty. If Drogba was to get his legs hacked you just dont say no, no penalty cauz he is a diver. Its a penalty and it must be given no matter what the reputation.

Sneakers I agree. I’ve slowly gotten over it, and now that Rossetti is gone I am relieved, and I feel justice has been done in a small way.

jacob im happy ur the the one calling the shots

Vucinic is the man. he will come around. If u wanna go selling players sell the players who wouldn’t matter sell Baptista or Cicinho. Ive always liked Menez, id like to see him stay n grow with Roma. Hopping Okaka can catch on as well. Roma need wingers who can score. Noone in our current midfield scores many goals. Perrotta DDR Piz Taddei will not combine for many goals. One explosive mid would be useful. Who knows maybe its not too late for Guberti?

    in full:

    Sensi ‘profoundly mad’ with referees
    Wednesday 21 October, 2009
Roma President Rosella Sensi is so angry at her club’s treatment at the hands of referees that she has written an open letter to the League’s head honchos.

Roma were incensed on Sunday night when Roberto Rosetti gave Milan a soft penalty yet denied them a blatant one. The Giallorossi ended up losing 2-1.

Claudio Ranieri called the refereeing ‘shameful’ while Philippe Mexes didn’t pull any punches either, questioning Rosetti’s competence.

“I am furious, actually profoundly mad, and I believe I am not the only one at the moment in Rome. My family has led this club for 17 years. I have lived every moment of my father’s battles,” Sensi wrote.

“I remember championships in which Roma were penalised by a number of refereeing errors. I haven’t even forgotten the fact we lost the Scudetto in the last 45 minutes against Catania, two years ago.

“I want to be clear. I am very sure that we do not find ourselves in ‘uneven dynamics’ like years ago, but evidently we live in unacceptable situations.

“I have institutional responsibilities and for this reason I have always kept a profile inspired by moderation. But there is one thing that I have the job of asserting: I would not like there to be anyone out there who thinks they can profit from our difficult start to the season, the ‘Spalletti incident’ or the fans’ protests at the club, thinking they can find a weak directorship, a disorientated team and a split fan base.

“We have a competitive team, a trainer who is capable with personality, and a strong fan base. I ask my players to make themselves compact. I don’t want to hear any more phrases like: ‘We knew how it would end’. And finally I ask the fans, even those who protest against me, to unite and row together all in the same direction,” Sensi concluded.

My friends the knee problem now appears worst than first thought. We r in deep shit. Cud be out for a long time. Yeah my anger over Vucinic has subsided. Once I thought about Baptista I realised that he sudnt be sold. Menez needs to step up. Play like he did against Milan. He knows he can do it, we know he can do it. Just gotta try harder. If Totti is out for a while, South Africa is a no chance IMO.

Vucinic is not the man and has never been. Go back and watch the kind of striking support and partnership he had a Lecce before coming here. At least unlike Baptista (around 12 million) and Cicinho (11 million), the 16 million + spent on Vucinic came in handy from time to time. I would love to get rid of all 3 and bring in some strong italian re-enforcements that will produce.

It’s not finding someone to bash, it’s realizing that all this time (pre-Baptista/Cicinho days), that Vucinic, Pizarro and Taddei were average players and not world-class or true top-4 starting material. I don’t think many fans around here analyze matches from a tactical stand-point and look at the performances with un-bias. You guys remember a goal here or there that was big from Vucinic, aka the Chelsea game, and will praise him no matter how shit he has performed for us over a general period of time. It’s ok to have bad games here and there (like De Rossi), but unlike players like De Rossi, he doesn’t bust his ass 120% and always give every inch of his body to scrape by nor has he shown the same consistency. It’s time to offload the baggage.

I wouldn’t think of selling Vuci (at leas not now!).
Same for Menez,Mexes and Cicinho. Baptista I would consider tough…

    what you wanna do,keep Cassetti/Tonetto/Taddei/…?
we know Vuci and co have the qualities,we just need right tactics AND a good run to get this team going

if we sell Vuci/Menez…who are we gonna buy? Pazzini? He can join Juve,Milan or another bigger european team. We can’t get any top class players right now cauz
    1 we play Europa League
2 we suck financially (we sold KA for 20m and we got Zamblera and Lobont, nuff said…)

we can only hope for another young prodigy to step up like Totti,DDR and KA did and Okaka/Faty are doing at the moment

so keep the squad until june, evaluate our position and change owners if things become drastical
until then, support the players and the team, there’s nothin we can do more as giallorossi
