Filler While The Media Makes Up More Rumors

By: chris | August 3rd, 2008

Just in case there was any confusion.

Agent Droppings

Feel free to now add Yossi Benayoun to the regurgitated agent quote as the press attempts to break the record for most names linked to one club over the span of one summer:

“My client, [Insert target which is potentially media bullshit here], would be very open to a move to the Giallorossi. It is a great squad with a great tactician and [Insert client's name here] would cut off 1.5 testicles to play with Totti. However, there hasn’t been any contact between [Insert said player's club] and Roma. Our lines are open and we await their call, but until then my client is a [Insert club name here] player and he is happy to remain. Also, Rosella is sexy.”

Yossi Benayoun? Really? I bet the phone call from Rafa went something like this:

“Hey Rosy, how goes it? Good good. I don’t know if you heard, but in order to buy anymore overpriced, undertalented Brits, we’ve got to sell some people and, well, I saw that you guys were looking for an attacker. So, I was thinkin’……please please please buy Yossi. For the love of god just give me some extra scratch. Something, anything. You can have him for 500 and one of De Rossi’s unwashed jock straps. That’s all. No? Come on. Fine. See if I ever give you a ginger Norwegian again.”

Remember when Roma was looking at Craig Bellamy? Yeah, British press. Or Italian press. Or just the press.

But as a plus, in the midst of research the name “Yossi” produced a Brokeback Mountain-esque movie about man love in the Israeli military called Yossi & Jagger. So if you like that sort of thing – basically if your root for Lazio and/or Inter and/or enjoy Zack Braff movies – you’re welcome.

Strikers Who Don’t Wanna Go To Rome

First is Djibs Cisse, which makes sense. It’d be like Liverpool all over again for him, and no one wants that. Simple cut and dried.

Next is Samuel Eto’o, who was in fact checked out by the brass at some point this summer. Rumor is Papa Eto’o is asking for an absolutely insane paycheck and I tend to believe it. Spalletti made it clear he’s too expensive, and though what TGIP says is often said with intent, this one seems just that.

And while Eto’o isn’t coming, it shows that the club isn’t fucking around, and they might just have more money than we think.

Spal

“We are looking for someone very physical who can play as a wide striker. Everyone likes David Silva, but he is too expensive. Lukas Podolski is an excellent player, but would not fit into our style of play.

“Florent Malouda and Julio Baptista would be good choices, but their future depends on how other transfer deals go.”

Remember a few weeks ago when Spal effectively ruled out Baptista because they’re all set in the midfield? Well this is an about turn. Or maybe he’s just offering up other alternatives because someone else is jacking the price up a bit too high. Valencia, maybe?

Though Maloudacris is sounding a bit more realistic each and every time either Robinho or Crissy Ronaldo opens their mouths to demand a new, audacious contract from someone other than their current employer. Now, as though the press needed a push, they’ve got this little winger musical chairs thing going on which is going to, supposedly, go a little something like this:

Cristiano Ronaldo plus a wagon full of Manchester’s finest hookers to Real Madrid

means

Robinho plus a lifetime supply of condoms to Chelsea

means

Maloudacris and lots of Valium for me to Roma.

And then everyone is happy. The problem is, of course, will Chanmester allow CR3.5 to exit stage Madrid? The smart money says not this summer, which makes it a bit more unlikely Real will allow Robinho to leave for Chelsea unless he throws a Chivu-esque fit.

Also, Wesley Sneijder was just ruled out for 3-6 months. Not sure what, if anything, that means for Malouda, but it’ll probably change Madrid’s mercato strategy a bit, including anything which may happen with The Beast.

But for now, this just serves as more of a reason why we shouldn’t want Malouda:

If he’s that accurate he should’ve planted it off that guy’s face for the sake of comedy. Come on.

Principality

0-0, nothing more to report. Little 40 second highlight clip here which shows Vuci looking lively and Montella missing a sitter that would even have Marco Borriello blushing.

Briefs

I)
Nobody – not a one – has made a bid for Klaas Jan Huntelaar yet.

Exciting.

II)
The Undead One, Marco Andreolli, will likely go on loan to Rimini where he can injure himself again in his first game. Ooooooh. Aaaaaah.

III)
Juan Manuel Vargas has said that the only squads superior to Fiorentina right now are Inter and Milan.

Well at least this clears up why Roma decided on the red-headed stepchild instead: intelligence.

IV)
Claudio Della Penna looks to be headed out on loan to Pistoiese in C1. Exciting times.

V)
David Suazo’s agent:

“For the moment David has a contract with Inter for the next three years,” said agent Giovanni Branchini.

“However, I am not going to close the door on Roma.”

Let another week of madness commence.

looks like were trying to make 3 signings one of which is the loan of bapt (which im all for), the next two are up in the air it looks like the price for hunt will be around 20 miln and pool want 10 miln for benayoun (way to much in my opinion). It goes on to say were keeping an eye on menez and diego milito both of which will cost around 12 miln. Id take those two for twelve a helluva lot faster then id take benayoun for 10. Dont understand the bit about crespo and suazo. It goes on to say okaka could stay indefinately, and milan are interested in adding another aarp card holder to their backline.

kj looking at the overall squad, especially in terms of starting lineup and there is absolutely no way that fiorentina is a stronger team then roma on paper even at this point

gio.. Isn’t Cisse like 26? He’s almost ENTERING his prime. His problem isn’t that he’s past his prime. If he stays healthy he can only get better and better.

Well.. both Vargas and Roma chose. His price tag was 13 million and Roma weren’t willing to spend that much given that it’s half our budget. So even if he wanted Roma we would not have paid that much for him.

I’m glad Diego Milito is back in the mix. I think the pricetags of Huntelaar and Milito are too low and the pricetag for Benayoun is too high. Menez might be a little too low seeing a Monaco want to keep hold of him.

I would prefer Diego Milito over Cisse right now. Milito may be a little older but not nearly as big a gamble. I would like to see either one at Roma and I’m pretty sure they can both do well.

Pat, I didn’t say the Viola were stronger than Roma..In fact, I still think Roma is ahead of them…But what I did say was that Vargas chose Fiorentina, not Roma… Roma pushed hard for him and he rejected

agreed bashar two broken legs for cisse already to me spells more injury trouble, not to mention i think hes more comfortable in france or england, and like you i rate milito higher. I find menez really interesting granted i havent seen a whole lot of him but ive read a lot of rave reviews on the guy, and for 12 miln i think its a steal. Id maybe pay 5 for benayoun and thats a maybe.

oo ok my bad kj misinterpreted what you said, but like bashar said it may have been more roma not willing to spend 12 miln or watever on someone of his caliber when they could get someone of riise’s caliber for 4-5miln then vargas choosing fiorentina.

i know youtube clips don’t judge a player overall, but if we were judging on youtube clips alone JEREMY MENEZ MUST COME TO ROMA.

if he’s scoring a good number of goals in the french ligue, he’s got to have some bit of skill.

what’s with all the hate on riise?
besides the dreaded own goal, i’ve always seen him as a great player. i don’t know why no one seems to think this is a pretty good signing. he’s got a good shot on him (automatically makes him better than tonetto in that department), is a good free kick taker, good defender, and seems to understand the game well.

if i’m wrong, someone please correct me.

I agree wholeheartedly asem, its amazing what an own-goal can do to ones reputation.

I also think youtube videos dont show the whole player, but those Menez highlights are impressive and show he was a great deal of skill, and being surrounded by such an excellent midfield in Roma can only help his development.

    Ferrari: serve him right
baptista: perfect to play 4-2-3-1 at Perrotta place
    Mouluda: no comment
benayoun: who? I don’t like players with blood on thier hands, please no, next
Cisse: I don’t mind him if his charector holds
Risse: why you guys are putting him down, he is solid.

benayoun is from israel. all israeli men are required to serve in the israeli army. i don’t want to say something i’m going to get kicked out for or banned from posting for, so that’s basically all i’m gonna say.

Not to get into politics too much, but I’ve never understood that point. I guess involuntary servitude for a large country associates you with any particular war crimes?

If the US still had a draft, would all Americans be culpable for soldiers who committed murder/rape in Iraq?

i definitely don’t want to get into politics seeing as i wouldn’t be exactly neutral on the topic so let’s just leave it at that.

in response to bassy’s statement, i highly doubt that benayoun has blood on his hands, seeing as he has been playing in the youth circuit since a very young age and went to the ajax youth program at the age of 15. highly doubt there was much time for him to serve in the army and if he did, probably not in any sort of combat situations.

not that it matters, since i’m not getting into it politically.
