Roma – Nananananananananan

This shit about Roma games just sneaking up has got to stop.

I know very little and am, currently and ashamedly, attune to even less. However, what I do know is this:

Identity is a rather difficult concept from which to break, to extract one’s self. Much though these few weeks have been delicious, they’ve looked really good against really mediocre competition…

Which has been the problem for so many years. Walking into the San Siro was a much easier task than asking them to play ten quadriplegics and Stevie Wonder in goal. Maybe this is a far better sign than actually playing well across the span of ninety minutes – which is still on the to-do list.

So identity. Things aren’t quite what they used to be. This isn’t your slightly older twin brother’s Roma. And yet….

Beware the masked avenger.

Also beware a midfield without Daniele De Rossi. And the defense sitting behind a midfield without Daniele De Rossi. And the suits should be on the lookout for Daniele’s agent after the game, he of the smirk and evil cackle.

And Adrian Mutu as well. He’s undoubtedly a Batman villain of some sort, the identity of which I can’t quite put my finger on. Possibly Catwoman. (Zamparini offers up another suggestion…)

You know, there are a lot more subplots for a script than a home game against Cesena would normally beckon.

Squad

Borini, Curci, Gago, Greco, Heinze, Juan, Kjaer, Krkic, Lamela, Lobont, Perrotta, Pjanic, Rosi, Simplicio, Stekelenburg, Taddei, Totti, Josè Angel, Viviani.

XI

Stekelenburg
Rosi, Juan, Heinze, Taddei
Greco, Gago, Pjanic
Lamela
Totti, Borini

Fifty percent of Borini is better than one hundred percent of Bojan.

  • Here guys, Let me brighten your day.. A funny rant by a goat fucker turned manager after being sent to the stand after kicking his player's butt...LoL..all this years, Paolo Di Canio still causing controversies

  • LOlz hes still an idiot...some things never change :/

  • ForzaTotti

    wtf..lmao.

  • Free Kjaer

Anyone know about Ravel Morrison? Transfer rumors?
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/n...

  • ForzaTotti

We won't sign him. Says right in the article that he assaulted his own mother! Roma doesn't sign trash like that. What a scumbag.

  • Sammy

Well what a game for me to miss. And just my luck Filesonic has been shut down. But looking at highlights, I'm 99% sure Totti was offside for his second goal, but I like to think of it as the soccer gods making it up to us after disallowing Osvaldo's wonder goal, in which case, I can forget about the ref's discrepancy that fateful day. It's sad though that people are only starting to recognize Totti this weekend because he broke a record. Damn North American's and their obsessions with stats. Anyways, if anyone finds a working DL link please post it!

  • Yes, its a replacement, but not for Ozzie's disallowed. That one will be replaced by a goal created by similar finesse, under similar circumstances, and on a bigger stage.

  • Francesco

Well also consider that Lamela was called offside on a play that he was on, which could have resulted in another.

  • S.P.Q.R.

Totti è grande, grandissimo, e la ragione perqué la Roma è vincente. Ma questa squadra tuttavia non mi convinca.

  • ForzaTotti

Please elaborate on why you think that.

  • I just read this
    http://www.goal.com/en/news/28...

Prandelli consedering Totti for a spot in the squad for Euro 2012

There is almost no chance he'll join but it is still unbelievable. Even at his age of 35 he is still Italy's best playmaker. Physical attributes may go away but the talent and skills will always be there

  • ramm23

Imagine he get's called up and Italy wins it. I would cry the whole night :)

  • plz prandelli

this would be the happiest moment of my life .. i would cry my eyes off if this happens ... god plz grant me this wish and i dont want anything else .. except for a car :P

  • ForzaTotti

As opposed to...you know...celebrating it? lol

  • ramm23

    Crying in happiness, that is!

  • Kilo15

One part of me would love to see him in the Azzurri again, but the other part of me would rather see him stay away from the national team to preserve his time with Roma.

  • romaromaroma

Um, why does Francescy's Wikipedia page have four pictures of him just walking around doing nothing? Those were the best pictures they could get? Haha.

  • Arfaestnes

    Youth news:

Montini bagged his first professional goal today, coming on as a late sub and scoring within minutes to give Benevento a 2-0 victory over Reggiana.

  • CobraVengeance

Please get rid of that pink unicorn shit. Not funny the first time and still not funny

  • its our lucky song so if u dont like it dont listen to it!

  • mac

It is a lucky song for this blog and it has become one for my family. While camping about a month ago, my 2 yr old woke up screaming at 2am, having a nightmare we guess. Not something she had ever done before. After about ten min of trying everything, I played pinky fluffy and she calmed down and went to sleep. Not sure how or why it works, but it does.

  • Giallorossi93

Win or lose, i am really enjoying watching this Roma play. Even if we are losing we still play interesting football. Enrique has brought back the love.

  • ForzaRoma2001

    OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • mac

    Ranieri owns Lazio again.

  • michele97

    ok.

    just saw the game...   :)

    here's the cherry; http://www.goal.com/it/news/2/...

  • brikkz

that would be so fuckin awesome...

  • Philipp_sebastian

WTF ! How can overrated Lucio and his thugs allow such simple Lazio attack scoring. They better make up and tie the game ...

  • Jonas

J Cesar / Maicon Lucio Samuel Chivu
that's one old backline Inter have there, plus Zanetti and Cambiasso on midfield and Milito in attack...

to be honest, I don't think their future looks too bright, I don't see types like Nagatomo/Coutinho/Poli/Alvarez/Obi... fighting for the scudetto in year or 2-3

  • James Robert

    *cough -sneijder -* cough

  • ForzaTotti

He could be leaving in the summer.

  • Jonas

probably to one of the Manchester clubs, he's perfect for  replacing Scholes

Check out the very bottom of that page. What's interesting to see is that the first 15 minutes of the game we are good and in 19 games haven't conceded a single goal. But the last 15 minutes we have conceded 9 goals.

I believe it's the concentration that dips once the tiredness sets in, it would be great if we work on that and get tighter during the end of the game.

  • ForzaTotti

Look at the age of our two starting CB's, Juan and Heinze. Both well into their 30's and that's the reason. Old, tired legs. They have been playing great in general though.

  • Please Please Please - whoever has downloaded the game, I request you to watch what happens at 25:52

I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeee him !! What a fucking steal after Stek !

  • Sigre

I know man, my heart skipped a beat at that pass as well. It was Laudrup-esque stuff. I am also exceptionally fond of Miralem. I can't wait to see how good he can become over the next couple of seasons. Remember when Totti and DDR called him Roma's best player? You'd think guys like them know how to spot potential.

  • I have followed Pjanic since his Lyon days and was very fond of him since then - he was never brilliant but boy he had the qualities to be one of the best in his position and to think he was only 18-19 then was something that really impressed me.  When Lyon got Yoann I was like ah fuckkk they going to ruin this kid and I hoped he'd move away to a club which will let him grow because Pjanic for me is the highly technical old school playmaker and I wanted to see him succeed as old school playmakers are a rare breed.

Believe me I never thought Roma will ever be his destination because there were other clubs who wanted him for a while too but Lyon never wanted to get rid of him and hence I was totally bamboozled when Sabatini got him outta no where and for just mere 11 odd million.

I literally went WHAT THE FUCK !!!!  A total steal for me for that kinda money.

Stek for 8 and Miralem for 11 was beautiful !!  19 million for these 2 combined and 20 odd million for Lamela was money that was well spent and will be spoken for years to come and above all the way Saba did business.   Fucked with everyone regarding Lamela , fucked Ajax with Stek with the whole Kameni nonsense and then totally looted Lyon for Pjanic on the last day !

    I heart Pjanic !

  • davidk8
  • Philipp_sebastian

The Napoli score is good although they could have even lost 3 points (Pandev equalized only 5 minutes before end). No other surprise upsets, unfortunately ...

Now all depends on tonight's game (Inter-Lazio): weird to watch a game where I hate both teams so much I almost wish they would seriously deplete their squads with mutual aggressive play resulting in 0:0 (and half of both teams suspended/injured for 2 months). Since their disgusting fans actually like each other, this will never happen. Anybody remember the "biggest scam game in history" when Lazio fans threatened their own players if they would play to win against Inter only so that our team will not win scudetto ...

Merda Lazio e Inter, uguale !!!

  • howwillthewolfsurvive

A game that will live in infamy forever. Unfortunately Lazio fans are still gloating about the fact that they scared their own players sh**less into going along to lose the game on purpose. A team without honor with fascist fans (irriducibili) I don't know how anyone could support it. I hate Inter but I want Lazio to plummet in the standings where they rightly belong so I'm happy with the result, much better than a Lazio win, we can beat Inter at home.

  • davidk8

Who could forget that shameful game. Lazio and everything associated with them knows nothing of honour. I can't wait to meet them again on the field to start a new winning streak against the biggest scum in Italy.

  • masonio
  • michele97

ehh buon viaggio a tutti voiiii, scrivere quando arrivate!

  • Jonas

Siena Napoli 1-1 which is nice!

ow and if Di Natale wasn't at Udine, they would be in relegation zone right now... well same could be said about us and Totti, Milan and Ibra etc

  • Looks like Lamela takes personal classes from Totti for all those BackHeels :)

  • Philipp_sebastian

    Great Game !!

BTW, all Swedish newapers and outlets (even smaller ones) have HUGE HEADLINES and PICTURES of Totti and the game. They usually only report of Zlatan but have shown immense respect for Totti (since he exceeded record from old Swedish guy in 50s).

I know Chris and others never liked him but Wilhelmsson (who had good technical skills and nice cameo appearances & combinations with Totti at the time IMO) has created more Roma interest and followers in Sweden. Whenever I talk football here, Totti and Roma are given serious respect unless one talks to bandwagon fans ...

  • davidk8

Someone give Sabatini a new contract, please.

What a refreshment to see our forwards putting so much work into the game. No more bloodless Vucinic, no more Menez diving, just hard work which eventually pays off. Buy the rest of Borini's contract, the guy is a keeper. And while I was happy we got Lamela back in the summer, I had no idea he would have an immediate impact on the team. The future sure looks bright!

I also can't remember the last time we had a world-class GK. That one on one situation when Stek snatched the ball, well, that's what great keepers do.

    FORZA ROMA!

  • MagicaRoma

Yes it was 'only' Cesena, but 4 months ago we lost points at home vs Calgiari & Siena, had we played Cesena 4 months ago I am sure we might have lost points as well.

I am ssssooooo happy that I finally see progress and we KEEP playing football. Doesnt matter if it is 0-0, 3-0 or 5-1, we KEEP playing with hunger and aggression and LE focusses on that.

In all honesty, the Juve draw and Napoli win didn't convince me whatsoever despite the results (1st half displays that is), but since then there is a chemistry that shows the work is finally paying off.

I'll back off from my frustration vs Enrique as he is starting to convince me, didnt look like that AT ALL even after the Napoli game.

Just hope this convidence continues as we are playing some delightfull football.

ps: Lamela, WTF???!!??? I expected a lot from the kid and thought he had great potential, but to just get thrown in a foreign league at the age of 19 and performing LIKE THAT??!?? He has been nothing short of AMAZING, what a pearl we have there, apart from his skills and vision (great execution and quick thinking on both Totti's goals), he is a WORKHORSE, no diver like Menez but very physical as well.

pps: Did I see Totti multiple times helping out in defence 20 meters from his own goal at the sideline only to be giving great 1touch passes again near the opponents box a mere seconds later? How can the guy have that stamina & resilience at that age, he is just as close to a God there will ever be!

  • FrankieASR

Nice man. Frustration is good. Pessimism and the unwillingness support the team and LE  is not. His vision may not have been that convincing but "the hunger and aggression and LE focusses on" has been there.

Everyone has been there playing there part to help the TEAM, which now everyone gets, the team comes first. LE has been able to find a place for players like Cicinho, Simpicio, Taddei, Greco, Viviani, Perrotta, Angel, keeping them hungry and ready to play when needed. This is a huge.

Totti said it again in the post game interview:
"I have always said it. After Firenze we have flipped the page"

DeRossi said it a while ago.
"When Spaletti was coach we didn't start seeing results until after Christmas"

Nice to start seeing some the old frustrated bloggers slowly creeping back. They have been very quiet lately

I can't agree with you more about Totti and Lamela. Both are exceeding there already high expectations.

One is making history while the other is still writing it.
    It's beautiful to watch.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

  • davidk8

Lamela is a gem, no doubt about it. If he continues to deliver (which I'm sure he will), clubs will come asking for him. I love the fact that he wants to stay up despite being fouled, he wants to play and not go down, and that is a trait rarely seen among footballers of today.

And well, Totti is Totti, we are blessed to be able to see him play week-in week-out. I'll tell stories of his heroics to my grandchildren some day. What I find curious is that last couple of seasons he seems to be rather quiet the first months of the campaign and then starts delivering after the New Year's. And when he does start, there is no stopping him. I predict close to 15 goals from him this season, if he doesn't get injured!

  • Kistajk

Once again shows LE improves a lot in the 2nd encounter.

Maybe he had such a bad start because he really had no idea what he was up against, but now that he's seen and learnt things, he knows what to do and how to play these park-the-bus teams.

  • FrankieASR

I'm not sure how well any coach would do with the overhaul of new young players. They need time to understand the system too ... along with players who have been in the old system needing time adjusting to playing differently.

I'm glad when patience was running out there was just enough to give all the critics the middle finger

  • Tony Page

I know he doesn't quite fit into our new team and all, but god damn I miss Risse.  He had a boot like a cannon.  Not only that, but he was a true Roman gladiator.  Had some nice things to say about Totti as well.  I better lay off the cheap canadian whiskey before I start missing someone like Loria...Check that.  Ill never miss Loria.

  • James Robert

you guys are spelling it wrong: it's "Riise wears short sleeves"

  • FrankieASR

I'm not sure I miss anyone besides our injured players. As obsessed as I have been with the mercato this team is making me forget that it's still open. The thought of what Sab is ready to surprise us with in the final hours is intriguing enough. Why fuck with magica?

Riise is probably my favorite player to have left only because of the person and fan that he is. The player I could do without. There was also that french defender who was kind of ok ... with blonde hair and tattoos? What happened to that douche?

  • Philipp_sebastian

System doesn't work making corrections: What I meant is to agree NOT TO compare them because of their characters, same as you. Motto mention that Mexes must bite himself in the ass as he almost never plays, and has nobody really admiring him in Milan while most Roma fans loved him so much. Typical case of Money can't buy you happiness as he is aging on the bench (as many have predicted) !!!

  • FrankieASR

I totally understood you in your first comment. I mean who of us doesn't love Riise?

@RealJohnARiise3:disqus "Totti: che giocatore!!! Lui é La Roma.. Che uomo e che giocatore.. Sei un grande capitano... Forza Roma, ma anche forza Totti..."

  • Philipp_sebastian

Big difference between RIISE and "Who The Fuck is Mexes now". Riise was real loyal and never really wanted to leave until they told him so, Mexes was obviously keen to move to cold San Siro (+ screwing Rosella and Roma by not even providing us any money for transfer). So, I would not compare them as I will always like Riise (while I only liked Mexes when he showed his passion sometimes mixed with stupid actions

  • masonio

I liked the great start, we will need it in the 25 min. quickie in Argentina next month.

    I'm eagerly waiting for Juve.

  • ForzaTotti

Well it seems like Catania are getting rid of some of their best players in Andujar, Ledesma, and Lopez. We should be able to finish the job.

  • iosanguinaregiallerosso

Pjanics celebration is why I do not want a new stadium. The anticipation of the fans to go crazy when he finally gets there is AMAZINGLY spine tingling !

Great game. Bojan deserved that goal, all that dribbling and the finish was kind of off. Oh well.

    Grande capitano !
    Forza Roma !
Pushing up the table for a top 3 finish me likie ;)

  • FrankieASR

I think it's time for a new stadium. Time for Roma to have there own house. But I hope they incorporate a track while keeping fans closer to the pitch.

As you said La Curva Sud must stay as alive as ever. Pjanic's great goal and him running to the track watching Stadio Olymico explode got to me. I never want to lose that.

  • James Robert

uh-oh  links don't work anymore, mega upload being shut down and sued seems to have other sites pissing in their pants scared...

I'm sure this has been posted already, but it's Zampa. GRANDE ROMA!

at one point in the high lights, I saw all of Rosi/Borini/Pjanic/Greco and Lamela celebrating and I thought of one thing: THE FUTURE

  • Michael

To those who say erikson is a romanista, where did this idea come from and is it actually true?

  • FrankieASR

Very true. He has never hid his love and a huge Totti fan. Then again who isn't unless you fuck goats?

loved the game, scoreline, scorers, coach, every Roma player, possesion statistics etc etc etc

however, I hope most do you know that it only takes this blog 2-3 defeats and some weak subs from LE to turn it around and aks for his head yea?

not pessimistic (how can one be after such a trashing and beautiful display), but reminder: it was CESENA, not Juve/Milan or even Genoa or Palermo. so savour it, enjoy it, the road is still long but we'll get there and these moments make it all worthwhile

plus I love our position in the table, we still have the Catania game in hand. oh and we did it without Burdisso/DDR/Osvaldo, 3 important missing pieces on every line (defense, mid and attack), congrats LE

ps: ALEANDRO ROSI, what confidence can do with a man

  • gio

is anyone really surprised we did it without Osvaldo? every time we have played without him we look far better.

  • Tony Page

I'll be hoping for an Inter-Lazio draw.  It will be difficult, but lets hope for the other table leaders to drop points as well.

  • Francesco

Is it possible that they just get no points? Or negative maybe?

  • Stefan15

Hail Luis Enrique. Soo many were bitching at the start of the season about him. Roma is just playing beatiful football at the moment. Totti and Lamela are amazing together. I only wish Roma would pick up a quality defender like van der wiel and the romanista midfielder from Ajax, Ericksen

  • Due to work, I missed the game. I am delighted by the scoreline, the stats (75% possession...whah??) and especially the main man, the god of rome, Totti.

Please, help a Chicago fan watch this game. Post a link to the replay.
    Grazie, merci, thanks. Goodnight.

  • Saint Benattore!

  • gio

i am trying to get tickets for the Roma Napoli in April and am prdering from the US.

does anyone have any recommended websites to buy from.

also, though i want to sit in the curva, i have some worries about my baby daughter there. i was thinking distinti sud, but since this may be the one and only time i get to see er capitano play, and i really want to SEE him play, so i am thinking that tribuna tevere would offer a better view.

any thoughts or recommendations are welcome and many thanks in advance.

    gio

  • ASR_Martino

No recomm on getting tickets, but I do recommend sitting in the seats that actually closest to the pitch (edge of the curva maybe). If you are going to see Il Capitano play, you want to be able to actually see him a close as possible... so If he goes to take a corner, you can count his beads-of-sweat with binos.

  • Serie A Appearances

1- Paolo Maldini (Defender)- 647 games
    2- Gianluca Pagliuca (GK) - 592 games
    3- Dino ZOff (GK) - 570 games
    4- Pietro Vierchwood (Defender) - 562 games
5- Javier Zanetti (Defender)- 553 games
6- Roberto Mancini (Forward)- 541 games
    7- Silvio Piola (Striker) - 537 games
    8- Enrico Albertosi (GK) - 532 games
    9- Gianni Rivera (Midfielder) - 527 games
10- Giueseppe Bergomi (Defender)-  519 games

    14th Francesco Totti - 486 games

Totti will easily break into the top 10 before he retires and what will be amazing is that he will be the only playmaker to make these many games - it's not easy to play that position and literally carry your team on your shoulder all your life. The list mainly consists of GK's and Defenders, so this in itself speaks volumes.

    GRAZIE TOTTI !!

  • masonio

Rivera was a playmaker, too. But I agree anyway.

  • Aeneas

    Link to a replay?

    Anything Zampafied?

  • OlandeseRomano

Just add Carlo Zampa on facebook. after each game he posts his comments under the section "gol zampati" (zampafied goals). There's a link to mediaset's homepage with his comments.

  • FrankieASR

That was delightful. The most fun I've had all week.

What better way for Totti to rewrite history just seconds into the game. Scoring a brace and didn't need much time to etch yet another place in history. He never seizes to amaze me.

Roma thrash Cesena. I'm sure it's not convincing to some unless they beat Juve, Milan, or Inter with such impressive form. They are winning the games they are supposed to, and starting even do it with a certain sesnse of ease. I think Chris posted it best, the line up looks like it should be for a Coppa Italia Roma vs Frosinone game.

I see the top table teams struggling through some of these "easy" games, even if they are getting the points. The remainder of Catania is becoming very key and 2 games in the near future that will really test the teams character will be Juve this week and Inter which is fast approaching. I can't discount these easy games and the team is really starting to gel at the right moment.

Pjanic celebrating under the Curva Sud striking the ball with his right and recovering his own rebound to finish it with his left. LE when the score is 5-1 was still coaching directing Viviani. Juan is smiling. Roma was relentless in attack and hogged possesion. This season can be more successful then any of us imagined. Maybe even ... I won't dare say

    Forza Magica

  • ForzaTotti

Lamela is incredible. And to think he is only 19 years old...Wow...just WOW.

  • By the way, Anyone notice how Totti always scores Braces, I mean it's either 2 or no. And I'm loving the choice these days! Forza Totti!

  • Totti needs a post dedicated to him.

  • DavidPeradze
  • Chaseandlacey

    what stat is that?

  • Most goals scored by a player at one club in Serie A

  • Hondo

That's ridicolous! Totti is a LIVING LEGEND!

  • ForzaTotti

    Where he belongs... #1

  • ForzaTotti

Only 8 points back of first place and 5 points back of a CL place. We can definitely do it!! Let's go ROMA!!!!

  • With a game in hand !
