Ago: Fifteen Years On.

By: chris | May 30th, 2009

Ago

My feeling in circumstances such as these has always been the less said the better.

But for those who don’t know, 25 years ago to the day, May 30th 1984, Roma lost on penalties in the European Cup (Champions League) final in the Stadio Olimpico to Liverpool. A scarring loss for any club – some might even term it a tragedy. Unfortunately the real tragedy came 10 years later when, on May 30th 1994, Agostino Di Bartolomei, Roma’s captain that day at the Olimpico, ended his own life at 39 years of age3with a single bullet to the heart. For many generations, he is their Totti – a comparison which should allow the younger tifosi to firmly grasp the significance of his passing. The reasoning is largely attributed to clinical depression and finances, but no one can ignore the significance of the date he chose and some still blame Roma for ushering him out of town the summer following that final and their failure to offer him a job in the organization upon his retirement as a player.

A true Roman legend whose day came far too soon. Requiescat in pace, Ago.

Dempsey on Roma, interesting thought but I just don’t know how that would work. Granted I have not seen him play a ton, but from what i have seen he does have pace.

I agree with you fital except I think we should sell Pizarro instead of Perrotta. Then have that midfield slot Perrotta/Guberti (whichever is more on form) paired up with Aqui.

you want a team with one of the worst defences in the league to play a 4-3-3? i prefer a 4-4-2 like against milan, at least until we find our identity again

    2.dagostino $4m-6m
3.rosina for perota or tadei.he can even be used as trequatista. $5m-9m
4.sneider or vandervart cause madrid have a habit of selling players for cheap just after they bought them for millions of dollars. $7m for sure.

Your sums are wrong. 4-6 mill for Agostino. Udinese will demand at least 15-20 mill. Rosina will cost 10 mill. Sneijder will cost way more than 7 mill. More like 18-20 mill. AGree with everything else though.

@jacob.i agree on normall circumstances they would cost a lot,but torino are relegated and they cant affored him in serie b.madrid are looking to reshape/change the whole team when the new manager comes so they will sell to whoever comes first in order to buy others.

agreed. subotic @ 5 mil? no chance. maybe upfront with another 5 mill later on.

dempsey is a decent player (and trust me i root for him) but i’m still not totally convinced. fuck the penguins…

hangeland is valued @ 20 mill by fulham. they’d probably sell for around 15

This is my ideal no big names really
    Rosina
    Aquafresca
    Okaka (return)
    Guberti
    Danielle Dessena
    Esposito
    Andreolli (return)
    Motta (full)
    Lugano

I would like Panucci to renew but it depends on his attitude. If Tonetto is sold which if we are starp for cash should happen, call back Antunes if we can’t get Mathieu.
I highly doubt Roma would buy back Dagostino, but with Aquilani hopefully over his problems with this surgery we would not need him.
If Spal do leave first choice would be Ancelotti but with he most likely going Chelsea then it probably would be Mazzari.( I still believe in Spalletti and it seems he wants to stay but they have to guarantee him a scudetto challenging team which means cash, only have to wait and see what happens)
Out of that list we might only have to spend $30 mill max.(Don’t know if we have that)

Lugano and Guberti are free and with Genoa now getting Aquafresca we might be only able to get him on loan.
Rosina $15mil the most but with Torino going down should be way less.
    Esposito $5 mil
    Dessena $8 mil

    that is just $28 mil.

Its funny, i know that there is nothing else to talk about but more than 90% of those names wont be purchased. Certainly not with the price tags that Mohamed has said.

I dont expect much to be done our offense. Maybe a Okaka call back and perhaps if Trez comes to us at for reasonable transfer fee and is realy willing to take a paycut.

Our midfield needs backup. Pizza will most likely be the first to go, thats if any mid leaves at all. Thats where Guberti comes in. I havent seen the kid play much but i have seen him play the on the right wing and as an attacking right mid.

I think we need Pizza for at least half a season more, even if its only to slowly inject Guberti into the squad. He is not gonna come in as a starter, especialy if Spal is still coach.

I like that Totti is thinking big for next year (aiming for a 27 goal season) – just getting the feeling the clouds are going to clear next year with the injuries – and Totti/Menez/Aquilani are going to have big years. Hopefully…

    http://goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2009/06/01/1297927/francesco-totti-reflects-on-romas-season-ponders-spalletti

Some confidence building wins at the end of the season – should carry over some. DDR needs to get back on his game and stop the ref baiting / I’ll never win with Inter in the league / red card for yapping too much / etc routine.

Rest up boys, the season is only a few months away…

You guys are aware at the lowest, Trez is gonna cost about 12-15mil, though I think Juve would hold out for 15-20.

The Inter game has had some brilliant goals.. all except Cambiasso’s which was a scrap.. But I don’t know how Ibra’s winner was allowed to stand. He shoved the Atalanta player out of the way to make space for himself.

No freakin’ way does Trez get sold for 15. Not that I want him, but if Juve gets 12-15 for him then Real Madrid is the team that bought him. That would be retarded.

carlo is not coming to roma..from espn
“I am certainly not staying in Italy. But it is not certain that I am going to London for sure.” However when he was told “good luck” in English, he replied: “This I won’t understand until I arrive.”

Can somebody explain how we get Stefano Guberti for free?

I’m not complaining, just unsure of how this is happening, especially to roma, haha.

and he showed his love for roma on many ocasions.

we the fans complain about our players going to other clubs and becoming succesfull like amelia and dagostino et al.i just hope the same would not happen with curci and cerci and andreoli.

Spaletti is likely to stay – he has the interest “if Rosella wants him,” and may even be willing to work within a ‘Sensi budget’ (playing D’Alessandro was a hint), but the fact that Carletto left milan without a Chelsea gig means one thing only … he probably has a meetinig with Rosella.

personally i think Spal is the better coach for many reasons, and (if Rosella is sane, which she is not) we will keep Spaletti; if i am not surprised if we see Ancellotti in red annd yellow. there really is no other good coachh for Roma who is not already taken.

health is #1 prority followed by defense

Subotic is the best suggestion i have heard; we could keep Panucci (though he deserves to go), buy Motta and maybe sell Diamoutene, though i am kind of liking the guy.

sell Pizarroo and Taddei, D’Augustino is good but a bit too expensive i think.

if we get anyone up front i am still sticking with Crespo, though i am nont sure we need him.

    Okaka cannot score.

I think I read that Roma were interested in Cruz (from Inter). True, he is old, but if someone can help him find his way, I think he could be a real asset. I hate to let him go, but I think Mourinho is set on a younger squad. Too bad, he totally saved Inter’s bacon last season.
