A Potpourri of Useless Flapdoodle

By: chris | July 6th, 2007

judas.jpgThe GHD will continue right after this post. Sorry for the delay, rough week.

(Figo’s getting ready to hand that jersey over to Chivu)

Chivugate:

“Either I go to Inter or I stay at Roma,” confirmed Chivu.

“We spoke to Roma director of sport Daniele Prade’ and now the Giallorossi know that Cristian doesn’t intend to join Barcelona or Real Madrid,” agent Giovanni Becali stated

‘If Chivu leaves as free agent next year, his future club could pay him a seven to eight million euro salary as they would not need to pay a transfer fee,’ Becali added.

Get the fuck out. Get the fuck out now, Chivu.

It’s reached the point that the last person I want to see in a Roma uniform next year is Chivu, and that’s sad. I don’t know what will happen at this point, and I don’t care. Just get it over with and move on. If he’s going to pull an Emerson and bring in a doctor’s note to training then ship him off to Inter then bring in Ahmed Barusso to mark him in the Super Cup with explicit instructions to take him out. Red card encouraged.

And if he does spend next year with Roma without signing an extension, with the club knowing full well he will sign with Inter, I vote they bench him and don’t allow him to see a minute of pitch time. It wouldn’t be prudent football-wise, but I’m not sure I can stomach the thought of seeing him in a Roma kit ever again. Hopefully the other players will take some action and refuse to speak to him for the season. This club just can’t win with player’s demands.

You have heard me say the last thing positive thing about Christian Chivu I will ever say. For anyone who has been defending Chivu, your argument is quashed. He’s effectively killed any leverage with Inter. They can now offer half-worth and there’s not a damn thing Roma can do about it.

* – At this point, Roma and Massimo Cellini of Cagliari need to get together and formulate a case against Massimo Moratti due to his approaches without a club’s consent. It’s a dream but a heavy punishment would be nice. There will be little parity left and the gap between the rich and everybody else will continually grow into a massive chasm if this continues.

Roman Nuggets:

I) Holy Christmas.

Atta boy!

II) Finally, something clear cut in the mercato: Francesco Modesto has a contract agreement with Roma, but Roma doesn’t have any agreement with Reggina. At least we know something that’s actually going on. I don’t know at this point. Reggina seems to be asking for quite a bit for Modesto. I also read that Reggina wants co-ownership but Roma is looking for a full sale? Obviously bullshit. Roma would co-own Spalletti if they could.

III) In case you missed it, Barusso is official, with Simone Palermo going on loan to Rimini in exchange. Quality move both ways.

If you hadn’t noticed, I’m drooling over a defensive midfield including Daniele De Rossi and Barusso at some point this season. I love ball-winning savages with booming shots. Michael Essien is high on my list of favorite playing styles. Hopefully Barusso recreates a fraction of his success. And yes, I fully expect him at some point to return the favor of that broken leg last year. He’s a beast.

IV) Looks like Ricardo Faty is headed on loan to Bayer Leverkusen for a couple years. I’m fine with the loan – it’s real crowded in Roma’s central midfield – but two years? Hopefully they have a clause to recall him after one year.

V) Officially cross Giandomenico Mesto off those wishlists, he’s up north being Pietro Leonardi’s bitch. I understand alot has to do with playing time and true desire, but to be reportedly thisclose to deals with Milan, Juventus, Roma and to a degree Liverpool, and then sign with Udinese? Ouch. They aren’t that bad, but they did only finish 7 points above relegation last year.

The Flapdoodle:

I) The shot of Paolo Di Canio after Aquilani’s goal makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

That’s the only time you will ever hear me say Di Canio makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Unless he obtains a Third World venereal disease from a transsexual rodeo clown, of course.

II) Blue-man group and Tiesto on the same stage. Enough said. (Any other fans of Tiesto in the house will enjoy this little mini concert with Marco Borsato in front of the Erasmus bridge in Rotterdam.)

True story: Went to see the Blue Man Group in Boston with one of my buddies when I was home from college over X-Mas break one year. We had “poncho seats” and when they started rolling out the toilet paper or whatever it was over our heads, I looked over and noticed he was somehow, unbelievably asleep. I woke him up and he just said he was ridiculously exhausted. And by exhausted I mean he had smoked massive amounts of marijuana. Still, who falls asleep during BMG? Even more, how do you fall asleep during BMG unless you have a heart rate of 7?

For the record, I didn’t inhale.

III) Oops. MAJOR oops.

That could be actors or completely pre-planned/fabricated, but it didn’t stop me from laughing my ass off. The look on that woman’s face when she’s asked “Where?” is absolutely priceless.

IV) Zlatan’s Corner

It looks like Zlatan and Christian Wilhelmsson are up to no good. Like they’re about to buy a dime bag and they’re looking around for campus police. Either that or Wilhelmsson is about to pull that doo rag down over his face and rob that store. It must be tough to be currently on a roster in the French second division.

zlatan

Quote of the Week:

To Malmö FF coach Michael Andersson during practice:
“Do you think that you are my mother?”

The best part is this come from a guy who used to see him around Malmo all the time when he was relatively unknown outside of Sweden. He said he was one of the shyest guys off the field. Should we scratch those reality show plans?

Nahhhhh.

Zlatan is Zuperman. You know how everybody does stuff in training they wouldn’t dare do in games? Well Zlatan is out of his mind.

You’ll thank me later for singing ‘Zuper Zuper Zuperman’ all day.

V) Transformers is nice, but I will camp out for days to get tickets to the opening showing of a Dinosaucers movie.

And if you don’t think I’m watching episode clips on Youtube over and over and over today, you’re crazy.

VI) For Mike, because I need anything Swedish in my life.

VII) Searching ‘Chivu’ in google images brings up this sexy Romanian model. Is it me or does she look like she is the lesbian offspring of Angelina Jolie and Fiona Apple? The pouty lips and defined cheekbones of Jolie with Apple’s dark eyes and that “I could cut off your penis at any moment” look on her face. Maybe I’m wrong.

Don’t bother searching for the other pictures, it’s not worth it. The pictures from her agencies website look like they were taken with one of those Kodak one time use cameras. You know, the one’s you use when you don’t want any evidence of the pictures you’re about to take. Which was probably the photographer’s idea in this case.

VIII) Commercial of the week. I had actually never seen this one, but I was drawn to its ridiculousness. Especially the fact that David Beckham broke the world vertical jump record by like 300%, on a surfboard no less. You can tell it’s fake by Beckham taking a shot with his left at the end.

Sure, sure, blame Google. And I’m totally planning to go to the Euros (For the football, mind you, not the stalking) — when you and Muddia get done with your casting fiesta, email away and we can plan our attack on Bob.

Uh huh. I’m fully willing to admit I’ll stalk Zlatan, I tend to believe you may follow suit. And I’ll be in the area anyway, so I should be there (and by area, I mean Europe).

Btw, can we get a definite ruling? Is it Luis-sh Figo or Lui-sh Figo?

    Judges?

Chivu is pretty much busting all our balls now with his crap (sorry Martha and other members of the opposite sex)! If Inter-NAZI-onale are the only ones willing to pay his contract (because suddenly Chivu is the best defender in the world according to the lovely Becali brothers) then i say sell him. I know it’s absolute crap, but it’d be cutting our losses. We all know that he wouldn’t and couldn’t play in front of Curva Sud next year if he stayed anyway. Let’s jusst toss him away and take the offer Inter gave us! insytead of him leaving next year after not playing an entire season with us. Trust me, im all for him not playing if he stays, and getting so out of shape that he cant play the European Cup should Romania qualify! But right now I just want him out of my life so we can focus on the future. It’s kind of like that drunken uncle at family parties. You absolutely hate what he does, but you still put him in a taxa… You all know him! Mine’s name is Erik!

Well, who’s up for a non-Chivu related probably-BS summer rumor? I know Chris will like this one.

Btw, I know this is crazy but I couldn’t think of anybody else. Is that player you think might be coming to Roma but you’re afraid of jinxing Malouda?

Nope, not at all. Esp considering his 20-25m pricetag.

I saw that and discounted it as baseless media speculation. Then I read something else which made me think again. Rosina’s contract runs out after two years and reportedly extension talks aren’t very close. Torino might be learning from the Chivu situation and consider selling him now at peak value as opposed to missing out on significant cash late. Also, they could get Vucinic who is still a stellar talent and would fit in better up there than at Roma. I’m not sure it’s all that far-fetched anymore.

I really don’t want to give up Vucinic. I like him a lot, at the most I would be ok with him going out on loan. But yea, what’s supposedly going on is that Udinese wants to extend Rosina’s contract and put in like a 20m buyout clause, whereas Rosinaldo would like to stay one more year at Torino to once again show his skills, then go on to a bigger club. Buyout clause: 6-7m. So Torino might get a little panicky and sell him off now. But I don’t think they’d accept a deal without Vucinic there at least on a co-ownership, and Roma only owns one half. If they sell him off they’ll regret it eventually.

Normally I’d correct you on your use of Udinese there but we all know Pietro Leonardi likes to consider players currently wearing other uniforms as his property. So maybe you’re right.

I think if they can get Vucinic in at least a one year loan Torino will think about it long and hard, esp if there’s a clause to buy out Vuci. I agree regarding Vuci, I’ve loved him since the Lecce days, but he is being wasted at Roma as long at Luciano refuses to move from his 4-2-3-1. And we can’t really blame him, it works. Though I would like to see more of a 3-2-3-2 every now and again.

I still can’t believe Real baulked at Chivu’s demands. Real Madrid. Oh God that’s hilarious.

Oh yeah, Barca opted for Milito ahead of Chivu and opened negotiations with Zaragoza a couple of days ago.

Hard to believe that Roma are really after Rosina after selling 1/2 of Gallopa to Siena for 1 million. Several weeks ago, Torino publically declared their love for Gallopa. He would have been a intergral piece in us getting Rosina from Torino so if our management are really after Rosina and they just let Gallopa go, they are even dumber than I thought.

Well, it might be media fabrication, don’t take everything as fact. I think we should spend our money on Cicinho, Modesto, and a very good, young lefty a’ la Marica. Essentially our only problem last year was that players were too exhausted from the CL to put in any effort in “easy” Serie A games. That is why I don’t think we need a big name, simply young prospects/solid players to give the starters a breather, and maybe even put some pressure on said starting position with impressive displays. During the Manchester-Roma game, a couple starters got injured right before the game and Perrotta was disqualified sending the team into disarray, but during the first leg Roma handled the supposedly much superior team with an impressive ease since all starters were present… we need good backups that’s all.

100% agree that depth needs to be a main focus, as Totti touched on it this week. I also wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Cici, Modesto/Backup LB (still think Roma wants to go cheaper) but Roma needs a wing, Marica can play wing, but isn’t really ideal. The guy in my mind fits the bill perfectly. I also agree it’s going to come from youth, rather than a big name – but it still may be somewhat pricey. It’s prudent to work someone into the system somewhat slowly, because it’s not an easy system to pick up right away. I agree depth is necessary, it’s unfortunate they haven’t been able to get anyone on a free. Outside of Pit that is.

Linda, I forgot to mention – Congratulations on being turned down by Chivu. You must be very happy.

chris g., any chance its quaresma?? i wish buddy, imagine that guy on the right with totti and mancini, forget about it!!

guys im happy with us signing juan, barusso, esposito. im sure we will sign a couple more. the offseason transfers are going well so far as long as we get at least 2 more very good players.

as for the man who i promised not to talk about until he leaves, i continue to do so. i dont like talking about punk bitches. mr. c wants inter, give him to inter, inter now has the leverage but thats okay, better we get something now than not getting anything at all at the end of next year and having a cancer on our team all season. what was inter offering, 12-13 million?? now with the leverage that inter has i would take money and walter samuel. its never bad to have to many defenders. juan, samuel, mexes , ferrari, tonneto, modesto, pannuci, looks good to me brothers. then lets take the money, get the players we need and let mr.c and company eat our dust next year. roma next year will rule, no doubt.

defenders: mexes, juan, pannuci, modesto, samuel, ferrari, tonetto 7 good and reliable defenders!!!!

midfield: de rossi, perotta, aquilani, pizarro, barusso, esposito, taddei, mancini + another signing

strikers: totti, vucnic, montella + another signing

guys, this is the team to beat. screw mr. c, if he stays with roma he will be nothing but a cancer.

    espostio and hopefully rosina, welcome!!!

vlad, i agree with you, no doubt, this team had great spirit last year and was a great team, if we had depth then we would have been untouchable. dont forget in that game with manchester, we would have probably still have lost but not 7-1. thats because, no pizarro, perrotta, taddei and no substitutes for those guys. vucnic played on the right, not even close man!! i love vucnic dont get me wrong but on the right??

we have a great team and a great coach!!

ok i can bring you my version of dream team for nexy year
Doni and someone on backup (curci to go ONLY ON LOAN!)
defence – cicinho mex juan modesto – backup – panucci casetti ferari tonetto
def.midfield de rossi and battle for death between aqua – chiliano backup – baruso
attacking midfield -mancini taddei perrota esposito semioli rosina on bench and struggling hard. to get brazils out of starting spot.
And attack – beautiful capitano and very talanted vucinic on back up.
So it must be 23 players for next season.
About money when we will sell this shit we will get 16-18 millions and we also have around 4 millions.
So – cici – 6 halfmodesto 2.5 semioli 6 or half semioli 3 rosinaldo ( i love him) 10-12 or half rosinaldo – 6 it is 6+2.5 + 3 + 12 23.5 so don’t forget about briggi and nonda we will sell alongside with kouffour and alvarez.
This is the best roma can do in my opinion on this market
