The Great Hair Debate: Gennaro Gattuso v Lucho Gonzalez
By: chris | June 29th, 20072. Gennaro Gattuso CM Milan
v
15. Luis ‘Lucho’ Gonzalez CM FC Porto
Gattuso:
I was very very tempted to make him a one seed due to just one exceedingly awesome picture, but the man has had a career of quality hair styling. The long dark manes fit him to the tee, but it’s one moment in history for Rino….
Another in the Mexes category of great hair comebacks….
The above picture is the sole reason why Gattuso is a 2 seed. With the overwhelmingly large torso, the peering eyes and the John Stockton short shorts, he just screams “I am Rino, hear me roar.” He doesn’t belong on the pitch, he belongs on the cover of one of those cheesy grocery store romance novels.
Gonzo:
This is a somewhat surprise inclusion, but he was one of the first names that popped into my head when I started with the contest. I was looking forward to watching him play against CSKA London in the CL (love his game) until I noticed he was sporting a rat tail. And it was bad, not Rodrigo Palacio bad, but still bad. Then I remembered his uefa picture, and a star was born. By the way, anybody else notice how half the profile pics on uefa.com have guys who look like they’re about 25 pounds overweight? Do they just stalk these guys and get their official pics when they get off the plane returning from vacation? As for his hair, I have no idea what the hell he was going for, but it’s a shaved mullet supreme.
I did my best to find a pic of the rat tail and the above was the best I could do. It’s like finding UFO pics: they’re few and far between and the ones that are there are grainy and questionable in legitimacy. But trust me, it’s there.
The GHD will continue on Monday.

I vote for Ivan the Terrible, Campione Del Mondo. Has he ever considered pro-wrestling?

Forever and ever Rino… although I’m slightly biased as he’s my favourite player in the world.

Rino gets my vote. Just for that last picture, when he desperately needed a haircut and never got one.

I’m going to be very girly here, but there’s something about Rino’s facial hair that frequently makes him look like some sort of evil count, or something. Gonzo’s got none of that.

Gattuso for the abundance of hair!

Gattuso all the way…but you have done very little to showcase the versatility of Rino’s various stylings from mullets to crew cuts the man has done it all…I feel somewhat last manly after that comment…

I feel somewhat less manly for reading it….
Thank you

Rino’s definitely got the most intimidating facial hair around. Just look at the transformation from one picture to the next. I wouldn’t even need to see that glorious mane to know that the man’s follicly blessed.

I have to go with Lucho on this one, because…well, I have a relationship to him that’s akin to what Spalletti has with Pizarro/Faubert/Perrotta/etcetera.
The middle picture of Gattuso SO looks like British chef Marco Pierre-White. Outrageously random comment, I know.

Ringhio gets my vote…
of course purely based on Italian chauvinism

Lucho for the upset. I don’t find Rino’s hair to be that abnormal or cool…

I have to cast a vote for one of my favourite Argentinean players, who manages to stand out on the national team even when surrounded by fellow Argies with really terrible hair.

If I saw a cheesy paperback romance novel with Gattuso on the front, I’d buy it and then read it proudly, instead of hiding the embarrassing covers like I normally do.
Umm, I didn’t meant to admit that.

Gotta be Rino. Tell me he couldn’t play free safety in the NFL?
