GHD Final 4: Philippe Mexes v Gennaro Gattuso
By: chris | July 30th, 20072. Philippe Mexes CB AS Roma
v
2. Gennaro Gattuso CM Milan
Mexes:
I’ve tried to make the Final Four more of a greatest hits from the earlier rounds of the debate, because some people were exhausting all their fantastic photos. Mexes is nowhere near this category, along with a certain other Romanista who shall remain nameless. Sort of. His sheer volume of awesome photos is truly a testament to his demi-god status amongst hair stylists across the globe. To say the man is a gift is an understatement.

Class and diversity to the nth degree. Bravo. That last one is just phenomenal.
Gattuso:
Rino’s well has begun to run dry while looking for hair pics on the net, but that doesn’t mean his CV is any less impressive. The first pic is still one of my favorites of all-time, just for it’s over-the-top ridiculousness and total believability combined. If there is ever a sequel to He-Man, there is no one else who should get the part, provided he just dyes it blond. Which might be sacrilegious, but I think everyone would concur he is the right, and the only, choice.
I’m still not sure whether Rino is scarier with or without the beard. For some reason he scares me in that Rangers pic.

The choices are getting painful now, but I could never pick Italian over French.

Not even with dressing?
Pfft. I don’t buy it for a second.

Sorry Philou, but a Totti v Mexes final will just be an overload of pretty-boyishness. I vote for Gattuso to get some contrast and drama in the finals.

I love Rino because he plays for my team but I love Philippe for the great player and person that he is and if we are gonna talk about hair…he has the best!
Trust me I’ve touched it

Hey, great debate, sorry for Rino, can only see his skull nowadays so I totally have to go with Philippe! He loves doing crazy things with his hair from when he was young up to now!
Forza Philippe Mexes

“Trust me I’ve touched it”
Claudia, do not tease us so. You can’t just toss in a line like that and leave us hanging. Do tell! Do tell!
(And Chris: You are correct. Salad dressing is the only place in the universe where Italian trumps French.)

This is the day I’ve been dreading since the start of the Great Hair Debate…
Oh, and Chris, if you had really wanted to ensure a Mexes/Totti final, you should have posted some new Philou pics of him sporting the half braids descending into flowing locks look.

Chris,
Where in the US do you live? I’m in New York and haven’t really stumbled into any real Roma fans yet. I’d just like to say thank you for maintaining a blog about the best topic possible. Where did you get most of your info from? I check several Italian newspapers daily, but based on the comprehensiveness of the info, it seems like you use a variety of sources.

Tim, First I’ll say thanks for your thanks. And I was born and bred in Boston and I’m on Cape Cod for the next few weeks - but I’ll be moving out of the US soon to wherever the powers-that-be in my life tell me to. A lot of my friends from the city were born in the boot, so it wasn’t difficult to sort of network the Giallorossi fandom. I’ll give you a quick rundown of the websites I use, but I’ll do a detailed list in a post sometime in the next couple days. It’d be good for a lot of people.
http://www.romanews.eu - probably the best news out there for Roma, they have some stalkerazzi working for them
http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com - a roundup of many Italian calcio sites, typically a day late tho
http://www.ilromanista.com - Roma’s unofficial newspaper
http://www.ilmessaggero.it - Italian newspaper
http://www.calciomercato.com - decent, don’t use it often though
Typically any English sites will get their news a little later. If you can’t read Italian I believe there are some decent translation programs or the like on the net, though I don’t know how accurate. Those are the ones off the top of my head, but I’ll put up a full list soon.

To Chris…I have been reading your blog at least two or three months. But this is the first time I post my comment. Well,I think you’ve done a great job, and I just wanna thank you for such an interesting and very informative blog.
Excuse me for posting nothing about the hair, I did vote, though.
I remember that someone has mentioned of constructing an English site for Roma, I think it’s a brilliant idea, well do you consider it?

Ah something I read made me think you were from Boston, I guess nobody’s perfect! I’ve visited most of those sites, just not regularly. Do you ever check corrieredellosport.it? The format isn’t the greatest.
