Death to soccer takes place every time a scottish team takes the field.

I stumbled upon footage that convinced me that Gomez is the only forward worth going after out of the top 3 available. I am skeptical that Huntelaar couldn’t fit into our rhythmic system and Amauri wasn’t consistent enough. I used to be worried that Gomez would be too one-dimensional until I stumbled upon this

Versatility and consistency are just two more examples of why he won’t be playing for us next season.

Yep, when the english teams will do it it will be a genius smart game. No surprises there. Also agree on the scottish teams. Cant say tht I watch SPL, but they seriously clam up in UCL– and usually r good at it. May be a practical approach for them though. I doubt if Roma will be first in line for Gomez. Madrid may be in the hunt, maybe some other teams frm serie a too? Havent heard too much frm Italy.

Franco Di Bartolomei would be 53 today. Il Romanista has this video on their page paying respect to the great man.

Re Soros … this is getting interesting.
Rosella stayed in Roma apparently because of a small health issue, some say because Roma is involved in Capello’s tax swindle.

We need to wait and see, maybe all these are just mere speculations

If soros does takover, I hope there wont be a revolution in the squad. Spaletti has been workin on a system ever since he got the bench and we are just now seeing the outcome of it.

Maybe she just stayed at home to have dealings with Soros… awfully convenient that he’d be in town and Rosella stays at home due to “health” issues!

now even the Telegraph (UK) is reporting the possible take over

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/04/08/ufnroma108.xml

Mind you they are referring to the same articles we all read

Thotobald posted this interesting comment on Xtratime:
    ==============
I came over something very interesting when I looked into Hungarian history in AS Roma. We’ve had 6 hungarian managers; before, during and after the WWII.

    Lászlo Barr 1932–1933
    Lajos Kovács 1933–1934
    Alfréd Schaffer 1939–1942
    Géza Kertész 1942–1943
    Imre Senkey 1947–1948
    György Sarosi 1956

Alfréd Schaffer won our first Scudetto. Is it completely unthinkable that Soros has been Romanista since those days?

he didnt play at the weekend so I suppose that is why he is not included in possible starting line ups. Personally I think he will start

He had a bruise from the MU game at Roma

I would play Taddei on the left and Cicinho on the right. Mancini needs to take a seat because if he’s gonna walk around all game he’d be 5th in my pecking order. Hell even Esposito would contribute more.

I think Spalletti has too much faith in Mancini but it has paid off earlier in big games (Lyon, Real Madrid) so if he plays well I’ll swallow my tongue.. But all signs point to us playing with 10 men all game because he has been a non-factor aside from that run in late Jan to mid-Feb.

They did say Soros will be discussing the purchase of the club at the same night as the Man Utd game. Personally I’d wait for the game to end because the Sensis could get so much more if we do pull the impossible and go through..

Let’s hope Jesus pulls on a Roma jersey and plays at LW for us for a day.. I’m pretty sure God could get a hat-trick at least.

Aaah.. Really? Smart move by the Sensis… Or by Soros.. I doubt the value of the club will drop after a CL elimination, especially with 30 mn coming in because of this run.

200 mn will not cut it though.. Soros will need to drop 250 mn at the minimum to get the club (unless the Sensis are really desperate).

Manchester United hoping for Ferdinand fitness boost
    By Pete Oliver

MANCHESTER, England, April 8 (Reuters) – Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand could be fit for the Champions League quarter-final, second leg against AS Roma at Old Trafford, manager Alex Ferguson said on Tuesday.

Ferdinand was expected to miss Wednesday’s match, with United defending a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford, after injuring his left foot in Sunday’s 2-2 Premier League draw at Middlesbrough.

But Ferguson, who is already without injured Serbia central defender Nemanja Vidic, will wait on the results of a fitness test on Wednesday before making a decision.

“I am hoping he’ll be playing tomorrow,” Ferguson told a news conference.

“The scan was clear, which was good news. That was the most important thing and therefore we hope that we can get him fit tomorrow.

“We report tomorrow at 11 o’clock and he will have to do something in the morning. We hope that’s the case.”
Premier League leaders United kept five successive clean sheets before the draw at Middlesbrough and know that limiting Roma to no more than one goal will take them into a second successive Champions League semi-final.

    FERDINAND BOOST
Having Ferdinand available would boost their prospects but Ferguson has potential back-up in Mikael Silvestre and Gary Neville.

Both have recovered from long-term injuries and offer alternatives to Wes Brown, John O’Shea and Gerard Pique in the centre of defence and at right-back.

“Both will be involved,” Ferguson added. “One may start depending on Rio Ferdinand. It’s a possibility but I’m hopeful that both will get part of a game tomorrow.

“The good thing about both of them is that they have got good experience. That helps me in terms of making a decision.”

Roma arrive in Manchester having lost twice at Old Trafford in the past 12 months — a 7-1 defeat in last year’s quarter-final and a 1-0 loss in this season’s group stage.

Ferguson hopes his side again can strike early but refuses to accept that the outcome, and a last-four clash against Barcelona or Schalke 04, is a foregone conclusion.

“That is our big hope, that we can get the first goal. That will take the pressure off us and give a bigger problem to Roma,” he said.

“We have some leeway but we are not taking anything for granted and therefore we look on this match as the most important thing of the season for us.

“We have got one foot in the semi-final. To get two feet in, the best way is to approach the game in a proper fashion and go and win it.”

What worries me is that all this news about a take over has come in light of the economic crisis around the world. Maybe it’s because the Sensi’s are in debt, but I’m afraid that these foreign investors who lost a lot of money (I assume) in the market would want Roma to throw their debt on us or something of the sort.

    No clue.

Why would he want to buy Roma??

A businessman buys Roma to make money, not for any other reason.

Don’t be so pessimistic. He’s got plenty of money. How much more can Roma get him? Everyone had these same worries about Liverpool and Man Utd and their owners have gotten them the Torreses and Rooneys of the world.

If the Sensis sell to Soros then it must mean they are convinced he has the interests of the club at heart. His willingness to invest in a stadium shows that he has a longer term project than quick financial gains.

This guy can outspend the Glazers, Hicks, Gillette, Lerner, Galliani, Morratti, the Agnellis, Calderon and Laporta combined.. twice over.. (I’m exaggerating of course.. or maybe.. 8.8 billion is a lot but he won’t spend anywhere near that much on Roma).

He can get us the Gomezes, Torreses and Buffons of the world. The key though is that Roma can finally smash the salary caps with some backing. We’ve lost many champions because of the salary cap.. Cassano, Samuel, the gypsy, etc… Imagine we had the Cassano of old and Samuel (un-injured) this season. We would be phenomenal.

I know Soros has plenty but I dont think he would just smash the salary cap, maybe introduce a higher one… and I dont think he would just spend on Roma mindlessly. I dont think that is his character and frankly speaking that is not a kind of owner I’d want.

If an American owner will succeed at Roma … next up is La Viola

I’m not convinced because from what I have read about him, he is a cunning and shrewd businessman. He has no interest in football from what I know.

Now rich people don’t get rich by blowing millions on hobbies.

Why in the world would a rich old man want to buy a football club?

    Something doesn’t add up.

Plus old Soros doesn’t exactly have a glowing reference.

The money is appealing, but when things look too good to be true, they usually are.
