No Money, No Problems.

The internet is a horrifying commentary on the future of society (I’m here, so that’s problem number one); the type of medium where all encompassed within can now be dissected into one of two groups: like or dislike. A method which seemingly moves us forward but can also be seen in two words: pollice verso.
How’d that work out?
That’s just not how life works, and certainly does not apply to the mores of football unless you happen to be owned by an Arab sheikh (inching closer by the day…). That doesn’t mean the system doesn’t hold value, it simply means it needs to be expanded upon to a more complex structure of varying degrees. Take, for instance, that I like my family as well as Reese’s peanut butter cups. Now I may like both, but I’m only putting my life on the line for one – the Reese’s (it’s a curse, man).
And voila, not all likes are created equal. We’ll have to do something about that.

2010/11 Schedule Announcement
By: chris |
Late, as ever. I’d be terrible with birth control pills. Updating as we go along.
The opener seems to call for the tried and true “oh, they scheduled another friendly” but it smells of a 1-1.
That’s right – it’s not yet August and I’m predicting actual game scores. Write that one down.
And would someone teach Lega Calcio to count.
You know, as this slowly trickles out….this is a damn good schedule, and it’s been years since opposing fans weren’t giving sympathetic internet hugs (which are in fact very suspect). And yes, I realize I’m just begging for Juve at Week 7.
IL CALENDARIO DELLA ROMA
1° GIORNATA (29 agosto): Roma-Cesena
2° GIORNATA (12 settembre): Cagliari-Roma
3° GIORNATA (19 settembre): Roma-Bologna
4° GIORNATA (22 settembre): Brescia-Roma
5° GIORNATA (26 settembre): Roma-Inter
6° GIORNATA (3 ottobre): Napoli-Roma
7° GIORNATA (17 ottobre): Roma-Genoa
8° GIORNATA (24 ottobre): Parma-Roma
9° GIORNATA (31 ottobre): Roma-Lecce
10° GIORNATA (7 novembre): Lazio-Roma
11° GIORNATA (10 novembre): Roma-Fiorentina
12° GIORNATA (14 novembre): Juventus-Roma
13° GIORNATA (21 novembre): Roma-Udinese
14° GIORNATA (28 novembre): Palermo-Roma
15° GIORNATA (5 dicembre): Chievo-Roma
16° GIORNATA (21 dicembre): Roma-Bari
17° GIORNATA (19 dicembre): Milan-Roma
18° GIORNATA (6 gennaio): Roma-Catania
19° GIORNATA (9 gennaio): Sampdoria-Roma
November looks like it’ll be a little tight with some Champions League thrown in the middle, but otherwise a very acceptable schedule.
The only small gripe is that I was hoping to get Sampdoria while they’re flashing their squad depth in the CL groups (provided, of course). Ahem…
(And reverse the home/away for the second half.)
Why So Sadd? The Liveblogs Commence.

There is a game of some importance today as one Associazione Sportiva Roma is playing a football match against a Qatari side. Worlds are colliding, ladies and gentlemen. Worlds.
Time: 2045 CET; starting 30-45 pregame.

Oh, and comment inside the liveblog this time – different setup.
VotD: Adriano’s First Roman Reel
By: chris |Unfortunately I think the ultimate highlight is Adriano going toe to toe with Loria in the beginning stages of a beard-off. But just you wait until DDR arrives…
On the subject of Adriano, Blogistuta and I also have some new digs, to be rapidly filled with wondrous things shortly. And we need your help.
Adrian Pit. Hero.
By: chris |
The Pits
It’s now or never for that headline.
Now it is.
Adrian has joined up with the fellers to do absolutely nothing of note for about six months, look almost passable as a professional footballers against Cesena and then strike the dagger with a beautiful cross to setup the winning goal before heading on loan to Empoli. Or something.
But seriously – the season can now begin. Adrian Pit (Pronounced ‘Piz’) is in the house.
Burdisso
Would you two quit fucking around? Roma: should’ve taken care of this in January. Inter: you valued Burdisso at ‘possibly rescind his contract’ a year ago – stop acting like he suddenly became 10m times the player.
Now roll up the sleeves, roll down the skirts, pull up some chairs, sit around the table, leave the barbs at the door and get the fuck on with it. Simone Loria is scoring goals in friendlies, for Francesco’s sake. He’s a concussion away from looking 07/08 half-decent again and convincing everyone he might be worth a second chance, and we just can’t have that. Read the rest of this entry »
10/11 Kits Released – Hide The Children.
By: chris |You’ll notice the bra underwire snaking underneath the general bosom area, an amenity required by Adriano’s handlers in contract negotiations. You’ll also notice the general hideousness of the third shirt – fresh in a time machine from 1993 – which used to be the only decent shirt, now is the worst shirt, and the use of golden gold running up the sides of the away for no apparent reason.
Decent Kappa kits are now firmly in the “nostalgia” bin.

Also, two things:
i. The commenting system will hopefully be fixed next week. Apologies again.
ii. Genuinely cannot wait to get back down to business. See you later todayish, tomorrowish.
D-Day: AS Roma Now Owned By Newco Roma. (Mostly Oldco Roma)
By: chris |
The day has come and passed, with fainting women and Lazio flags, and we finally have our answer:
How do they come up with this shit?
If I’m reading this correctly – pardon my severe allergy to legalese…achoo – the Sensi’s shares will now be comprised of the same deal of 51% Italpetroli and 49% Unicredit, with a three person board running the shows: Rosella, a Unicredit rep and a third, mutually decided upon party, heavily rumored to be me. Maybe not. The goal is to then sell the club on to someone with more money than Jebus.
However, the club is now effectively owned by Unicredit. Which makes Roma – technically, at least – the wealthiest club in the world, I think. So suck on that for a bit.
In more important news, the rumored new kits are flippin’ ridiculous. You’re seriously going to put Adriano in horizontal stripes?

This decision making astounds me. Fortunately Serie A looks to be suffering across the board this year.
